While the original price point was roughly $700, Newegg created a combo deal (link here: goo.gl/nAOswo) to drop the price to $630. Nice! Keep an eye out for a follow-up video where we'll show installing the OS, Kodi, and PowerDVD for watching Blu-ray discs.
Here's the part list rundown:

That's a really smart design for the optical drive and HDD. Love it.

Built an equivalent machine for roughly $400 a few months ago. Got a case with a built in 270w, an 88x with built in wifi/bluetooth, and a 2 tb HD. Using stock cpu cooler, so it runs a little hot, but otherwise it plays games as well as I could have hoped for. I would suggest a smaller psu if y'all are gonna build this, there's no need for going over 400w with an htpc.

Yeah I have been using mine since 2016. It has been great for me and has been through two builds so far. The new GD11 looks nice but I'm content with this older version.

It's January 2017.. I'm considering buying this case because I have held onto AMD FM1 A8-3850 and gigabyte A75 chipset mATX for years just because I could never throw them away and no ones buying a dead platform. I bought 8gb of 2400mhz RAM on ebay last month for $40 with options to upgrade my gaming PC or build an HTPC. I have an old Thermalright XP90 with a 92mm noctua fan and DVD drive from a prior build so all I need is a PSU and case to have an HTPC for my bedroom. I'm choosing this case because the computer I'm using now is full ATX z97, I5-4960k and 290X. I plan on frankensteining all the parts from my current Gaming PC to this HTPC some day. I think the GD09 is highly underrated as a gaming PC case and the 120mm fan set-up is probably the main reason why I'm choosing this case over steadily dwindling selection of HTPC cases on the market. My only concern is with the optical drive installed really limits the height of which heatsink you can use which most reviews of this case fail to mention. But then again, who uses optical drives these days? Hope this helps anyone out there in my position.

Almost two years later and I just ordered the case to replace a very similar Silverstone case that I have my system built in now. It only has one 120mm on the top of the case that I added because the stock 2x60mm fans were just not enough. The main reason for the order is the 120mm fans will really continue to allow me to run my hand me down hardware into this TV location. I am running a i7 920, Nvidia 970 & 24gb DDR3 currently and it works well for a gaming htpc. For those building from the ground up then a smaller more modern setup would work but this case allows me to reuse all my old hardware.

I used the same case in my htpc using the following parts: SilverStone Technology 600W SFX Full Modular Power Supply SX600-G) Corsair Hydro Series H55 Quiet Edition Liquid CPU Cooler Crucial MX300 275GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive - CT275MX300SSD1 Asus SATA Internal Blu-Ray Drive (BC-12B1ST) ASRock Motherboard ATX DDR3 2400 AM3 970A-G/3.1 AMD FD6300WMHKBOX FX-6300 6-Core Processor Black Edition Silverstone Tek Sleeved Extension Power Supply Cable with 1 x Motherboard 24 Pin Connector (PP07-MBBR) Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3L 1600 MT/s (PC3L-12800) CT2K51264BD160BJ 2 of Noctua SSO Bearing Fan Retail Cooling NF-R8 redux-1800 80mm fans 3 of Corsair Air Series SP120 High Performance Edition Fan MSI Computer Video Graphics Cards R9 280X GAMING 6G Note: during assembly I found all the cables from the sfx power supply to be too short and ended up using extra cables from my EVGA SuperNOVA 850 GS I also found that the Coasir H55 was not long enough to reach the fan position behind the power supply. So i cut out a 120 mm in the top cover just above the cpu and mounted the Cosair H55 in a push/pull configuration with the air flow out of the case. The cooler is mounted between the blue ray drive and the 80 mm rear fans. The metal is very thin on the case so you have to be very careful not to dent or bend the top cover. Eveything was a tight fit with no spare space but very good air flow.

8:14 , 12:50 , 11:28 hd is being cooled down by fan on left side of the case assuming the case face upward. but the roof of hd is being covered by black platform for cd rom, so the roof of hd can not be cooled down by the fan.
@guest2007
@guest2007 7 лет назад
11:28 roof of harddrives must not be covered because the roof contain holes source : 'allows for equalization of air pressure between the inside and outside of the drive. While it is not a complete pass-through of outside air into the HDD internals, there is a filter inside the hole that allows the air pressure to equalize.' in www.howtogeek.com/127433/what-is-the-purpose-of-the-do-not-cover-this-hole-hole-on-hard-drives/ from google (hdd do not cover hole) result 1

Sam Esman Nope. Default installation would use the two slots closest to the CPU on this motherboard but the first slot is blocked by the cooler. As a result, we used slots 3/4 which make up the second dual channel setup.
@samenjaimy
@samenjaimy 9 лет назад
Ow, ok. I thougt it never were two slots next to each other.
@CourtesyFlush87
@CourtesyFlush87 9 лет назад
Sam Esman Nope. This is why you ALWAYS read the motherboard manual to determine the correct slots. I hear people comment on this like it's 100% fact when they see side by side configurations... Truth be told, at one time, most motherboards did do alternating slots (still not all), however, it's rarely the case anymore. More and more motherboards today are side by side for dual channel, just for the exact reason that was shown in this video... Some CPU coolers will block a couple slots.

