So right about Contra. It was easily the most common game I would see at friends houses, or for rent, or for sale used. I remember when you could only get $15 at a Pawnshop when selling a complete NES with both controllers and zapper, plus like 20 games. This was in 2003 or so. It makes me wanna throw up. The hundreds of dollars of NES stuff I either gave away or sold for literally pennies on the dollar.
I know how you feel. In 2005 I sold my huge videogames collection for peanuts to pump it into my x-ray tech career. I said I'll get them later in life. Now everything is so expensive that I have spent $1,000s already for a fraction of my monster collection. What hurts the most is the magazines that I sold for a quarter each!😭 Oh and here comes the best part in 2016 I lost my career in the medical field because the government mistook me for somebody with my same name and I ended up homeless for a year!😡
I could never pick between Kickmaster and Shatterhand, they're both actually good western style platformers with plenty of quality, and they have mechanics unique to each game. They have awesome hit detection, satisfying level design(Kickmaster is a little flatter due to the focus on combat but still has fun platforming), I always recommend those games for ppl wanting straight up action platformers, along with stuff like Power Blade and Shadow of the Ninja, etc.
I enjoy how youre willing to budget your money based on gameplay, over rarity. It shows that you actually appreciate their playing value, over rarity. Cause i aint never gonna pay 25,000 bucks for rare crap, when i can buy a good game like FF3 for 600 bucks. It makes me appreciate your work as much as you appreciate the experience of gameplay. Its very real. Not all youtubers have banging bucks to spend, so you need to mitigate your loves over a collection, or a bunch of subscribers. Im happy you share your passion with us, and im glad to see you making money by sharing with us what we all collectively love. Which is playing games that make us forget about reality, and take us to another world. This is why im subcribed and always watch your work.

1:37 - "Why didn't they call it 'Super Contra'?" I heard it may have had to do with the Iran-Contra scandal. However, that wrapped up in March 1987, and the ORIGINAL Contra got its NES port in February 1988, so it is weird that they wouldn't be sensitive about it the first time (though would it just be called "C"?) and yet be concerned in 1990 when Super C was released. Ah, well, I think "Super C" sounds cool, even if it shares the name with a brand of vitamins.
I bought my copies of vice: project doom, contra force and power blade 2 brand new for 20 buck a piece back in December of 1994 out of a clearance bin.
I remember getting a few nes games around that time myself at Saturday Matinee. My parents never bought us more than one game at a time, so they must have been super cheap.
Gotta say, your expression at the end about owning a cartridge over playing a rom game on emulator. I get that. But my wallot vs. My nostalgia, wallot wins everytime. Id rather play, than pay.
There is no such $800 NES games that resellers and scalpers but there are $800 games that arcade machines that’s been going on since 1980 they start from $3,000 but these NES you can hack them and add them for free no point in buying the physical cartridges anymore
If you ever need a short sharp reality check on the passage of time and the entropy inherent in the cosmos... replay Contra for the first time in 30 odd years! I used to BREEZE through that game (Speadshot or NOT) Now I struggle even WITH the K-code :[
I ised to play it at my dads friends house with his son Brian. It frustrated the hell out of me, but i always put it in first, because its the only copy ive ever seen in person. But tbh, one hell of a crappy game, that sucks to control. Next please.

Been looking diligently for a clean copy of vice project doom. I did find a mint copy of shatterhand at a local store for 79, and snatched that up. I have karnov, contra, super c...I paid a little more but got a mint copy of kickmaster recently at the same local store. I went down to the austin game over convention last month and couldn't find vice project doom. I did get a bunch of other good stuff though. I don't have contra force (that same local store has 2 I believe), and I don't have power blade 2. (Same store has a copy listed at way more than 850.....) I grabbed taxan GI Joe most recently and feel it could have been on this list for sure.
As someone who played Contra Force on emulation... yeaaah that's not worth the money. I'd totally pay 30 bucks for a new Shatterhand though- loved that game when I was a kid!
Vice Project Doom, that's the sweet spot. I can see 30 more bucks for Shatterhand, but after that it's hello FPGA. Hey, wait a minute... how much is the original Power Blade?
@@BrettDulaney-hf8yd Nah, I was there, I am probably older than you. I owned a NES and sold it because I had a lot more fun with the Sega Master System and eventually Genesis when it was released. Nintendo is overrated.
