I know you probably won’t see this, but would love for you to break down a pair of rick Owens shoes. Ramone’s or geobaskets. They’re SO expensive, and probably the least comfortable shoe ever. Would love your expert opinion on them.
Wested is just around the corner from me and I have one of their Indy jackets in black (a cancelled, custom order) which they kindly altered in their shop to fit me better. They revealed that their jackets are generally made in London's East End (the historical home of London's rag trade), although some are still probably made on site in Kent, but I've always wondered where these Alden copies are made and how they measure up. Thanks for this.
I wore out the heels on my Timberland Pros, so I cut a couple pieces of scrap leather to shape and glued them in place. Working well so far. Also cut some tanned leather into sole shape and put it underneath the foam insert. Doesn’t take much to improve some of the lesser boots out there
Something I would like to see brought up in future videos in this series is how anatomical the last is compared to the Indy. I do really dig the series idea though, especially for how much of a letdown the Indy boots are for the price
Third year I’ve been watching your moctober series, my personal favorite. Also the third year I’ve been thinking about Truman moctoe boots but since there is nobody who reviews boots like you do, I’ve refused to make the hefty investment since I’m a working class man. Either way I’m excited for the coming series. Thanks for all the informative work you’ve done, it has helped me from making unfit purchases.
Weston, you gotta check out the Parkhurst Niagara boot. It's got all the components you are looking for in a high quality Indy alternative at half the price
Would love to know how good the construction is on the Barker Indiana. Barker has a rep as a high quality English brand, and the Indiana is a nice homage without feeling like a ripoff.
I got a pair of these boots a few years back. In addition to the stuff in the video, they run very small. A well made correctly fitting shoe for me runs between 12.5 to 13 US sizing. I usually err on the larger and get a 13, which is what I ordered in this particular shoe. When I got them and tried them on they were way small. I thought they put the wrong size in the box, but the tag sewn onto the tongue does say 13 US. They feel more like an 11. Very tight. I took them to a local shoe shop that does repairs and such and had them stretched... no-go. Still extremely tight. Initially I tried to return/exchange them but the person I spoke to in England told me that I would be better off trying to sell them due to the high cost of shipping. Not good. So here they sit...
Wondering if they're old stock, and a different build, because the ones I got recently have the sizing detail printed on the tongue - there is no tag? And the sizing, to me, was true. I ordered the same UK size I wear in other boots and it felt identical to them.
J.Crew has a sorta Alden replica called the "Kenton pacer boots", they're just under $300. I got them on sale and i've been really enjoying them, i'd love to see yall cut that Alden alternative
Anybody paying the MSRP for them is a sucker. J Crew runs sales all year round. It's just a matter of waiting a little bit to get them for half price or even less than that
Id love to see you review a high end dress boot...something like a gaziano and girling or a john lobb...would be really interesting to see how they stack up!
I’m a huge fan of the Indiana Jones franchise and Cosplay as the character since it was the first Cosplay I ever attempted. I only bought the Wested’s cause they are cheaper than the Alden’s. I still plan on getting the 405’s. Cause I like screen accuracy.
I've never cared about style as much as craftsmanship, quality and durability. Your videos help a lot with sifting out the glamour vs the pieces they wish to emulate.
They’re good looking and would be decent for an affordable rotation fashion boot. I have a pair of J. Crew’s Kent moc toe boot. They have Goodyear Welted construction. Got them for less than $100 (preowned). Retail new was $295. Definitely not a quality boot but a good share
I'd love to see a breakdown of this boot. I've had mine for about a year now, and it's been fantastic. Served me well at a job where I was regularly walking between 8 and 14 miles a day on tile floors, it's served me fine on casual hikes shorter than 2 miles, and they dress up nice enough that I can wear them to my office job now with a jacket and tie. For about $200, that's a lot of value for me and they've performed just fine every way I've asked them to, but I just don't have the experience, wallet, or opportunity to compare them to much else. Especially compared to any of the Indy type boots. They seemed like the best option I could afford, you know?
The Red Wing “1930s Sport Boot” (8075/8076) was a solid Alden Indy alternative, with the kind of construction you would expect from their heritage boots. Too bad it was a single-season release limited to the Asia-Pacific market….
Have a pair of Txture MocToe Sanity boots in the production process. Supposed to ship in early November.... Can't wait to get my first pair of Indo boots.
I went and got my wested boots and watched while looking at mine. Kind of disappointing but I wear mine for when I need dress shoes. Like for Church and things. Some moc toe boots that are also goodyear welt that I suggest are silverbull boots, bonanza boots, and patron boots ( only found on ebay).
While you are doing moctoes I would love to see you review the J. Crew Kenton Pacer boot. This is also an "Indy" style boot that probably is positioned between probably the boots you are reviewing in this video and Aldens.
