Nolan is starting to hold himself like a tradesman! Confidence, dexterity, body positioning, troubleshooting, overall attitude. Really awesome. Biggest transformation of the series tbh
I’m glad to see Nolan in a better head space. HiLow has been rough on him in previous seasons. Most people don’t know this, but Nolan is actually 16, he just looks 30 because of the stress of building on a budget.
tbh this series kind of is a successor to money pit, similar concept just with a larger scale (both in doing two projects and having more people involved), but yeah it would be cool to see some more solo zach content
@@dovahsam7804 Zach did mention during Money Pit that the series was also a sort of middle point in terms of prices compared to hi-low, which is also a great thing! :D Both series are amazing ^^
This show has taught me the ultimate big brain move is to go high on some parts and low on others because some stuff is unnecessary and other stuff is just dumb not to get for the little bit of extra money. With that said though, even some of the entire kits could be mixed and matched to make it cheaper in some ways and more reliable in others. Love the show and builds
All Lo car needed was GKtech angle kit with BC racing coilovers and adjustable voodoo13 rear kit and would have the exact same feel as Hi car and still be half the price lol
There is nothing wrong with budget shopping on certain parts. I've got a lot of higher end parts for my engine build, but there are even higher parts out there. My build should be able to support north of 1000hp if I would ever want to take it that far, but then there are other parts when I shopped around to get the best deal I could because price didn't make a difference on what I was getting.
I'm going to keep saying it: Props to whoever is buying LoCar parts this season! These are waaaay more reasonable "budget" parts than the whatever-unlabeled-Chinese-stuff-we-can-find-on-eBay parts from last season. LoCar should be "budget", but not "broke" and HiCar should be "no expense spared", and I think you all nailed it this season.
So happy to see that Low car is coming together nicely! It doesn’t look as good (appearance wise) but I think at this point it would be more fun to take to the track in my opinion.
I agree with you. They are using an iron block from a truck and producing a good power level. If they had spent a little more with a wrecked Camaro Engine, even with that would be way cheaper than a new ls3 525 engine and the Tremec transmission.
Sounds amazing too, the custom exhaust on hi car doesn't sound half as good. Plus lo car laying down mo powah, and it didn't get all twisted up in a crash. Lo car would definitely be my choice! Edit: And now lo car also has the best e-brake lol.
It's cool to see that most of the lo-car changes this season were actually "better" than hi-car's changes, whereas season 1 it was mostly hi-car's changes giving the best improvements.
@Brenton I also think that the slight improvements with ridiculously expensive parts is only valuable to drivers that need to shave milliseconds of times.
Its a really good example of why sometimes going for the higher end parts just means you get more adjustability instead of more fun. You can get to 90% of the high end pretty easy, but that last 10% is expensive, time consuming, and has more issues to solve. Like Hi-Car having 4x the volume in the caliper pistons on a manual hydraulic brake. They should have went with one or two piston Wilwoods in the same color or they would have to upgrade the master cylinder for the hand brake to something with more volume.
its mainly because they're just throwing money at it senselessly without putting much thought. If you wanted a real high / low budget comparison you'd just write a check to a race shop and have them sort your shit out. Wouldn't make for fun content though.
This time they're not using shit tier lo car parts, they're more mid range, and generally that's the best place for price and performance. Expensive gets you fancy, but if you can't use the fanciness, then it's spending for no purpose. The enhanced turning cycle didn't improve performance, nor did the higher quality calipers, and the usable power band is superior in lo car too, since drifting doesn't need higher speeds. Lo car is more fit for purpose, and a better price.
@@hypnotoad2999 It's good practice to always trailer your racecar/bike to the track. That way if something goes wrong you aren't completely stranded far from home. Driving your own driftcar hours to the track not only puts unnecessary wear and tear on the car, but now you likely don't have replacement parts or tools.
@@hypnotoad2999 I get what you're saying, but there's still a chance both hi and low car are still in compliance to remain road cars. We don't know if they'd pass smog/etc. Or not.... Or at least I don't 🤷♂️
@@hypnotoad2999 and you have every right to be: everything out there is either expensive or on fire And even then, Cali would probably tax you on the fire anyway 🤣
Hi-Low probably has to be one of the best series on RU-vid. Was great to watch the progression of the Z's. Can't wait to see the next Hi-Low project if there is one 🤞🏾
Oh thats for sure. This is one series on RU-vid that ive watched every video in and learned the most. Makes me wonder what the next Hi-low series will be
kind of wished they'd take turns in each others car, whether they could feel the difference in suspension. Would've been interesting to see if hi-car preferred the cheaper handbrake and vise versa
@@dspringer3792 absolutely no disrespect to Nolan at all. Just would like to see how “I assume Nolan is entry level drifter” compares to someone on a higher level with that same car and see it’s capabilities.
Nolan and locar are like the guys that show up in mullets and are out for a good time. James and hicar are like the ones that have to constantly tinker because they can't comprehend that the good ol boys are hanging with or even surpassing them. Love this series!
I want high low Z season 3 bb! They were givin it the beans and pullin the brakes. The entire crew that works on this is awesome but Nolan's child like enthusiasm makes me smile every time, I really believe he probably spent the rest of the day drifting around that horse shoe.
I had so much nightmares that I woke up to this and instantly feel my fears go away as I watch the cast of donut midia go thru hell putting the z's together.(then breaking them)
Really cool to see a real world example of how more pistons doesn't = more better for brakes. A lot of high performance cars come from the factory with single piston brakes that do tremendously well.
You know your videos are good when my wife, who doesn’t know Kia Soul from a mustang, gets excited for hi-low. Keep up the hard work and thank you for getting my wife stoked on cars! Much love!
