I have had 2 of these mowers over the years and the first thing I did on both was cut the plastic grass guard off at the 4th rib out from the mower to go through tighter places.
You could probably get up to $700 by me in the Chicago area, but the key is that it is has a shine. Whenever I have sold a tractor, it never mattered how well it cut, but rather how "new" it looked. Kind of blows my mind.
I automatically wash every piece I work on before I start. This not only makes it more enjoyable to work on, but exposes potential issues that might have been covered or disguised with dirt and grime (and chicken manure!). 😉
I really don’t make much out of them because I fix it like I’m keeping it and I go thru everything 😢and I never have any problems with getting rid off them even at a higher price 😊
Got a forty six inch Husqvarna tractor which starts running slow if you run it fast, that is at high speed. So i just give the pedal less gas and finish my yard just fine.
I have a Husqvarna yth20k46 mower with that same transmission and that what it does. Moves fine then when it gets hot won't move till it cools down then it just quit moving all together
I mowed with it for well over an hour and could not get it act up. I explained that to the person that bought it. His plans were to clean it up even more and sell for more money. I’m hoping my belt theory was correct.
At 35:32 …….. so your labor is free. I’ll ask do you eat? Do you drink? Where do you sleep? I expect you could’ve doubled your money. The only time I work for free is for family sorry if I’m selling something I want to make money or I don’t sell it and put it to work until I can. Never sell in a rush!
I had one of these with a kohler command 25 hp and 54 deck. Baught it new at lowes for $2,400 Within one year.. under 20 hours had these issuses: They are absolute JUNK! They are not lawn garden tractors as advertised the bucket option as well as plow voids the warranty. Wasnt aware tjis until after the 90 day period the trans is weak and they leak. The frames are notorious for breaking off where the trans bolts to it. The engines are so out of balance they shake the bolts out constantly causing vacume leaks and oul leaks. The regulars dont last. I sat it out to the curb. Its someone's elses problem now
$50. It is an awesome deal. One, it's a garden tractor. It is not a lawn tractor. That's huge in itself. Big deck, tuff torq transaxle, AG tires are all a plus!! Not the average big box store tractor. But unfortunately, I see it has the Kohler courage. Terrible engine!
At 17:03 I’ll ask…… how much does a fresh gallon of gas cost in your area? Informational surprise! “Gas” has a very short life span in a gas can or fuel tank! Yes it will run in large motors…. sometimes poorly but with small motors always replace it if you can!!! Even if it’s just the next season!
He is simply a novice making one rookie mistake after another. Don't waste your time watching this video. There are so many other good professional.Small engine mechanics who can teach you much faster and explain what they are doing and why; Something this youtuber was really unable to do. And simply ask me and I'll direct you to the better channels...
When I diag an engine the first thing I do is spray 2-stroke fuel into the intake to see if it’ll fire. If it does that already usually eliminates air, compression, timing and spark, leaving only the fuel system if it doesn’t keep running on fuel in the tank. That diag process sidesteps everything you did, a lot faster and certainly much easier. Since 90% of small engine starting issues are fuel related, that diag confirms the usual more often than not. 🔧👍
@@JefferyAshmore Good question! So I can use the same spray bottle for 2 or 4-stroke engines and so it’ll provide a little lubrication whether I spray into the intake or directly into the cylinder via the spark plug hole. Especially if I want to continue spraying to keep the engine running, so it won’t “wash” a cylinder like straight gas or a volatile.
if it aint broke, dont fix it! 50 bucks isnt a risk dude. the deck was worth 200 or more, tires about the same. running motor.... 3-400. no risk at 50 bucks.
The deck is most definitely not worth 200 bucks maybe brand new or completely restored but nobody is gonna pay 200 for 15 year old deck and those tires are probably worth around 200 brand new not used with leaks
Awesome deal for $50! Well done! You know these mowers have parking brakes, right? This eliminates having to hold the brake while you crank it. Oh, and I agree that you did sell it too cheap.
Yes I did! That’s why I pushed the brake pedal down to start it. However I discovered you could also set the parking brake to accomplish the same thing. Thanks for watching !
I have the The YTH2042 and it cuts my grass real nice. I later purchased a complete burned up unit for 100 dollars from a neighbor whose courage engine caught fire. Only damage was a coil wire and plastic engine covers that were melted through the engine block cooling fins. Everything else was in mint shape. Now I have a complete parts mower for all parts needed when necessary. If I had to replace my machine piece by piece, it would be 10 times more than I paid for the parts machine. You paid $50 dollars for a left front wheel and rim and got a free garden tractor...SCORE!!! Great video, and not a bad gamble that's for sure. See you in the next one.
I have the exact lawnmower, probably the same year also, accept mine is black & says Craftsman & mine has a 25 HP Briggs, but other than that the exact same mower. Good find glad you made out on this one & I hope your theory about the belt slipping is right.
