Can a proper JDM fixed back seat make you drive faster? Today we're going to find out!
We imported some expensive seats from Japan, then compared them with some we found on Facebook Marketplace, with a racing expert also weighing in to give their opinion.
Along the way, one car will modified with loads of cash, and the other one will be modified with parts found from dumpster diving, recyclers, second hand parts or the cheapest parts we can find.

These 206 seats are actually really comfy and give a good amount of support. For 100bucks a pair a complete steal. Had them in a nice red 206cc rc edition. Still miss that thing, but is really not the car to have when you have a family...

@@kermitahnenerbe3722 Yeah, those back seats in a 206cc would only fit a small child, without a seat - that however would be illegal in my home country of germany, which makes them basically pointless except for tossing a backpack on them... The folding roof never had any issues, which always makes me giggle when I see much more expensive cars that have issues with them. The 2l 16V engine was fun to rev, only really coming to live above 3000rpm. However the (original) really low profile wheels were a noisy uncomfortable pain to drive, so I stuck to the cheap alloys I originally got for winters... It really is funny to me that in australia a standard 206 is a rare care to have, while they are still very common over here. And even good ones are rather cheap.

BRIDE still gonna be far better for go-fasty stuff. For me I found the 180 seat didn't have quite enough side support, have to "tuck the elbow".

I did the same as Marty on my first car, I managed to snag a whole wrecked shell of a ST165 GT-Four, and I transplanted the interior of that, into my base celica, and even wired up the adjustable bolsters and lumbar support in them. I loved those seats, some of the most comfortable, most grippiest seats I've ever had the pleasure of sinking my arse into.

Just wondering what the stock seats of each car weighed…. Did Marty lose any weight or gain? And how much weight was saved on the Swift?

I reckon you boys hit the nail on the head. Safety is the paramount factor, of course, but budget is what's going to keep you grounded. Everyone wants a caged out race car with 5-points, but some of us are just Puge Bros and can't afford it.

For something streetable, Trash makes more sense here. if it was track only, sure, get the race seats. The other downside of the race seats is if you're going on long trip on potentially bumpy roads, which seat do you want under you?

you might not know this but Peugeot 206 also has race winning pedigree not as a tack car but as a rally car its had 24 wins an 65 podiums in the WRC wining the constructor championship between 2000 an 2002 and how many has the Suzuki won in the WRC oh wait it won nothing

My buddy has a 2004 Sti and his driver seat was really bad but his passenger seat was like new (he’s a single guy) so he ordered seats from a JDM Sti and because they are RHD their passenger seat replaced his driver seat and was like new . So now he has two almost new seats in his 2004 Sti .

Interesting how the years have changed Marty and Moog. Ages ago when Marty bought the Polo GTI Blue Euro Turd it wasn't viewed very highly because it didn't "feel" exciting. Seems like now that car with its factory bolstered seats, massive (comparatively here) turbocharged engine, excellent factory brakes and aftermarket parts availability would seem like a mad bargain. The change in perspective to every car can be cool if you mod it mentality shown here is awesome. Thinking about that made me realise it'd be pretty cool to see a Blue Euro Turd return as a surprise challenger. They can be picked up in Australia for half of what the Swift cost and give both nuggets a run for their money.

FYI Suzuki Swift Sport do come with Mega Option package with original Recaro seat, it is original Recaro with airbags, you can get it at secondhand market.

Ive got factory installed SR3 Recaros in my DC2 Integra Type R, the same seats Moog put in the 180SX. The extra support and bolstering is exceptional and incredibly useful during the few times Ive taken it to the track. They've got a bit more bolstering than the Peugeot seats and are also a lot lighter. However unless I was building a dedicated track only car, I dont think I could justify the price on those brides, not to mention I honestly have always thought that Bride seats and that stitching look *really* ugly and tacky. So something more middle ground is probably where Id go.

The RC seats qre very snug. My favourites are from a 405 gtx. Comfortable but very supportive. Its interesting that they didnt buy a gti 180. But it wouldnt have been much of a competition then as the 180 would have been significantly faster

ghi 180 would crush the swift... even the lower spec gti would kill the swift... superior chassis period. using the absolute base model not really a fair fight, but reckon the dynamics might just see the Peugeot beat the swift... would be sweet irony after its been bagged constantly

Moog Knows that Peugeot also has a race pedigree? If I am not mistaken this style Peugeot was raced in WRC for many years. So if anything, race pedigree is equal to that of the Suzuki. 😎

I think Moog needs to look up Peugeot race pedigree..... Not the biggest fan of French cars to work on but damn some of them are quick and Peugeot especially have an epic record in motorsports. Love both the cars and series lads too work.

