Hey Kramer, I watched your review, but I bought this bow because I am getting back into archery and didn't want to go to expensive. However I ordered the bow directly from TopArchery and they took your adjustments to heart. They added felt to the riser connections to quite the bow and added felt to the area where the bow string connects to bow. All in all it quite and works great, they were listening.

I enjoy your reviews; you are fair and accurate in your assessments. I wanted to have a light draw bow around for relaxation. A little cotton, some textile material, a decut arrow rest, and some beaver pelt improve the bow quite a bit, and it's always fun to customize a bow a bit if it needs it.

Hey Kramer! i have had and used this bow for recurve hunting and backyard target shooting for about a year and a a half now. It's not the bow I learned on, my first bow was actually a bear grizzly that i unfortunately shot too close to a tree whilst hunting. However, so far the the toparchery has been my favorite! Let me tell you why, and I'd also like to say that I am in no way affiliated with the company. So, when I purchased the bow, I purchased the 50lb option. At my draw length of 30" it's about 62lbs, so I think the limbs are all slightly heavy. I shoot 600gr. arrows with a very high FOC with helical turkey feather fletchings, nothing special. I shoot heavy arrows because just as yours did, my chrono showed a consistent 170-180FPS at 10GPP, it is a fast little thing. My Grizzly shot at 165fps. I find this bow to (after some modifications) be significantly superior to other sub-$200 recurves, and absolutely the best option when you're getting on the crazy cheap end of the scale. First of all, scrap the string. The thing only lasts about 500 shots anyways. I replaced my initial dacron string with a 16 strand fastflight flemish twist string and almost immediately it seemed to be shooting much faster. I was right, chronographed at 190. It was a bit of a gamble because i didn't know for sure how well prepared the limb tips were for a lower stretch string. I shoot 150 shots a day to stay sharp, and I've had it for almost exactly 18 months so this bow has put up with fast flight just fine for about 81,000 shots give or take 1,000. The noise was an issue. However, it didn't have anything to do with the limb pockets. I sound dampened both, and it was still pretty much just as loud. I stopped using those rests, got myself a basic fabric shelf rest, and I put string dampeners on both the upper and lower parts of the string. Like magic, it was no louder than my Bear had been. I have been shooting off the shelf with Victory V-force SP300 carbon arrows and no plunger. Because my arrow weight is mostly up front (200gr inserts and 100gr points), it dynamically spines out about perfectly leaving the bow right off of the centershot of the shelf. I have a thin strip of felt covering the plunger/sight holes. Bareshaft tuning checks out. As far as comfort goes, I suppose that's subjective. I have long arms and giant hands. I like the way that the metal riser cradles my hand, and its weight helps kill the pre-shot shakes I sometimes get when I'm anxious about making a shot. The narrow handle discourages torquing the bow with fingers, and the rubber grip seems to be holding up just fine. I'm not really in it for comfort, but with the thick gloves I use to shoot with in the winter, it's never bothered me. I'd give it a 6/10. It's no Hoyt superstar, but come on, under $100? I've hunted in rain, snow, freezing Connecticut temps, nothing has bothered it. no warped limbs, no issues, just a string change as necessary and i am all good. I've shot my friends' expensive bows, and they all feel weak and fragile. I can feel the limbs creaking on the pull with the wood-on wood riser and I personally don't enjoy that. I can't think of any good reason to get a more expensive bow. I shoot consistent groups up to 40 yards, and I'd never shoot beyond 25 yards while hunting. Anyways, I hope my experience with the bow can give you some insight if you decide to make another video about this bow!

You think an AMS reel will mount to it? I was thinking an aftermarket rest and a little felt on the limbs where the bowstring touches would quiet it down plenty as well.

I come back to this again as it is one of my favorite bows. Out of the box it wasn’t bad, but your assessment is spot on, good for speed. A few things changed and this bow is well worth it. I put on one of your fast flight strings with silencers, stuck on some limb savers 3.5 inches from limb pockets, added a draw checker and a flipper rest and this is a new bow, easily a good hunter, tree, brush, or ground blind hunting! Good work Kramer!

@@Alizudo I just use Lancaster or 3Rivers. Things that work with bows and individuals are, well, individual. I felt this bow needed to have a new string, I tried an elevated rest but went back to shelf and this baby rocked. Play with brace height and nock points and this is a stunning shooter!

i put felt pads in the limb pockets on my Samick Sage and it's still loud. no string silencers. BUT!!! i love the way it sounds! at 45lbs, it feels very powerful and the sound just adds to that. the arrows are also loud as they fly through the air. it's just a nice experience when shooting targets (i don't hunt). i say this because it's commonly stated that loudness is not a good thing.

So, I recently did some reading about Topoint Archery. Apparently, they are a rebrander seller. It’s a US based company that buys from Chinese manufacturers. I’ve bought three of their bows. (2 M1s and 1 R3) They all did great so far, though I’ve only shot about 2 dozen through the R3 before my bad shoulder got too sore to continue. With that said, I also bought this exact bow under the name of Gonex on Amazon. I know Topoint sells this exact one too. It was so bad we ultimately had to return it.

