In this video we take a look at a popular budget 2 man tent, the Naturehike Cloud Peak 2 and compare it to the more premium and pricey Hilleberg Allak 2. The difference in cost between the two tents is vast but is the cloud peak 2 a worthy wild camping tent for a fraction of the price?
Thanks for watching

Good call. I'm 90% introvert on the Myers Briggs test. Not having to mix with people was great to begin with. I'm feeling it now. Extroverts in small households must be exhausted from bouncing off the walls. Few more weeks and GB and Ireland can be glad of having water around them. There's plenty to see/do in both places. Good assessment of the tents. Both designed in finer detail for specific markets. I've seen the one man sleep only tents used by hikers wgen camping with my kids. Don't think I could use one without being claustrophobic. Ironic in remote places. And I thought garden camping was to let the kids think they're having an adventure alone but you're really keeping an eye. Lol

Totally agree Hazo. The cloud peak is an impressive tent for the money. Great design. The only things I’ve noticed is that when it rains, an open door exposes the inner which can get a bit wet if you’re not quick. Obviously it’s not as good in the wind as the hilleberg, but the cloud peak is mine and the mrs’s go to humble abode when up in the hills. Big hugs mate

I am so pleased I purchased the Naturehike Cloud Peak 2. There are two internal pockets in the Cloud, one is very large mesh type mounted higher. The cloud peak 2 is very stable in high winds. (longer pegs are a must). There are two ceiling mesh vents, I have never had a problem with condensation. Both models allow water entry into the bath tub from the entry points. ( a cheap hack is to hot glue two extensions on the hood entry points with ties on the front corners for those miserable days when rain appears). The cloud peak 2 is 120cm at one end and 130cm at the other end. The Cloud Peak 2 is a much better option if you are hiking (weight wise). The Hilleberg Allak 2 is ridiculously over priced in comparison. From my experience the Allak 2 does not perform any better in mountain snow storms. Thanks for the great review.

I think that was a great Tent talk & I enjoy those. For most people I don’t think spending £1100 is realistic atm. But when we’re all suffering cabin fever, and you can get out for £200 after we’re set free again. I think that’s the way a lot of people will be going. Even people who have never camped/hiked are longing for the freedom of nature. For me, the sky is my happy place. So whenever I’m underneath it, or watching it, I’m a happy lady. I have a Soulo and bought the Allak as a one-man option when I want a little more room. Winter camps especially. For me - the extra security you get from a Hilleberg is worth the cost. Ok, it's a lot of money.....but it will last 20 years if you look after it. £50-ish quid a year. To me, that's decent value.

I have that nostalgic attachment to my old cheap Eurohike 2 man dome tent which I still have. I lived in it for 2 months on an ocean cliff top in Cornwall in winter. Nothing extreme, but there were many bad windy and rainy nights. It held up pretty well and never leaked. Condensation was sometimes an issue, but for a £50 tent it was amazing!

Great vid and loved your thoughtful empathic ending. I think Hilleberg’s Rogen is actually the equivalent, at least in intended use. It’s three season, uses more mesh than the Allak2, is same weight as Cloudpeak - but still costs £600 more. The waterproofness of the materials between H and C are very different, and the breaking strength of materials. But for most people in low elevations they don’t need the Hilleberg’s strength. But I think we all need its longevity otherwise your tent will likely end up in landfill (or some people just abandon their broken tent on the hillside). Good wages and conditions for staff, and a comprehensive lifetime warranty, do cost...

When I was researching tents and balking at the prices of great tents my dear wife said that I should divide the price of the tent by the number of comfortable nights sleep over the lifetime of the tent. Sound advice. I've slept comfortably over many nights where other people have got sodden tents and beds.

That alkak is jus gorgeous. I’m saving for a soulo since winter camping is new to me but I wanna get a larger tent to go to the north coast beaches and the allak3 is the beastie I’ve decided to get due to the turbulent winds. In the meantime I’m using a vango 300. It does the job but it’s quite large for just me and I don’t like sharing with mates. At £200 that tent might be a horrible term solution to my problem. Plus I can loan it to mates who don’t have camping gear when I get a mortgage for the hilleberg 🙄. Another great review mate 👍🏻

As Red and Black Hillebergs are designed to withstand strong wind they are actually pretty terrible for ventilation. The Cloud-Peak is a bit draughty in wind but that means great ventilation in summer.

Good review and lots of good comments. Triggers some thoughts. I live in Canada and have camped in the Maritimes, northern British Columbia, Algonquin Park Ontario, but also Maine mountains, the White Mountains of New Hampshire., and in Alaska including on glaciers. I feel the main reason one buys Hilleberg is for 4 season use, meaning actual winter use, and in my uses it can mean a dump of 2-4 feet of snow overnight. You will need to get up and shovel off and around your tent a few times. But the tent needs to withstand a few feet of snow which can be wet and heavy and or turn to ice and plus wind. I could only be comfortable in a Hilleberg or something very close (I've given my Moss to a daughter). On a glacier trip for 3 of us we took two 3-man tents, as we were worried one might get shredded in the wind over some divides (it didn't). I can tell that NatureHike would not qualify, although may be fine for less serious weather. I've also done sustained serious rain and wind for much of a week other than winter (sun as the Olympic National Seashore). Never had a Hilleberg for that, but after a number of days, I would have probably been dreaming about one :-) And in the worse conditions, the price issue vanishes. As you point out, also a factor is how much you hike - sometimes I ask myself "how much is that per kilometre?" The other big factor is the nature of the place you hike. You can withstand pretty server weather if you are mainly in forests or other protection. But in your unforested mountains, alpine zones, tundra, and glaciers, you don't have that protection - hence a tougher tent. In the Hilleberg, advantage includes better ventilation than most to deal with condensation - can be quite a serious factor on multi-day trips. Key con issue with Hilleberg tends to be weight. On the snow when not too mountainous, sometimes including glaciers, one can ski or snowshoe and pull gear on a pulk (sled), so heavier gear is ok. Trollheimen Svalbard, 12 days skiing - RU-vid Now I have also done non-winter long distance hikes and try to carry quite light gear, for instance Z-Packs dynemo tents. Try to pitch in a relatively protected area from wind. Serious rain - well, maybe just suck it up; do the best you can. Warmer weather, you will probably be able to dry things out at some point. If you also cary a light weight dynamo tarp and lots of cord, that may let you rig additional protection and also a fairly dry place to cook. Regards.

