You should get 1 or 2 of those 1000L totes and collect rain water from your rain gutters and you would never have to worry about lugging water again! Awesome video and great work
This is the first video I've watched of yours. You are awesome. No rich daddy, no venture for fame and fortune. Just a really cool guy doing what he loves. There are too many folks who have zero clue about this stuff doing it way outside of their own means. Good to see someone who knows what's up
I just want to thank you. I had never heard about hepvo valves before and my off-grid kitchen doesn't have room for a proper trap and I've been trying like crazy to find a solution. from what I've seen so far this looks perfect.
Oh man, out of all the off-grid cabin videos I've seen, this looks to be the most featured and practical. Instant whole house hot water from the tank. I looked up that hot water heater and it seems like an awesome price. I'm subscribed to learn more from your other videos, I hope to see how you did this all! Take care.
REALLY NICE BUILD!! While traveling through Maine, we were invited to breakfast at an off-grid house. They used wood chips in a 5-gallon bucket, in their bathroom. At this off grid house were 5 teenage boys. Needless to say, I had to do the doo, and thought for sure that if that bathroom already didn't smell like poop, it was about to. Those wood chips did the trick, I couldn't believe it.
I wonder if building something like this in northern Maine would work, or if how he did the pipes so they didn’t freeze would work. It gets mighty cold up there. I’d love to build something like this and he has the best, smartest ideas. Kudos to him ☝️
Hello, I told my husband to view your video because it's very impressive. Simply, it's an easy off grid built that can still be done on a low budget. You've given us the absolute solution for our built. Thank you for sharing .
solar panels will be awesome and the rainwater catchment is a winner I did a 55-gallon poly drum off one gutter downspout it's never been empty....yall looking good man
Awesome set up. A murphy bed where your bed is at would open up alot of space. Just an idea. With your skills you could easily build the frame yourself.
My thoughts exactly, and I’d add a fold down table to the base, as a dinette top to use when needed. That’s my vision/dream but what he has is pretty sweet too. 👍
Your experience with installing both a shower, water heater, and a propane heater are the projects I had in mind for my addition up at our camp in northern Ontario. Freezing of pipes is an annual concern come winter and you covered that topic nicely.
Nice little off grid home, you could always make some outside shutters too! :) And either make a shelf above the shower/kitchen to hold some 50 gallon barrels for extra water and put some on the outside to catch rain water filter that to the inside barrels for kitchen/shower too. :)
For your gravity fed shower head you could use the same type of manual valve used in Navy shower heads. Open the valve, get wet, close the valve, scrub up, open the valve again & rinse off. No wasted water. (important if you're hand carrying the water)
As a navy Seabee my first trip was Vietnam, no barracks , we were birthed on the uss baxer a ww11 troop ship , showers for 30min per day get wet soap rinse get out . Fresh water wasn’t for wasting , sure was 😀 glad I wasn’t a real sailor . Only spent 4 or5 days on there but it was and is a memory.
Great job adding the bathroom, you never know, one day you may want to live full time in it! You will need something like a fridge to store your cold foods, guess you could cook outside or on the woodstove! Love the window shutters!
As a guy who built 2 cabins off grid one way off grid before led I’m really impressed. My water was by an elevated drum , fill er up , one line went to the kitchen sink , the other to a shower head , stand on a pallet out doors and wash . Company was always 😮 , didn’t work well during dear season . There still is a barrel full of memories of that place , wish I still owned it . Yours is first rate
Very nice job I really like your idea on the venting of the water heater. I built an 18’ tiny house on wheels. I towed it from Central California to the center of Montana. Last summer I added a 10’ x 12’ bedroom & bathroom addition to it. Haven’t completed the bathroom yet I’m going to use your idea on my tiny house. Thanks Great info!
The cabin is sooooo cozy and nice.so happy about the bathroom, now you guys can enjoy it for longer time span.its really beautifull.i know you guys enjoy your time their for sure.
Thanks for the ideas about lighting! I am going to use some of them on my cabin. I heat my water in the summer in a black, 55 gallon, plastic trash can. It works wonderfully. I have put a hose connector at the bottom of the trash can to connect to a shower head.
