We've got a jam-packed workday tackling multiple projects around Lake James! ⛵️ We start the day by getting the crew set up on a new cart path project. After making sure the crew is off to a strong start, we head out to price digging some perc holes.
Next, we meet up with one of our star operators, Cody, at a brand-new job site. Together, we plan out septic lines and design a long, scenic walking path down to the lake. We also have a meeting with the architect to discuss the project's finer details. We also have an unexpected encounter with an injured raccoon?
After that, it's back to the perc holes site to walk Cody through the plan, ensuring he's all set to finish up the work by the end of the day.

I got 40 acres in cabarrus county, custom home build, pond put in…this is why i just bought my own equipment. $90k for a cart path… I got a 2022 308 and 2023 svl97 with grapple and fecon This was after i had a guy quote me $29k for mulching and grading a half acre that i had already cleared all the large timber from.. Im watching the videos of local businesses because im retired at at 42 and im debating starting a grading/clearing company called “undercutters excavation” because all my equipment is paid for, in full and i dont need the cash, but yall taken advantage of out of state transplants..contractors googled my home sale price, they want to come and get a payday. Everything was $10k. Electrician to install a subpanel to my pond, $10k, 1800sqft slab for my shop, $39000 was an actual quote, for 4”, 3500 psi with no rebar… Be on the lookout, undercutters is gonna undercut yall.

I do a lot of work and after all, if you do the math one small machine like yours will cost you about 50$/hour to run. 50 bucks before you break even on the machine, then you want 50 for yourself (don’t forget taxes) and 20 for the rest. Comes out to 120/hour I would charge at least. Trailer and Truck time should be twice that and once a dump truck is involved cost explodes! Trust me any less then that is not worth your time, you’ll lose money and that’s only if you get paid by the hour. If you do bids you need to think big or you will lose your head quick, there is no way you can put in cheap bids and not either lose money or do a crappy job because you don’t have X-ray and don’t know what’s in the ground or the weather next week that’s why it’s so difficult to price it cheaply. What if you hit utilities, machine breakdown etc bad material, bedrock it all happens so it’s advisable to bid higher. The only way to undercut without losing your head is to be extremely good at what you are doing. Like if you can grade MORE then 1 kilometer of 12ft wide gravel road with your excavator in one day, turn 1 mile of rough gravel into the Autobahn in 10 hours. Smooth as if a grader did it, absolutely perfect compaction, crown and ditches - So perfect, that a hand rake could only make it worse! If you can do that with an excavator or maybe both then you are probably good enough to seriously undercut people in the grading business but I haven’t seen many that can do it like that and you need a ton of experience in order to be consistent. Like you are good enough when you can level concrete with your bucket on the first swoop, get the work done without laser and spread 10 yards of gravel 600 ft long in one hour, then you can offer half price and still come out on top. Either way its 70$/hour and you do the work for free, 120$/h and you can afford dinner. As a company I might have to pay 4 people, the boss and the office btch plus materials, no you see how you end up with a few grand/day to run a crew just to break even. But on the bright side you get professionals and experience, it’s expensive if you can’t do it yourself. Good luck! And you know whats really expensive? Government paid jobs, prevailing wage. Ridiculous haha. I had quite a few days in the last year where we got paid between 20 and 30.000$ in a single day, for the work my crew of 4 did with a backhoe, a 5 ton digger and a few shovels in 10 hours digging a little 3 ft trench 😅 but we are kicking ass too nobody expected us to be that fast. Too bad I’m employed 😅

Is that the same 3500 truck that you had you just put a flatbed on it

Sure is, swapped a service bed on it so it'd be a little more useful for what we do.