Those Bride seats are lovely... but you do not need seats that are 80% of the value of your car when its a road driven trackable car. Also comfort needs to be considered in this scenario, the Bride seats are designed with lightness and support in mind first, and comfort would certainly be an afterthought, that's not to say they'll be particularly uncomfortable, but if you're dailying the car, you aren't going to need all that rigidness and support and they could get uncomfortable after long periods of time. Trash wins for sure in that scenario, get some decent sport oriented OEM seats if they exist for your car, if not get something decent enough from a reputable source, stay clear of fakes. Awesome video lads.

Noticed a couple of things that seem to have been glossed over: 1. The weight comparison between seats did not include the heavy rails and seatbelt anchors for the Bride seats - okay so they would have still been lighter but the results wouldn't be as exaggerated. 2. Not sure about how the rules go in NSW - but I'd have thought you can't legally remove factory seats that have airbags in them and replace with non-airbag seats and be able to continue to use the car on the road (in a roadworthy / legal capacity)? Track would be fine. Would a better choice of seat for the same money not have been a Recaro Sportster CS with Airbag? If that seat would have been used for comparison I think we'd find the seats weight comparison much more in line with each other.

If you are building a track car you only need ONE seat... Hands down those Bride (Br1de?) seats look and are nice, but... the cost? The bang for buck? Also, we didn't see the weight of either of the seats that were removed, are the GTi seats lighter than the OG seats in Marty's car?

The Peugbro won't be winning, but if it was it getting the cash end of the series rather than the opposite, the difference would be a lot bigger than it will turn out to be this way

I mean if you don't wanna throw out that money for Brides you can always go Recaro, OMP, Sparco etc. for roughly half the price. Still expensive, but much less daunting and just as certified. The Brides just give you more style and street cred. On the other hand for that money you could also get Recaro Podiums which are even lighter and also look ridiculously good.

I bought a Bride Stradia III seat back in 2021 for my 350z, but thanks to FedEx, and prolly someones plan to steal it, I didn't get it until after I lost my Z after a road trip across the US. Still have it because I can't get direct fit rails for my Speed 3, and none of the people I've told about it want to pay $2200 for it, even though its unused and I still have all the paperwork and hardware with it

I know it was kind of mentioned in the video, and I imagine 90% of the viewers know to do this, but please please please check your torque specs when installing seats. It means all the difference in how safe your seats are, regardless if you choose a Bride or simply swapping them out with nicer OEM ones.

If the cars never going on the road, fixed back seat 100% of the time so you can run a harness. Dont need to go crazy and get $5k ones, can get a good fixed back seat for under $1k in Australia. But if the car is going to be staying on the road and occasional track use, trash wins 100% of the time.

Something that should be mentioned is that safety seats expire. So you may find high quality seats on the second hand market, but always check the expiry. Even if it doesn't matter to you in terms of the level of racing, it could be a point for bargaining and save some extra dollars.

I really want to see widebody episode. Where Moog just orders a whole kit online, fits it and spends rest of the time going fishing, biking, and hiking. Meanwhile Marty spends 2 weeks messing around with expanding foam, fiberglass and body filler to create 206 Rally replica for example :)

Are there Renault twingo rs cars in Australia? That would have been a better comparison but not a real cash for trash. But would have been a nice comparison between almost the same cars but the one from Japan en the other from France, got a twingo RS myself and they are nice and reliable

Not hating, series is good. But I would have liked to see Marty buy a used/expired FIA approved seat, which you can get for pretty cheap. It's kinda an apples and oranges comparison. At the same time, maybe that's point. EDIT: I think trash, but even if you're doing a full track spec car you can still get used FIA approved seats that are expired for reasonable money. Expired seats shouldn't matter if you're only doing track days or hillclimbs etc. It'll only matter if you're doing proper circuit racing. Just have to do you due dilligence to make sure you're buying anything that's been crashed or damaged. Moog was pushed into that direction by using HANS device, which you proper harnesses for.

I feel like Donut's HiLow and this cahs vs trash series have differed to the point were these cars are now 2 different spec levels. 1 almost ametuer race ready and the other a little daily that ypu can rag around the track once a month. Donut's first series was much closer in spec of car even though the prices were just as drastically varied

So I recall Moog choosing lower tier coilovers to keep them about par in terms of function but keeping with the cash vs. trash theme. This seems a bit different context. Why then did he just not get the most expensive coilovers or a good but more affordable seat? The two seem at odds.

I think Moog made an investment for the future. He can reuse those seats on other cars with new rails and the seats will most likely not go bad over time.