Totally love the whole thing, down to the details. I have to add on though. Dealing with an existing cabin. But I've gotten some great bits of info on how I'm going to add on a 5x8 shower, toilet and storage space. I'll run a roof 18 ft wide across the back of cabin and end up with two covered storage areas on either side of the addition. Roof line will match the short side of the saltbox style
I found I had winter freezing issues in my faucets. A very small amount of water stayed inside the valve and would blow out when it froze. For two winters I had to rebuild two sink faucets and a shower faucet. After that I removed them in the fall and replaced in the spring. I'm confident there is a better solution but tis worked for me.
Very nice! Ya, it turned out great! the wood finishes on the cabinets and countertops look really awesome! Love the floor to ceiling woodwork! Great ideas!
Looks great, that wall paneling alone would cost $7,000 even with the slightly reduced prices. I guess that stuff is crazy popular now because it sure isn't priced like soft wood.
Using custom cut microfiber foam blocks (or any kind of foam blocks cut to fit) you can put them in between the windows and the shutters you built to keep the cold out through the winters.
@@theyframedme I think you just moisten the window and the bubble wrap should stick. I haven’t tried it yet, but there are several videos about it. 🙂 Great use for all that bubble wrap from shipping that ends up in the trash.
Great inspiration for some things we have in mind for a property we're working on now. I watched from its first iteration until now, and I love the updates!
Cabin is really great Ada far as water for extended stay they sell these things called bladders you fill with water like up to 50 gallons you could refill with that
This is so helpful. The gray water system especially. I am planning a very similar project for my river camp. Thanks so much. I already have a Thetford I use for tent camping. I think I'm going to do an incinerating toilet in my cabin. I have electricity available.
You are probably one of the best people on RU-vid That I've seen, I basically sat all day looking at every one of your Cabin videos I love how you describe everything you've done.. Looking forward to the video when you add the solar to this cabin I will be buying a lot of product from your Amazon affiliate products very soon... BTW What is the inside dimensions of this cabin? Thanks keep the great work up, love your videos.. I think when I do my pex plumbing I will slant all the pipe towards one way this way it will be easy for me to drain the system if I need to do it.
LOL,,, This looks fantastic. I did get some working ideas from you as well. Not sure I wanna do that Tongue and Groove walls again. That was 3 weeks out of my life,, : ) But, Boy ! It sure is a Beaut ! Congrats and Thanx for the amazing Video. I am currently having a 12’x16’ garden shed built and in our Twsp we have an ‘under 200 Ft’ size limit on skids. Not sure how I’m gonna handle any underneath plumbing projects.
Wow thanks much. I'm going to be moving into my 14x18 cabin before next winter that has no water, plumbing, electric or heat. I've been considering many ideas but loving your shower propane n electric set up. I'm gonna put in a wood stove, propane heater, Kitchen sink, cabinets, propane stove and probably a unique refrigerator. Probably going to get a well drilled up in the field above the cabin and use it to fill an IBC tote and use gravity to the cabin with a 12 volt pump there. Probably also going to use a solar generator and some panels for electric.
just use the vent pipe from the stove wrap the copper pipe around it and then up on top of the shower with a tank or direct you get hot water constantly with the 12v pump.
Thanks for taking the time to explain the water/heater system. I plan on doing something similar for my shower house, but now considering having another system in the main cabin. I'd be interested in how you plan to keep that LiFePO4 battery above freezing when you are not at the cabin. I am considering RV tank heater pads, but concerned about power consumption.
One good thing about a cabin if you and the old lady ever have a fight you got a place to go to call home so maybe it's a good thing you put a bathroom in I sure wouldn't want to track out in the woods every time I had to take a dump
HELLO THERE....GREETING FROM SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO. YOUR CABIN IS BEATIFUL BUT IS SCREAMING FOR A SCREEN PORCH YN THE ENTRANCE AND A FENCE AROUND HER FOR PROTECTION. I'M GLAD YOU BUILD THE FULL BATHROOM INSIDE, I WAS GOING TO SUGGEST IT BUT THATSCREENING PONCH IS A MUST FOR MOSQUITOS, FLYNING INSECT AND WILD ANIMALS THAT CAMES BY. THAT IS MY SUGGESTION FROM PUERTO RICO. MERRY CHRISTMAS.