I own the 50# version. By gluing cotton balls under the takedown points, replacing the string with a fastflight flemish twist, and adding otterballs, it is as quiet as any other recurve I've shot. The arrow rest is awful but can easily be replaced with a mag one. I also painted it olive drab and added a bow quiver and it works quite well for hunting. It isn't a very "fun" bow though, and the vibration is really bad in my opinion after 20 or more shots on the range...

I'm an absolute novice when it comes to woodwork but I came here on a RU-vid wormhole a couple of months ago and ended up doing the same thing! Best project I've taken up by far. Got the string woven by hand as well. That's going to test your patience for sure. But it's well worth it. I've got a small one I'm working on at the moment. I've been messing about with thicknesses of wood for steam bending and I think I've got a shot of being able to bend a full recurve made of sapelee mahogany. Bearing in mind I was literally a dumbass when it came to wood 2 months ago😂😂😂😂😂😂 All the best mate and your in the right place for tips. I've had some great support from the guys and girls on here. What did you set the brace hight at? I was thinking 7.75in and where did you set your nock? I was to the understanding it is a quarter inch above the arrow rest. Hey Kramer I’m looking at a bow on amazon at the moment called by the brand name of “gonex” and it looks almost exactly like this one even with the carry bag. Could you let me know if you’d say that’s the same now different name?
@thecarrot4412
@thecarrot4412 3 года назад
If the bow draw weight is marked to AMO standard length at 28", by drawing it to 27.5 " to the throat of the grip you've actually drawn it to 29.25" AMO . At 2 extra pounds per inch on average (in this case 1.25" over 28") 43.5 lbs is not unreasonable and would be within normal tolerance especially for such a short bow.
@thecarrot4412
@thecarrot4412 3 года назад
@Super Actually I did. He is not measuring the bow to AMO standards. AMO draw length standard is length from string to throat of grip, *+1.75 inches*. The extra 1.75 inches in the measurement is quite important to the standard. He has not measured the bow to the standards and has come up confused about the correct draw weight -as have you.
@thecarrot4412
@thecarrot4412 3 года назад
@Super it's really not AMO, much as you insist. Please search for and check the AMO measurement standards. Let me know if you find where it's being measured per AMO and I'll say I'm wrong, but this isn't even physically possible with the way his draw board is built. It could work out to give AMO with very specific bows but that'll be coincidence, it isn't built to be universally so which I can tell you just by looking at it. I'm sure he makes fine bows by looking at other content, but measurement is not his strong point here.
@thecarrot4412
@thecarrot4412 3 года назад
@Super I did. He doesn't mention AMO. He doesn't mention 1.75 inches past pivot point. He doesn't build the board to measure based on the pivot, instead resting it against the belly of the bow and adding some arbitrary amount. If you genuinely can't show me, and I know how this works, telling me to STFU doesn't make you correct. Have fun with that!

As far as the plastic arrow rest,....if it wears out,.... it takes less than a minute to re-tune it,.... in the field. Metal arrow rests take hours of fiddling. You can improve the Tophat Bow.

With real feathers you can shoot of the riser ( the arrow rest its a screw in so you can take it off, and also can upgrade it, i thing even could add a plunger button) but when shooting from the riser you should put/glue on some padding like leather, fur, or soft side of valcro on the parts that touch the arrow shaft, just to make shure you dont damage it when shooting off the riser, coz you really dont want the arrow shafts directly rub on aluminum with high speed.

@jameshaulenbeek5931
@jameshaulenbeek5931 3 года назад
I asked him in a previous video about a good beginner draw weight... go low. Go very low. 45 lbs is a lot to draw back without having a good form nailed down. A lighter bow will allow you to learn good technique and retain it. Once you've got that, start working up and applying that to heavier draw bows. Get a 25 lbs draw weight bow, and go from there.

The draw length weight at 28" should be done from the string to the front of riser so what you did was ad an extra inch to the draw length , hence the extra few pounds
@IndianaBows
@IndianaBows 3 года назад
Exactly. Maybe the three extra pounds was because the extra draw lenght that he made measuring from the bottom of riser.

At a 30in draw, you'll want a 68in bow as per Kramer's board bow spec sheet. I can't give you recommendations on what to get just though. I've made all of my longbows.
@gabrielwickline315
@gabrielwickline315 3 года назад
In all honesty, If you are getting a modern laminated bow, you can get away with a 60" reflex deflex longbow, like the black hunter longbow variant. My draw length is 30.75 to 31", depending on my consistency. That said, I have a Black Hunter longbow and it shoots pretty smooth. It starts to stack a bit at 29", but of you are going with a 40# or 45# bow, you should have no issues. That all said, if you are going for a traditional D-shaped longbow, I'd say 66"minimum, or you will really feel it stacking and that takes a lot of the pleasure out of the shot.

Have a look at the black hunter there everywhere on eBay and Amazon and go by different names but they are all made in the same factory then shipped out to stockists to put there name and brand on theses black hunter bows are brilliant mate .

I disagree with you on where you should measure the draw length. The front face of the riser is where the straw length is measured so when you pull it back on your jig it should be to the front not the grip.
