@@roberthamilton1152 The cooler has an antifreeze line that cools or heats the fluid. In the winter this will allow the fluid to heat up to optimal temp faster. When the fluid is really cold it is thicker which affects how the trans shifts.
Diesel camper, I am a happy customer of your tunes BTW! I put the mishimoto in my 06 and it is incredible. I generally run 140ish at normal operating temp not towing and I just got done moving across the country pulling a packed 16’ cargo trailer and my trans temps stayed in the 170’s and 180’s. I have the mishimoto radiator too and my truck never went into the 200’s. Their stuffs spendy but I’m a happy customer so far
It’s not really a transmission cooler, that is up front in front of the radiator, it’s called a torque converter cooler/ heater, it’s a common failed system and can ruin a transmission. I bypassed mine with hose and AN fittings directly to transmission in and out. Also bought a cooler bypass kit for the up front cooler so fluid circulation is constant. There is also a ball check valve in one of the factory lines that restricts flow.
@@jordanmercredi3740 I would say no. Once it breaks, the damage is done, and you will blow through the trans pump and seals in the valve body. You likely won't be able to shift, soon after this occurs. The transmission fluid will emulsify with the coolant and reek havoc inside the trans. A trans temp gauge is only worth while when your transmission is working.
Hi Paul, mine failed and cross contaminated the trans with coolant and the cooling system with trans fluid. Ended up wrecking the clutches in my trans. Been running without it for almost a year and no issues but have not done any heavy towing.
I never replaced it, it is hard to get to, not going to lie. I bypassed it and haven't looked back. Also flipped the thermostat around in the air cooler up front to keep fluid cooling at all times. Haven't had any issues with the trans overheating.
Hey what is the wire that you have pulled out from your transmission harness??? Have exact truck n transmission please let me know asap, if it’s what I’m thinking it is I need to do what you have done!! lol please let me know when you can thank you 🙏
It's a tap for the torque converter clutch that serves two functions. First, it's a ground path for a lockup switch and second it's a ground path for a relay inline with my exhaust brake. It keeps the brake from activating if the TCC isn't being commanded by the ECM.
A lot of Cummins owners do this because this cooler is a heat exchanger that often fails and sends coolant I to the trans and trans fluid into the radiator. That's exactly what happened here. Some guys bypass permanently, mine will be a temporary fix until the replacement comes in.
I would not trust an ebay part for something like this. It took me 2 days to get this done and it's not 100% fixed yet. The one thing I had going for me was it failed close to home . If one of these fails on a trip, you're in for a multi thousand dollar service.
It's not a "cooler" it's a "heat exchanger " mines broke at the moment and leaking trans fluid bad... and that's best case scenario. Alot of times they break internally and put coolant into the trans, ruining it b4 you even know there's a problem.