Derrick Woodward Thnx for the information!
@Ktmzqw
@Ktmzqw 9 лет назад
+Derrick Woodward While most of what you said is true, the memory controller assigns Slot A1 (1) and slot A2 (2) as Channel A and Channel B as Slot B1 (3) and Slot B2 (4). So with 2 Dimms, you either populate Slot 1 and 3 or Slot 2 and 4. Therefore, this setup is not running dual channel mode. This is mentioned on the board's manual page 15: dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketFM2/A88X-PLUS/E8563_A88X-PlUS.pdf ( www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/A88XPLUS/ )

An Excellent Build that I like. Great Job Guys! Now to address the millions of Intel and Nvidia Fanboys who are going to go apeshit in the Comments section now: 1. This HTPC is Overkill. Response: It can be more than just an HTPC. For example, It makes a Fantastic Budget Gaming rig with some adjustments, and is very upgradable. For example, you can add a R9 380 or 390X Later and you can game at much improved settings if you want to, add extra RAM if your system requires it, and there's a ton of room for more Hard Drives or an SSD if you need it. Or you can use it as an Everyday Internet+Office PC. Sure an A10 would be overkill for it, but it will exceed with Documents and Basic Internet Use. 2. APU's suck at Gaming. Response: If you try to play them at 1440p or Higher Maxed out, Fanboys! The iGPU may not be able to play the newest titles at 1080p Ultra 16xMSAA whatever, but For the Budget Gamer, it can play most demanding titles at 1080p at Low-Medium settings, or Even Non-Demanding Popular games like TF2, Dota 2, and League of Legends at 1080p with the settings Maxed out or close to maxed out. I've seen Benchmarks around to prove that. Do your research. 3. You can make a Intel Build for way cheaper. Response: While yes you can, Not everyone is going to be committed to a Dual-core Pentium, and Not everyone is going to be interested in Overclocking. That being said, it is possible to make a Intel Build using a Core i3 and a GTX 750ti and it will outperform this AMD Build. I can't deny that. That being said, there are others who will want to be different and prefer AMD for reasons of their own. In the End, What PCPartPicker is doing here is showing you the many ways you can build a PC. They don't need to be gaming PC's all the time. Why? Because Not Everyone is going to Build a PC for Gaming! While many of us do use our PC's to play games, it does not mean that everyone is going to use their Computers to play games. Others may use them for Basic use or other things. So In the End, I appreciate this build because it's different. It's not just another Intel+Nvidia Gaming Love Affair of a Build, and that It's an AMD Build that people may consider building.

Most builds I see with this case are sacrificing dimm slots by using low-profile coolers when there is actually not really a need for it. This case has enough clearing for a reasonably-sized cooler that isn't too tall to hit the top of the case or too wide to hit the back end of the bay or back of the GPU.

I built a mini-ITX HTPC with that same APU, but the whole system is about 1/3 the size. I bought the APU, motherboard (with built-in WiFi), 8G ram, 1TB HDD, case, Blu-ray drive, and CPU cooler, for a total of $400. I scavenged a power supply from on older system, but unless your power supply is worth $200 you paid way too much to build a way over-sized HTPC.

I tried to do a Cosair H55 liquid cooler and the pipes were about three inches too short. trying to install behind the power supply, but i did manage to make a cut-out on the top of the case directly above the cpu and bolted the H55 to the lid. Have it in push-pull configuration. had to also install fan grill to keep my grandsons happy little finger from being shredded off. The lid is very thin and the top is easily bent so be very careful when drilling out a 120 mm grill whole.

Hey im a noob, I was going to build a pc but never got around to it. I get the general idea of everything i need, but there's a few things im still not too sure about. Do sata cables normally come with a motherboard? What type of wires do cases come with other than the usual Power, led , etc? Basically if i purchase a case, motherboard,cpu, ssd, ram, cpu cooler, gfx card, power supply, wifi card, & dvd drive ~ i wouldnt need anything else other than a screwdriver to make the computer work in terms of parts/correct wires/etc? right? I already have an audio interface and ofcourse i know i also need a monitor, OS, mouse/keyboard, etc. hopefully someone can answer my questions :P
@12349goku

sata cables do come with the mobo (speakers with cases if the have em) cases come with the screws and the cables in cases are hd audio, usb 2 and 3 (if applicable) power leds, hard drive leds, and reset (if applicable). all you need is to order your preferred parts, have a nice screwdriver that is decently long/magnetic with a standard phillips head and then you just follow the manual from there!

+Steven Pieklo But what if you wanted to play some games that didn't require too much compute performance e.g. Surgeon Simulator, Minecraft the lot.. Those two options you just recommended won't handle that. Also, when you buy a PC, you know it's going. To work (quality control), but when you build it yourself, it feels amazing for it to boot properly for the first time because you built it, not a company... Now who doesn't like that thrill? Come on now, reply.

