It's time for another of my projects to get done and sold, This Renault Clio 182 has been sat and left to rot for years! Its hopefully a quick turn around and I can get it ready for sale. Enjoy and leave a cheeky like if you can x.
Keep at it Paul, honestly this channel is golden. It has all the ingredients to be a powerhouse on RU-vid. I won't miss an episode - just need them algorithms to kick in 👍
Absolute hero doing that cam belt without dropping the engine out, most specialists do so and charge you £600 odd for the faff. Finding a 182 even in bad nick for £100 is unheard of too these days, you're lucky to get one for less than £2k running. Get this one up to good shape and you can sell it for £5k as long as the milage is below 100k miles, but once you drive it you wont want to sell it. They're excellent, love mine
Very common VVT Dephaser Pulley issue. Done quite a lot of these through the years and yes you are correct, they make a lot more noise once the engine warms up. It’s still One of the best engines to ever grace Renault.
@K You're having a go at some for bad grammar. Look at yours. Starting with a lower case and not ending with a full stop. You are just a hypocritical idiot.
Love the videos lads, shame they’ve dried up recently. Appreciate it’s a passion of love for some of these cars but get them out in the market place, we all know it’s rare you’ll get all the invested money back but there’s people out there who will give you some good money knowing the detailed builds….plus theres those that want everything for nothing of course.
I learned to drive in a black standard 1.2 Clio of the same year. I don’t think I will ever NOT want one of these, early 2000 hatch back styling was great, but Renault really smashed it at this period. The performance Clio and performance megane’s are still some of the coolest looking things on the road (even if they are a little rare now!) Got a sub instantly!
Keep going with channel Paul. I really enjoy your videos. Miss kieth. Hope he can make odd guest appearance. You have plenty of support on here so keep going
Sorry to hear about your financial situation. I miss Kieth, loved to watch his expertise and the results of his fine work. Won’t you try to restore a classic left hand drive car to sell it on the continent or in the US?
Good to see a new video, shame keith is no longer with you ,he really had some skills on the paint side, And what happened to the other projects ,ie the escort camper van
This video was the first video I watched on your channel and it definitely wont be the last. Great video, really enjoyed watching it with because it was soo calm without any music or distraction. Keep at it!
That looks great with the gold wheels. Just looking at one of these as a future classic as last of the old 90’s style hot hatches, had one a few years ago but never blew me away like the 197 did. But that’s the best one in black I’ve seen, good choice on wheel colour
RU-vid brought me here, 1st video I've ever seen, you've done a great job on production, quality and presenting. I was amazed at how much you threw at the car, would have liked to have seen more investigation before you decided to refurb wheels, cambelt and service, but hey it works. Anyway I've subscribed and will be going back over old videos, will be interesting.
What a little bargain!, great stuff. Solving that rattle from the engine was satisfying, I love it when someone ditches/abandons something when the fix is really quite simple. I have gained many electrical goods down to popped fuses, loose wires or a 30p component on a board that has failed. I've always told the client/the giver, I have fixed it, do you want it back for a small fee?, most if not all, have said, "keep it"....nice.
Loved the video....would have liked to see more of a breakdown of fitting the new parts etc. You need to do a collaboration with Mat Armstrong....get those subscriber numbers right up then....sack the job off ha. Keep up the good work.
Sorry to hear that Keith isn't part of it currently, chatted to him at the NEC and what a lovely bloke. Hope you can carry on and get through the tough times, you deserve every success with it. Keep going mate 👍
Great video. I’ve just come across this video because I’ve just bought a Clio 172 in a similar, so this has been really helpful. Will be watching part two.
Back in the day I had a Clio 172 cup. It had a performance exhaust and aftermarket air filter and one thing I remember about it was it sounded a bit like a diesel strangely. It was a really fun car to drive in the dry, in the wet it was dangerous lol.
As soon as I heard your description of the noise and heard it I had a good idea that it was the dephayser pulley. Done a lovely job of bringing the car round. The wheels look fantastic! You’ve gained a sub from me
Great to have you back even if it's only half the team. Things have gotten so hard for everyone at the moment and things have to change so sorry it's at the cost of Keith not being with you anymore but hopefully things will improve and he will be able to join you again I do wish him and you of course all the best and can't wait for the next video.
I used to own a phase one 172 Clio. Really nice to see this 182 project. The dephaser pulley is a common weak point. I’d recommend Ferodo DS2500 pads all round and Brembo high carbon front discs from K Tec racing. Also fit a Powerflex dogbone bush kit to stop the engine kicking back under hard acceleration and a K Tec engine mounting kit. Michelin Pilot sport 4 tyres are great on these cars. It should give decent power on the rolling road. Probably around 177-179 bhp as it’s a 182. My 172 gave 167 bhp after a remap. They’re huge fun to drive.
I knew that noise would be gone after you changed the cam belt roller tensioner pulley.Makes sense to change those components when its been stood so long.I was thinking a flat bronze would look good on the wheels but the gold contrasts nicely with the black.Dont see many of those Clios about.Nice car.Good video.
Soon as it started up I though "that's the dephaser" My Clio 172 did exactly the same shortly after buying it. Ended up removing the engine to do the belts and dephaser, and using genuine renault timing tools only come strongly recommended....they run like a bag of spanners if you get the timing even a bit out. Enjoyed watching this
New subscription from me mate. Love your no nonsense style. Can't believe you've not got 10x more subscribers to be honest! Look forward to more videos 👍🏻
Nice video. Have a soft spot for these having owned a few back in the day. First thing I said when I heared the rattle was 'do the cambelt and dephaser'. They're surprisingly bomb proof these cars - I would know, I've tried to kill enough of them. The last one I had I sold far too cheap and for what I go for it, should've just stuck in my parents garage for future me to revive.
First time watching one of your videos. Keep up the great work. I used to have a car just like this and changed the engine on my driveway because the cambelt snapped. I know your pain. 👍
Bro, don’t be disheartened! First video I’ve watched from you and now a sub! That’s rare for me! Keep at it, streamlining the channel is fine! This was top content!
I'm new to the channel and glad I found it! Would be good to see more detail of the fixing process as well as the wash etc. Great job though, looking forward to more!
I'm 10 minutes in and I'm hitting subscribe. I like your style. So calm and not show offy as some other channels do these days. Looking forward for the next videos!
Glad you're back. Very sorry to hear about the other guys though. Best wishes to all of them. The Clio 182 is a very cool car, it'll be interesting to see how many gee gees are still there.
I’m not really a car person, but I love channels that are well produced like yours! Really interesting to learn new things and presented in an accessible, friendly manner. Keep up the good work mate, you’ve gained a sub.
I am so glad you found the dephaser issue I was trying to tell you through my phone at the start it prob that and when you said you was going to change it I went phew😂.
Keep going man your content is so clear cut and precise, there's no fakery or unnecessary fluf. You really know your stuff, your videos will definitely do better in time ! Keep it up
