After a few years of searching I finally got a ninja ratmat, the most expensive mousepad on the planet. Ratmats are premium metal mousepads made to order in Japan and incredibly scarce. The one I have is the "Tou" version, their cheapest offering at 62000 Yen and the most controlled hard surface I've tried
Ninja Ratmat website with tons of info on the pads ninja-ratmat.jp/ they do NOT ship internationally. Huge thanks to ‪@jaymz8222‬ for selling me his copy, recommend watching his review while I continue testing the pad. Very few english reviews posted

SHOCK. Sorry about the backing being a thin sheet, I was completely unaware of that. I just placed it beside my keyboard and against my monitor. I agree with you. It was the most control I’ve felt on a hard surface. If I ever get another model, I’ll let you know. There’s only a handful of people I know that have rat mats. I’d love to see a bigger size. The price seems very high, and it is. But they definitely have interesting Japanese technology and crazy levels of QC. I’ve seen the numbers where they measure out every pads friction, and the machines they have look crazy. Anyone can find their videos on YT if they’d like to learn more. I translated many Japanese reviews, but the way they speak when describing things, sometimes I didn’t quite understand everything that was said. But it’s interesting to get their perspective of their own pads. Hope to see more from them in the future. Thanks for reviewing it.

Id love to hear your thoughts on it after getting a more stable backing for it, and more time to experiment with it. If you ever decide to make a full review. It took me 3 days to get used to the surface coming off of faster pads. Hopefully ratmat will work with us internationally in the near future .

I actually do that I have a super thin coating on it and it is by far the best thing ever. So smooth but initial friction is super low which i like. Tracking is a breath. Tack shooter like CS arent that great since the control is a little lackluster but apex and such are just incredible good to play.

Yeah its important to keep in mind this launched in 2019 so the hardpad market was way different, also it is supposed to come with a backing but mine is a second hand unit. Still a crazy price+impossible to recommend for a number of reasons

i think it would me more resonable price if u would buy it from them in japan, importing it overthe world and paying for the rarity aspect is the main reason why it cost as much. Hardpads usually are expensive

They did it was just different. I guess they used a thin rubber sheet to go under the pad. In Japan people lay mats and beds down on the floor and shit. It was my fault there was no backing. Was likely included and I may have thrown it out or tossed it to the side out of excitement to try the pad, also may have confused it for shipping packaging. The pad came packed to the max when I originally got it.

By the way, they've done custom sizes before (someone I know has a 500x400mm one) but those were even more limited and not available to the public. Also, Ninja Ratmat is just a guy that owns a metal factory that does this as a side gig, and it's pretty much just a passion project as there's nothing to really be gained given how low the demand is. I mentioned it before, but if you want to try them in Japan, you have to book an appointment with them in advance. If/When I go there, trying all of their pads will probably be high priority for me since I have their metal skates and find them to be quite interesting - l'll probably be posting a review of them sometime soon since I've had them for a few months now.

@Katze822228 Месяц назад
I played on a wood desk for a few weeks once but it's not a good material for a mousepad. Slow spots develop super quickly where your hand rests so have to clean every couple days but if the wood regularily gets wet it'll start to move and deform so you have to sand it down all the time and eventually it'll become bumpy from that because wood always has some parts that are soft and some that are hard. Glass, plastic or metal is much better for a mouse pad.

Either of the sizes mentioned above would be nice to have. I also saw that you guys were talking about selling internationally again, but I'm curious about how the maintenance would work since you'll need to send it in after 2-3 years of usage (for TOU at least). At this point, this is just getting ridiculous. Of course, some "eNtHuSiAst" is going to buy this garbage. Pricing it at $500 is an insult. This isn’t even new or revolutionary; metal or hard pads have existed for a long time. There’s even one on Amazon for $13-though it might not be the same size, you can do the math by scale. It doesn’t come close to being worth $500.

@@Styllarr Massive difference paying $35 extra dollars for an Artisan vs nearly 5x a glass pad. Even if you're a multi-millionaire paying $500 for mousepad is braindead behavior.
@Styllarr
@Styllarr Месяц назад
@@SchralpzIt's only expensive because it's a one-man operation where everything is made-to-order in a metal factory that they own. You can't really compare it since the base price is just higher. The CNC milling + treatment that the metal has to undergo isn't exactly cheap to perform. If you want a good example, you can take a look at custom BAM manufacturing. If you were to make a mousepad using that, it would probably cost around $1.5k lol. Take everything into consideration and the price begins to make more sense. Edit: But whether it's worth it or not for the end consumer is another matter. No one is forcing you to buy it. It's available for the few schizos out there that have exhausted all of the other options or for people that are just genuinely interested in it. There's a reason why they don't ship outside of JP and that's because they don't want to have to deal with international shipping + maintenance and customer support is a lot harder. Also, you can't try it in-person internationally, but you can if you are in JP. Even I definitely wouldn't want to blind buy something like this despite owning 60+ mousepads, so for me this is more of a "try before you buy" thing (I will be booking an appointment with them when I eventually visit JP to attend a gbaza). Most of my friends in this space share the same sentiment as I do for reference.
@Schralpz
@Schralpz Месяц назад
@@Styllarr I'm not questioning the manufacturing cost. I'm just saying in general it's questionable to spend that much on mouse pad. That's coming from someone who's spent $1000's on custom keyboards.
@Styllarr
@Styllarr Месяц назад
@@SchralpzAnd I can understand that. I've spent thousands on mousepads, keyboards, and audio, but would still be very hesitant to purchase a Ninja Ratmat mousepad. But as I mentioned in my previous comment, the target audience for this line of products is not the average consumer. It's mostly aimed at those that are seeking a unique experience that you can't get with anything else. Most people probably shouldn't be blind buying one, which is why you're able to book an appointment with them to try everything beforehand.

You can get your own sheet of glass, sand/polish it, but you won't be able to recreate any of the popular glasspads as there's more to it than what meets the eye. You likely won't be able to match the quality or consistency of the surface, and probably won't be able to even come that close to it feel-wise. That's not to say that you can't have something that you're happy with, but it may take more than one attempt. You also definitely can't create an original product like this that easily. There are a lot of special treatment methods that the metal has undergone and it's not something that is cheap. Look into custom BAM manufacturing if you want somewhat of an idea of what a quality metal mousepad would require.