I bought my main tent, Norrøna Ravneskar, back in 1985 at the age of 16. I spent my entire summer earnings on it. I would say that back in those days Norrøna tents was considered among, if not the best tent brand you could get, used by explorers and expeditions all over the world. I guess the same status that Hilleberg have today among hikers. Anyway, I still have and use my Norrøna tent. Quality seems to last. Norrøna can still be contacted for service if needed. It's not modern or fancy in any way, but it have been a good investment.

Dude! I really like your style! I will often pitch a tent in my back garden and just sit in it. And the favourites DO make me tingle with anticipation! If any of my neighbours find it weird, they never say so. The only thing to prevent a tent pitching lately hjas been totally frozen ground, down several inches, and now my only level ground is saturated as things thaw out. Life in the far NW of Scotland. But - my original Hilly Nallo 2 (C1995), Akto, and Exped Orion 2 (as their rough equivalent to the Allak ie. 3-pole semi-geo design) are my tingle-factor tents, associated with many years of trips, and some month-long ones too ie. Scottish Highlands for a month some years ago with my Akto. I never thought I would feel comfy in quite a small tent (I'm 6' and 90kg) but I was in heaven, with almost no rain for the whole 4 weeks. Really. I suppose, had I been zipped right in for a month of what Scotland can and often does throw at you, it might have been a different story. The Exped is a brilliant tent, as weather tight as the Allak, but lower tear-rating (no actual figures offered), the need to seam-seal one or two places to be certain you would remain dry, and being a bugger to pitch in high winds, means the 10/10 I would give any Hilleberg would only be an 8 for the Exped. The other thing - the pole sleeves are really 'clingy' when wet, so repeated pitching day after day is a bugger. Hillebergs' ease of pitching is legendary, among those that know, and the sense of quality, everywhere, does not let you down. The Cloud Peak doesn't have full solid inner fabric either, so in a blow it is draughty, don't you think? Keep up the good work, and let's get out there, all of us, as soon as we're allowed!

Alright haze, great video. I’ve got both the Naturehike cloud up 2 and recently took delivery of the cloud peak 2. I took the little cloud up 2 up onto kinder scout in December before lockdown where winds all night were around 35mph and the tent stood solid all night, I’m looking forward to taking out the cloud peak 2 when we can. I would definitely say you can take the Naturehike tents out in mid winter but no more than 35mph winds I would say. I got my cloud peak 2 for £118 on AliExpress

Great review mate, you’ve been my go to fella these last few months having really only got into the wild camping, bushcraft the last 12-18months so thanks for the inspiration, passion 👍🏼 I have been looking at this tent for a while having got a Vango scafell but totally agree £1000 plus is a WOW moment for a tent🤪😜. £1100 for a tent ⛺ 😳 ... ok if you've never camped before and your brand new and want to start, for £1100 you can kit yourself out with a Tent, Cooking & Sleeping System, Bushcraft tools ie Knife Axe etc, Back Pack and more, enough said. I firmly believe quality kit does have its place, but not for this tent. Good Balanced Review 👌

mate. great vid. I haven't got 200 quid for a tent. I'm going for the multi day unit with the hiking poles . v2 . Ali poles are only goo for ltd use. Great review. These tents are great contenders for weekenders but not for the lone fox who does multi day expeditions. Love the fungarium , peace out. Twit from the Owl , Call from the buzzard, laugh from the woodpecker Song of the sky lark, Poo Poo of the wood Pigeon, Cack Cack of the Magpie, Short break of the Pheasant, Glimpse of a Wren, Boldness of the Robin, Agility of the Kite, Allusive like a Hobby, Invisibility of the Merlin. lots more birds to explain about - so i wish you good night

I have sent in one of my tents and a tarp to Hilleberg for repair. The cost was ridiculously cheap, the most expensive part was the postal costs. That service is part of the cost and I have had other tents but the quality of the Hilleberg tents are just so much higher.

I’ve wrecked so many cheap tents (9) over the last 20 years I wish I had bought a top quality tent in the beginning. I now use my jrc 2 man fishing bivvi it’s a lot bigger case when packed up and heavier though. I do get condensation issues inside if I don’t leave the door wide open but I don’t walk too far with mine

Very good comparison of the 2 tents 👍Both have been on my radar for a while now. 4 season definitely not required in my neck of the woods as we only have 2 seasons - bloody hot and bloody hot and wet 🌩 . We're on lockdown version 2.0 over here as well but cases and Covid deaths far less than over in the UK.. stil bloody scary though 😨. Stay safe 😷ATVB from a Brit expat now living in sunny Malaysia 😎😷🇲🇾