I almost decided to hang on to it for a backup if my zero turn ever had a problem! But it’s hard for me to pass up a good profit lol! Thanks for watching !
Would you please identify the pliers used to pry off fuel lines? I suspect it’s the same as those used to remove plastic push pins on interior car panels.
@@LaidOffGarage Thanks, Levi! I watch a lot of videos on my iPad, which crashes when I try to read the Descriptions. I’ll be ordering those today! I’m juggling two occupations, as a learning small engine mechanic and as a home baker for 14 years selling two days a week at my roadstand. Add to that keeping up with 20+ active RU-vid channels I watch every week and I’ve had to be selective about which videos I watch (5-7 hours most days) and which ones get put in the holding pattern for when I have more time. I’ll keep supporting you as best I can. 🔧👍 By my calculation I’ve logged over 5K hours on RU-vid in the almost 3 years I’ve been teaching myself small engine work.
Is it possible the original owner, had the free wheel lever pulled? It puts the tractor's transaxle in a neutral state. Then you can push it easy. It should be located on the back of the tractor!
It was pulled out when I bought it but I assumed it was out from him pushing it in the barn and then loading it on my trailer. But you could be right !
That was a great find for you. Ive always likes the way those things look. The hood reminds you of the old japanese cartoon Voltron. Great work geting it going.
You had to know you were going to have to clean the carburetor and possibly rebuild it. You got it for fifty bucks, you stole it. For fifty bucks I wouldn’t even sell it. Sweet deal !
I bet it was the seat switch that you connected up. Mine did the same thing I thought it was more, but after watching your video, and you saying the seat switch was disconnected, (💡) same issue with mine. Seat switch 👍👍👍👍👍
Nice save! I have had slipping issues with the transmissions. Usually happens when they get HOT. In fact, I'm changing my trans now. I have no signs of a leak, but the oil in the trans was low, black and thin. Guess I pushed it just a bit to much!
Nicely done. Several years ago I was doing the same thing. Easy fix, clean'em up, and sell for a profit. It has become harder to find the deals of the Covid days, but I keep looking.
Time for some Amsoil 20 W 50 Z rod and a new oil filter fill up the rear axle and pray for the best. I’m sure Amsoil has something that suitable a little marbles mystery oil in the fuel with every fill up or just when it starts to run like crap.
Yisser. You got lucky. Several years ago I bought a Murray 46" GT with a 20 HP Briggs for $50. Motor and body were in great shape and the tires were okay. The seller said it ran when stopped but need a starter. It looked like a steal deal. Replaced the battery, starter, carb, plugs, fuel tank, fuel line, rebuilt the deck, all idlers, belts, blades, amp meter, drive pulley on the transaxle, and various springs. That $50 investment kicked my butt. After almost $1,000 in parts I was finally able to cut grass. But that was 13 years ago and it still runs. I've replaced the consumables a couple of times since then but it's been a good machine. It's a 1998 or 99 model and tuff as nails.
Your profit didnt include an actual labor amount, your time is worth money. You also didnt include the battery charger (though I would have just fixed the cord). You did sell it for a reasonable price for a used machine. The local shop will eventually get it and make some money off of it. For me, I don't flip mowers because the flippers have gotten so shady to where I refuse to be associated with them. However, I do end up going behind them and fixing all the stuff they put lipstick on when they sold it.
I said In video that your profits would be much lower if you had a shop do the repairs. The fact I did it means there is no labor expense. That’d be like putting brakes on your own car and adding a made up labor charge to the price of parts.
You should have tested spark and fuel first. Every mechanic knows about the parking brake on these. Surprisingly, you didnt. Not a great teaching tool.
Well nobody has 50 dollars to just throw away 50 is alot of dollars idc who you are so yeah I would be worried about 50 dollars 10 dollars know but anything more than 20 yes
If you have a small business. You have to see it as an investment. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.but you never win, if you don't take a chance.
Those AYP built machines were pretty good. Much better than MTD. I've got a 2008 Craftsman very similar to this one with over 2600 hours on it. Still going.
to show that try to do these type of things to riding lawnmowers. Here are two clues - if there is a wire going to the seat ( big clue ) and then there is a wire going to hte carb - you have to be sitting on the seat to start - safeby switch - fuel cutoff. If there is wire to seat but no wire to carb - probably still safty switch - but cuts spark.
$50! You could sell one of the wheels for that. Great deal. Tufftorq K46 gets a bad reputation because mower manufacturers install it in machines which are too heavy or overpowered. Blame the mower makers not Tufftorq!
How the hell do you guys find this things so cheap. I've been looking for riding mower for the past 2 months. Some guy wanted 1500 dollars for a 20 year mower. I guess Europe became insanely expensive.