Ok well if you want to play games like minecraft or steam games the chromebook is out of the question. I easily get 60 fps on minecraft with shaders and high quality textures on my laptop with intel core i3-3120m which came out about 3 years ago when windows 8 just came out. And on games like surgeon simulator fps doesn't really matter its just like a flash game really. And now HP came out with the tabs with magnetic keyboards and those 360 laptops which can run pentium or i3 and play minecraft just as good as my laptop. And you could probably still find my laptop somewhere on ebay or amazon for at least 300 dollars less than it was originally.

I'm not familiar with Zen, but the performance increase for graphics would be worth it. I am actually looking to build a dual graphics 'htpc- overkill' so friends can use it when they come to the house. I currently have a alienware alpha for the girlfriend (didn't feel like building one for the same price) and a desktop for myself. I've been checking the reviews for the performance tests of dual graphics and the Godavari + r7 250 has been looking really good. I think if you're playing WoW you will want the card, they only cost like 100 bucks or less and its low profile ready usually, so it fits most setups. pcpartpicker.com/p/xVmvyc this is the build I am looking at so far, not sure of what case i'll use, but I also have some SSDs I'm not using that will be the main storage of this new system. I think its going to be a very competent pc - I'm only using the 'htpc' because I'm planning to keep it very small form factor.

+XPRT NJA Check out JayztwoCents Video about AMD 7850K budget game build. His video offers several different budget options and demonstrates FPS on BTF 4. What I focus on when building a PC is what is the PRIMARY purpose. In my situation with my 7870K on Asus A88X-PRO mobo is everyday task, HTPC, gaming. As a former avid console gamer I chose my components based on current needs and ability to upgrade with a DGPU. The 7870K with a samsung 250 gb SSD and WD 1tb HDD surpassed my expectations. I added a gigabyte PCIe 802. dual band (use 5ghz AC wifi) and Bluetooth 4.0 that uses an intel 7260 chipset. With the HDMI, Wifi & Bluetooth, my use is now geared towards HTPC and multiple device connectivity to display on my home theater system. It is a overkill for a HTPC but for the price (bought components when they went on sale) with rebates one hell of a PC for less than $450.00. Thanks to Newegg and Frys.

if i install rx 480 8gb Will there be a bottleneck ?
@joshc6493
@joshc6493 8 лет назад
On most games no. But on games with extreme CPU usage the A10 may bottleneck the system. The A10 contains a beefy GPU for an APU system so its not the best option if you want to have a graphics card anyway. Even the FX series CPUs would be a better choice, along with most any Intel chip i3 6th generation or better.
@Goriaas
@Goriaas 8 лет назад
no I think it will be very rare for this CPU to bottleneck a rx 480 or rx 470
@Goriaas

but you might aswell get the Athlon 880k because it's cheaper and has the same CPU, or get an I3 if you don't have the mobo yet

@JoeCrowman

this is not an HTPC, its more of an old PC style case with very low end specs. HTPC does not require all these PCIe slots, the motherboard could have been switched with a mini itx with a builtin wifi and a smaller case with a build it PSU which would cut down the cost of this ridiculous build

A poor case for a high price! You can't even install a radiator in this one. No matter where you put it, you suffocate either the GPU or the Radiator itself. Practically defeating the point of using one. To optimally use one, you basically have to install the Fans outside of the case because there is not enough room. That is just a WTF fail by design. This case is no friend of optimal airflow...

Um. This is an HTPC, right? Are you trying to play games on it? It's not powerful enough for the newest games on a big LED tv with all settings on. If you're just playing movies and music, like most people with an HTPC, it's way, way overkill. You do NOT need to spend $630 to play video, even in 4k. You do NOT need a gigantic ATX motherboard to play video. You do NOT need to buy Asus. You do NOT need the fanciest, most expensive RAM on the market, or 8gb of it, or 550 preposterous watts of power, or an AC network adapter, especially not Asus. And you especially do not need Windows 10, which is a major privacy and bandwidth hog. This "HTPC" is like buying a Ferrari to go grocery shopping. I guess both will make you feel like your penis is bigger, but really they're just an enormous waste. If you must have Windows, you can build the whole thing for $300. For $45 you can get a respectable 2014 Intel G3260 3.3GHz, which has plenty of overhead for running 3 movies at once. Put that on a $68 MSI H81 micro-ITX mobo and you can toss in a small $60 case. Get 4gb of cheap RAM, a basic $60 GT720 video gard if you need 4k (which you don't), basic 400 watt power supply, decent 3 TB drive, done. Throw Windows 7 64-bit and Kodi on top and you have something that's still going to play movies and music with zero hiccups. Or, get an Intel NUC for $400 and you're set. Even better - one of those $150 Android streaming boxes. You'll get 90% of the functionality.
@suny0000
@suny0000 7 лет назад
I absolutely want to make it look good and in line with the other HT stuff I have. So yes I need this case and good parts inside, so I don't need to upgrade it early because of some evil genius, who invented another HEVC something Main 10 something and no old build can play it.
