$5,999 - REVIEW - NEW Polygon Mt. Bromo Electric Mountain Bike - SIX-Bar Suspension

A six-bar suspension linkage is the highlight of Polygon's first-ever full-suspension e-mountain bike dubbed the Mt. Bromo. Coming in two different models (Mt Bromo N7 for $4,399 or N8 for $5,999), the bike gets 160mm of front and rear travel with 29-inch wheels front and rear.
#eMTB #ebike #emountainbike
We investigate the bike's suspension and see how it rides in this review video. At 55 pounds with pedals, the Mt Bromo is heavy and its 504wh battery drained quickly when the Shimano EP8 motor was in Boost mode, as it had to spin the hefty-but-grippy Schwalbe Magic Mary tires.

Looks good, and is probably a close second for best value eMTB behind the Marin Alpine Trail E2 (the Marin's extra $300 includes probably $500 worth of component upgrades, and it has a 600kWh battery). Honestly, for me the most exciting thing is that I hope the new geometry (longer reach, slacker HTA, steeper STA) is an indicator of what to expect when they finally update the Siskiu N, because the current Siskiu N leaves a lot to be desired compared to both this and the new Siskiu T.
@dekahendry7433

There is rumour going around in indonesia mtb community. The siskiu N9 will get an update (bottle water, hta etc) and also new dh9 with this ifs platform
@gpearce11
@gpearce11 3 года назад
@@dekahendry7433 I've been hoping so, because the updated frame for the Sisiku T, with its drastically improved geometry and ever welcome water bottle, made it one of the best value trail bikes on the market (in either spec). The Siskiu N9 (with its Fox Performance suspension and Shimano XT groupset for less than many competitors offer Marzocchi and Shimano SLX), would easily fill the same place in the enduro category, if only the geometry wasn't three years out of date.
@dekahendry7433
@dekahendry7433 3 года назад
@@gpearce11 like mike levi from pinkbike said "geometry is free" Once n9 update the geo and fit water bottle, it'll be best value enduro bike on the market.

I hope the rear triangle doesn’t have bushing near the axle. I have bushings there on my n7 and they wore out completely within 3-4 months of riding. I also have a review of the T8 and my N7 on my channel, if you wanna check it out.
@frankthetankricard
@frankthetankricard 3 года назад
I don't think this bike's going to break records for maintenance time. There are more complicated, harder to work on designs all around. The 16 bearings I counted seems a little excessive but not the end of the world. It's like double what a typical full suspension frame uses. I wouldn't worry about maintenance in terms of difficulty, but part cost is going to be double. But you dished out the money for an ebike, what's a couple dozen bearings? :) I actually like that they put bearings on the rear shock mount instead of bushings for one. It's an interesting design to say the least.
@HollyBoni
@HollyBoni 3 года назад
For example if a good ol' horst link frame with a trunnion mount shock uses 2 bearings per side at the chainstay and the seatstay pivot, it'll have 14 bearings in total. And that's a pretty darn common design. I don't understand why people are freaking out (okay that's what the comment section is for), 2-4-6 extra bearings is nothing in the grand scheme of things, and changing them out isn't exactly rocket science.

Over here in Europe you see way more Schwalbes than Maxxis tires. Unexpectedly you see them often on cheaper bikes and everyday dad Mountainbikes and lots of touring and city bikes. Not quite sure I get why they’d make the main pivot move forward as it compresses, as a rearward axle path helps the wheel not get hung up on roots, rock ledges, etc….seems very opposite of accepted suspension actuation goals

How does this compare with the Marin E2 which received a glowing review from Vital? It seems to me like the Bromo has better spec for less money, and you could buy a spare 504WH battery with the change. Which would you say is better for self-shuttling up downhill and 'enduro' tracks? I note that while the E2 has 10mm less travel on the back, it has a very slack head tube angle (63 deg).
@vitalmtb
@vitalmtb 3 года назад
we would pick the marin for its simplicity and performance in all situations. Shimano SLX on marin is more than capable and the fork is a performance elite vs the performance GRIP on the bromo, so the price/vs spec is massively different. when the marin launched, it was 5999 also. unfortunately they raised it to 6299 a few months ago.
@SUPERCOOLZZ
@SUPERCOOLZZ 3 года назад
@@vitalmtb Thanks, I probably should have said that in Australia the Bromo N8 sells for $7,899, while the E2 is $8,899. For the US market the price gap is much smaller. Would this price difference ($1,000 AUD / $770 USD) change your opinion?

29 inch diameter wheels are no good for off roading and stupid hard to control and you most likely know that. 27.5 are better and safer so don't be fooled. Using a 26 in rim with a 2.6 tire on the back of a 27.5 frame is the best combo using disc brakes. The front should be a 27.5 with 2.2 or 2.3 tire for best safety on the off road trails.

"Active suspension" I love how mtb press love to use tech terms and buzzwords and get it totally fucking wrong. How many automotive engineers tell you guys to stop drinking the KY jelly?
@rolux4853
@rolux4853 3 года назад
What does active suspension even mean? How is active supposed to feel? If I compare it to the automotive world you mentioned, I would guess that the suspension adjusts to the trail itself, which of course will not be the case on this bike.
@iffy_too6465
@iffy_too6465 3 года назад
@@rolux4853 active suspension adjusts its damping according to the driving/riding conditions. they can have computer controlled servos or hydraulics attached to the compression/rebound valving adjusters etc. for real time adjustment. BMW did this with motorbikes, There have been a bunch of differetn ways to do this and apparently its making a comeback to F1 racing
@aromaj8
@aromaj8 3 года назад
Active suspension refers to its propensity to cycle through the travel from rider or trail input. This comes from older suspension designs which could just feel like a block of wood underneath you when you were braking or pedaling.