This has nothing to do with the video but I'm just thinking about how much filming you guys have to coordinate and do and the work that goes into producing this great content and I just want to say THANK YOU! 😍
Ok I love this channel. So much. I know y'all have touched so many car enthusiasts from all age ranges and walks of life. Seriously thank yall for the content, the whole team.
But like, how is $800 “low”? I’ve spent under $200 on my in-line hydro handbrake kit and it works great for me. Wouldn’t going in-line vs dual-caliper be a better comparison?
Glad I'm not the only one to say something about that.... $800 is getting into the pricey territory for a hydro and plenty of setups can be had for under $500.
Hi car might have some air somewhere in the lines, it shouldn’t be that much of a movement reguardless of how many pistons are there because it should just take more fluid into the lines and sitting in the calipers. All it should take is displacing an ounce or two of fluid to get them fully engaged because they move such a small distance, that or you need a bigger reservoir.
The car is slow and needs an oil change after 5 miles. Cracked headgasket. What 250hp? Lmao they need brakes to go faster on a flat course? Shit stinks💩
Ideally, they could have gone back to the garage and worked out some issues with the Hi Car e-brake before trying again. It seems like there's some definite tuning/cable replacement needed on that car.
I'm not an expert, but to me it looks like high car got their maths wrong & didn't correctly match their master cylinder to their calipers & it's either not moving enough fluid, or the cylinder ratios aren't sufficiently multiplying the applied force from the master cylinder.
@@Perfectly_Other if thats the case it would have more leverage, but should always be easyer to lock the wheel. The problem its probably air in the system, it should be bleed again.
I think the next idea should be hi lo with lowriders I loved the episode they did on past gas about them and there is so much you could do with it, like paint job, interiors, sound system, wheels, hydraulics, suspension and then for the finally they could go face to face in a hop off submitting into a lowrider show or get an actual club to judge their cars without telling them who spent more
Love Hi/Low. I REALLY loved when you guys did the Tacos, I like the 4WD side of vehicles these days way more than cars and street racers now that I've gotten older
So an honest observation/question In the last few episodes James seems to be off. I dont know if he's not feeling well or is not as excited to do the episodes anymore. Like Nolan, Justin, Jobe rest of crew all seem excited to be filming and doing things. James seems to be reading a script or just annoyed to be there. The way he holds his body, The way he looks at the camera, his mannerisms all seem to be different then when he first started Donut, or even as a few months ago. I really enjoy this show and hope he's ok with his heart/medical situation, also hope he still enjoys doing his job
LOVE THIS SERIES! You guys are great hosts! I love seeing the development! Also, when he needed two arms for the brake on high-car, I was like "that sucks!" You guys are awesome. Can't wait for the next episode! Cheers!
Would love to see a short video reevaluating the limited slip diff vs the welded diff with respect to drifting, because it definitely does make a difference
14:58 the explanation is incorrect. It's implying that the force being spread out over a wider area somehow means there's less force acting on the rotor. In a closed system, P1 (the pressure in the master cylinder) = P2 (pressure acting on 1st cylinder in caliper) = P3 (pressure acting on the 2nd cylinder in caliper); F1/A1 = F2/A2 = F3/A3; F1*A2/A1 = F2; F1*A3/A1 = F3 Assuming the pressure being generated at the master cylinder is the same between the two cars, and that each Wilwood piston is the same surface area as the stock caliper, then the Wilwood would be generating more force on the rotors because of its larger surface area contacting the rotor. An issue with the setup is the effective moment arm acting on the rod from the Sikky lever. Looking at where the rod attaches to the lever, it is evident that the force translated through the lever into the rod will be at an angle offset from the rod axis. It looks like there is about 30 degrees of displacement before the force vector acts in line with the axis. By that point your arm is already in the seat
So, the fix is in the handle geometry. Perhaps the connecting rod could be shortened just a little bit or the anchor point adjusted to put more force and sooner on the other side of the pivot point
finale idea for this series: donut car? get the winning parts of every episode into another 350z. like low-car's engine, hi-car's turbo, etc, and make the ultimate "donut" car.
What I really wanna see is James fight his own battles, he never does any of the driving. Jobe is very talented as a driver but I wanna see what James can do since he's the one who talks all the smack.
The problem with hicar was that in the first season, they got the full wilwood BBK. Calipers are fitted to a rotor size, so there may not have been a more reasonable dual piston real caliper that would have fit their setup.
Seeing all the love for Nolan in the comments gives me so much hope for humanity. It's so true though. Nolan we see now has grown so much since the beginning days.
Just crazy how low car has been taking over high car lol. As I got a little older I began not just buying parts bc they were the "best" one, began doing my research. Really loving this Z series guys, thank you!
I feel like its because theyre actually putting quality budget parts now instead of the sketchiest cheapest shit they find on ebay. Which is good because i thought season 1 lowcar was ruined
Maybe its just me but I'm still upset they did low car dirty when they did the brake upgrade as low car should of went with a set of used factory Brembos. This would of given them a set of dual pistons in the rear and options for a few different sets of drift pads. As the only ones for the stock calipers would be ebc or project mu pads but I have a feeling they didn't go with something like that.
I like how we're just supposed to ignore that this video happened at the same time as the last one but we weren't supposed to notice the new hand brakes
Should have went and even cheaper route and disconnect the rear brakes from the master cylinder and hook your e-brake up to what's there that also allows your pedal to only hit the front brakes so you can do sick burnouts
Only 3 high low videos. I like how clean it was but I wish there was more on the swap. I’m getting ready to do a swap of my own. And I really like how everything of there season was a mess or stress and trying times. But that’s what working on cars is.
