I found this video today, the very same day I started building my own Skullbriar deck. There's some crazy cards here I will definitely add to my deck list
Yeah that‘s the ridiculous thing about the Ozolith in a Skullbriar deck. You basically can give Skullbriar double the counters. If you have enough mana to recast Skully and a sac outlet, you can practically buff Skullbriar a lot.
Not sure if anyone has pointed this out, but when your commander is sent to hand/deck you can choose to put it in command zone instead. This prevents it from losing counters. This is due to the update to commanders dying rules making it a replacement effect in the case of hand/decks.
Also, while The Ozotlith is great in most +1/+1 decks, I believe it is risky in skullbriar. The Ozolith says when a creatures leaves the battlefield, it’s counters are put on the ozolith. This leaves it open for artifact removal, setting you back pretty hard. I’d suggest switching it out for Reyhan, Last of Abzan bc it is effectively the same without the risk of losing all of skullbriar’s counters. Video was great & put me on to some cards I hadn’t considered. Thank you!
@@sjorensenestraro167 It doesn't work like that actually, Ozolith just copies the counters. "2020-04-17: The Ozolith’s first ability doesn’t move counters off the creature that’s left the battlefield. Instead, it causes you to put a number of counters of each kind of counter that was on that creature onto The Ozolith."
If you are not a fan of infect, swap it out for a Ram Through. It feels less harsh and it's useful when you are on the defensive. Jarad Golgari Lich Lord is also awesome when he is allowed to land and has a half decent recursion ability to back him up. 👌
Been thinking about making a voltron deck for a bit now, and he has been one that I've been eyeing, I like that if he gets killed not all your efforts are lost compared to a commander like Light Paws. This list seems super cool I'm a pretty budget player so I'll probably use it as a base and make some budget cuts.
Awesome deck. I used it as a base for my Skullbriar. I'd really like to see a deck list for the version of the deck in the video, but the link for the non-alternate version is broken. Which version do you prefer playing? Also, in other comments you mentioned enhancing this deck with cards you had on order. Mind sharing your latest revision of this deck? Thanks!
No Opal Palace or did I overlook it. Also really like Tyrite Sanctum though admittedly it is pretty telegraphed, and the combination of Death's Presence and Gyre Sage. Anytime Skullbriar is blasted those counters go to Gyre Sage making it very easy to recast him. Speaking of recasting him mid to late game you don't do much with mana anymore so Skull Storm can basically end games when played that late into the game.
Hey dude thanks for watching! Gave you a shoutout in the vid! I made a few changes from what I had on MTGO last night and working on making a few more changes as I type this lol. The decklist is in the description to view. Thanks for stopping by!
May I ask what your experience has been with Blooming Marsh? I think the fast land is nice to make sure I can play Skullbriar on turn 2, but chances are high I draw it after turn 2 and it comes in tapped. Do you think it‘s still worth including?
I haven't really thought about it much to be honest. I hasn't detracted from the play experience though. Most of the time it works as intended. It's there because its a non-basic that can at least come in untapped sometimes and is better than a basic IMO
Ozolith doesn’t give you the option to remove the counters when a creature leaves the battlefield, the entire purpose of skullbriar is to not remove the counters. If Ozolith said “may” remove counters then it would be awesome.
Skullbriar was my 3rd deck and I made it when I was around 12-13 years old so it had a lot of budget but now I’m able to upgrade it. however one of the cheap cards that stayed was Nessian boar because it forces creatures to block it Skullbriar is guranteed to hit for full damage
I love this deck! I was wondering if you’d be willing to build a deck using Myrkul, Lord of Bones I really want to build a deck with him but I don’t exactly know where to start.
Honestly everything look pretty nice, i think my only change would be to remove forced adaptation since it's only an 'at your upkeep' trigger with no other effect, even at it's low cost i think id rather have a spider umbra, snake umbra, family favor, hydra's growth, predatory hunger or one with nature.
Just make sure you have a way to removal counters from skullbriar if you cast him turn two and someone puts a -1-1 counter on him he’s pretty unable to be casted unless you have an anthem effect 😂
I think if you have one, a Branching Evolution is way better. You don‘t care about the token multiplier part of Doubling Season in a Skullbriar deck and Branching Evolution is also way cheaper moneywise and CMC-wise than a Doubling Season.
try cards like Scavenged brawler and Tend the Pests in this deck. I run those with my skullbriar. tend the pests is pretty cheesy but scavenged brawler is a super good synergy.
Glad you like it! It turned out to be very strong and very fast during playtesting this morning. I'd like to enter a tournament with it after a couple more tweaks