I once bought a pair of boots that had a true goodyear welt for $40. The welt itself was plastic and I have been slowly replacing it as well as the insole, midsole, and outsole as an ongoing project.
Fifth element... Never get enough shout outs, epic, and while I'm sure they made something big like Ruby Rod's coats, part of me wants super high quality orange straps from Leelu's outfit.
Love the trippy music. JCrew makes an Indy knock off, cleverly called the “Kenton Pacer,” (after Indiana Pacers?). Anyway, it’s Goodyear welted and decent quality, though the tongue doesn’t stay in place. They are $298 at full retail, but often on sale for $175-$200. I’d be curious about what’s inside…
Thanks for proving my point since i almost orderedd these boots some time ago. I also made an order according to your recommendation, boots are yet to arrive but i have high hopes!
I have these, and Ive been wondering if they were actually Goodyear welted like they claimed. Honestly really disappoints me. Also I'd like to add that the speed hooks on these are FRAGILE. First time putting them on and one speed hook came off and could be reattached, so I'm stuck lacing them only two speed hooks high.
Don't underestimate the stress on shoes in classrooms. They probably won't get dirty as quickly, but you have to stand on them all day long. And if they do not give you good support, your feet will hurt like no tomorrow after a short time wearing them. And if the materials are not good, they will wear out pretty quickly. So no, I would not wear these even as a teacher.
Thanks for doing this one! I requested this a little while ago. Their jackets are actually really nice, but I was suspicious of the boots -- looks like that was well founded.
They can also be had for $150 or less very easily with their frequent sales and at that price they are a good deal. They won't turn into a heirloom but it would be silly to expect them to for $150 or less.
Check out a Chinese brand called Yomior who do a good version of these. Fully leather lined in cow leather. 94gbp. I have 2 pairs from Yomior, not the Alden clones but, a cheap desert boot and a 1907 clone. The 1907 is solid in a really nice nubuck type leather, leather welt etc. Took them to my cobbler for some Vibram lugged soles and he couldn't believe I paid less than 100gbp for them I've 4 or 5 pair of boots from 2 Chinese makers and all are excellent hand built units
I doubt real leather will ever actually dissapear we do have the tech to artificially "grow" leather. It still one of the best materials for outdoor wear. Outperforming many human made synthetics., especially when combining leather with said man-made synthetics. I personally wear Brahmas one of the best boots you can buy for under $100.00, had this pair through rough wear for going on 4 years, still waterproof, comfortable and warm. The are real but cheaper leather, with man-made polymer lining, and triple stitched, an unusual feature for cheaper outdoor combat-style boots. I also got a very nice leather jacket with YKK hardware and cotton/wool quilted lining. It was purchased at a thrift ship for $10.00, great condition. Something I just love about leather for practicality purposes.
You really should do the Russell moccasins. They claim a lot of big stuff but I feel like it’s plausible. Also they just changed owners so you could see if there’s a dip in quality. Plus they’re in the Smithsonian a few times which is cool
holy cow moctober already. I'd love for you cut apart a set of 4183, the jcrew roughnecks. They have a unremovable gel insole that is so comfortable IDK how it isnt the standard. it doesnt form to the shape of your foot at all it just cushions you like the chest of a busty goth girl. my pair was built in 08 i've owned them since ~16 and theyre still going strong.
they are not for hiking, they are for staring at yourself in the mirror. GREAT VIDEO ! I am getting them cuz I need to stare at myself in the mirror. im sure I will walk in them eventually.
Speaking of "costume boots", could you maybe do sometime in the future the Stacy Adams Madison Cap-Toe Boots that Ryan Gosling wore in the movie Drive?
It would be really great to see a pair of White's Mule Packers cut in half to see what brings them in at a lower price than the original White's Packer, and if they're more bang for your buck.
I wish Red Wing could release a more casual pair of boots, in their Heritage line, not an Alden knowckoff, but something as casual. And I'm talking about Red Wing, not only because they are cheaper than many others, but also because they are widely available outside of the US. I won't ever buy a 300/400/500$ pair of boots without trying.
I'd really like to see you cut the Canadian army mk3 boots. I belive it would be the first boot you'd cut up made of pebble leather and/or 2 layers of leather across tge whole boot.
I think it's worth looking into Carolina's Gold line of boots and specifically the moc toe version. They're $300 and made in Lèon, Mexico. They seem a bit overpriced but maybe a dissection can help Carolina justify the price.
Could you please do a review on Anfibio boots made in Montreal Canada. They are advertised as top quality hand crafted boots but I wore the heel and sole out in one season. When I called them about this they told me to take them to a good repair shop ! $380 wasted.
I am still waiting for Allen Edmonds!!! I have a few of thier boots and shoes. I would want you to cut them in half and show other US based compaines. Guess I will wait for another year or 2 till you get around to them :)
