Is it possible to feed your family for £12.50 each for a whole week of breakfasts, lunches, snacks and dinners???
After an old video was in the press for feeding your family on a budget I had a lot of comments to say this wasn't possible - I get it, food shopping is extortionate at the moment, I've struggled so much to keep our meals of the week on budget. But, it spurred me on to try and create this content again for you and to show you that feeding your family on a budget of just £12.50 per person is still possible - it just takes A LOT of meal planning and grocery prices research!
I have been able to shop for healthy, nutritious food to feed the family for £50 per week - I hope this inspires you to do the same if you're trying to live your best life on a budget!!

Just a quick tip, you shouldn't keep open tins of food in the fridge as the tin or the iron can dissolve into your food giving it a metallic taste and even more so with acidic food like tomatoes and tinned fruit.

I feed my family on £200 a month but we do a 2weekly shop instead of a week. As we found it worked out better for us. But it definitely can be done, and my daughter has a milk and gluten allergy. Great video.

This is exciting!! Top tips- go food shopping as little as possible, and never when hungry or upset take cash (with a small buffer if you can), if you can, register for scan and shop and see how much you are spending before checkout Allow yourself a treat choice (even just 1 pkt of biscuits) For fresh fruit and veg get some 'stayfresh longer' bags from Lakeland or on Amazon. These absorb ethylene gas and make produce last ages. I use each bag for weeks at a time You've inspired me to meal plan better with what we've got in the freezer and cupboards. Thanks

Have you tried red lentils as an alternative to veggie mince? I started doing it a while back because I could never find veggie mince in the affordable places. It obviously takes a little longer to cook (but I have a pressure cooker to speed that up!), but one one bag lasts ages and it tastes really good. Bravo for educating people on how to shop affordably. It would be great to see you do a Lidl shop and compare the quality and price! I find that I can do my shop cheaper in Lidl's.

So nice to see a video of an intelligent mother who knows how to shop savvy and seems like a great Mum. Very inspiring watch. Your children seem so happy. We do the Aldi shop and spend ridiculous amounts, and it's only me, my partner and our son who is almost 16 months so this was helpful. Will like and subscribe as the Internet is full of such stupid people but I really resonated with this. ♥

Fab video...I started to reuse the end of the spring onions & little gem lettuce to regrow them (cut slice off thinly the end of the stalk), put them both in water and change it gently until you see them sprout....within a week you can repot. I also use oat milk instead of coconut milk and still so creamy.

Loved this video! Super helpful. I’m going to try to plan my spending like this before I head out . I totally agree about patent and child spaces. But two of my closest friends are both disabled, one with MS (32 years old) one with fibromyalgia (29 years old). You could walk past them and think not a thing was wrong with them, they’re young, beautiful girls. Amber will often hop around with a smile on her face, life and soul of a party. But some days it’s just painful for her to put a bra on and she needs a cane to walk. We often park with their badges in the disabled spaces as it’s easier on them both just to not have to walk as far. Some days they would 100% need it say If they had to use a walker or wheelchair where their disability would be obvious. But other days it just just about making their life that tad bit easier and could save them some pain. But again, put us in a line up, you’d never guess the sick ones. It totally made me rethink disabled spots. I’ll never judge anyone pulling into them because you simply don’t know. Big shout out respect to the hidden disability warriors out there 🙌❤️✨
@LaraJoannaJarvis
@LaraJoannaJarvis 4 года назад
I wholeheartedly agree! This is more regarding the young couple without a child in the car taking the last parent space when there were loads of free spaces available and lots of other times I see things like this happening. I agree it's very difficult for those without a visible disability but I'm glad those with non visible disabilities are able to apply for a blue badge as it must have been frustrating before they introduced that to not be able to show that they have a limiting condition. I'm also so sorry for your lovely friends, I hope they are ok and can manage their pain for the most part 😔 thanks for your comment! Xx

Just wanted to have a little moan about the comment made about people ‘clearly not being disabled.’ My dad is partially sighted and registered as legally blind. He doesn’t use a stick but wears sunglasses and a hat. He isn’t ‘obviously’ disabled but has a blue badge. Same as my brother! Not all disabilities are visible. Please don’t judge people who use disabled spots.
@LaraJoannaJarvis
@LaraJoannaJarvis 4 года назад
Thanks for your comment. If he has a blue badge this is definitely not the people I am referring to - even hidden disabilities are now entitled to a badge which is a great move because I know it is awful when people who don't "look disabled" are judged. More to those who hop skip and jump into the gym after parking in a nearer disabled spot and taking it away from someone who needs it. :)

Lara Joanna Jarvis Ah okay I understand you! I didn’t know if that’s what you meant in the video as this was my first time on your channel, and I find reading people hard at first! Thanks for not taking my comment rudely, as I didn’t mean it to come across as rude as it did :( It infuriates me also when people take spaces when they aren’t entitled to them. I’m subscribed to you now also ☺️

Food in the UK is surprisingly quite cheap depending on what you buy. Frozen veg, lentils, sardines, pasta, rice, organ meats, oats, bag potatoes , eggs are all just "basic" food but it goes along way and does so many different recipes. Even chicken thighs are cheaper than breast if want mean

I hate car parks at the best of times and agree with your rant. I got tooted the other week for allowing someone to reverse out of the parking bay. Seems like being courteous is rude and wrong for some people 😳. Back to your food shop. Meal planning makes things so much easier especially during these crazy times. I hate how the prices have hiked up during this pandemic as it makes budgeting difficult at times. Stay safe and well 🤗🌻

Very good. Without doubt the majority of people in the UK either eat too much or buy too much and throw it away. There is nothing wrong with having beans on toast as a meal twice a week. Follow it with a chopped banana and ice cream or yoghurt. Like most things you have to put the effort in to get the best results. Aldi and Lidl are excellent shops a long as you aren’t fussy on brands. Lidl digestive biscuits are better than McVities and are cheaper.

Excellent haul. I like to be really organized and meal plan too. It's interesting you mentioned having stomach issues after going completely plant based for a while. I've been vegetarian for a couple of years and decided to go plant based. I very quickly had stomach issues (severe cramps, bloating to the point of looking pregnant, and having to literally run to the loo). It was extremely unpleasant. I went back to my vegetarian diet and symptoms cleared immediately. X

You could make biscuits and cakes for treats and desert. It's cheaper and healthier. I make pumpkin and spice cake, carrot and nut cake, banana loaf.. So extra fruit and veggies for the kids. Oats are high in iron.. I make flapjacks and more often fridge chocolate and nut oatmeal cakes ...quick, easy, filling, cheap and better for you :) Also buy plain yogurt in big pots because it is cheaper and more health.. Then put in bowl and add fresh or frozen fruit... Then I add some honey for the kids they need it.. But my kids have got used to non sweetened over the years.. Sometimes I add dark chocolate drops or mini meringue as a treat. your custard, rice pudding etc.. You can buy the rice, UHT Single cream and you have milk (any type) .. And make it yourself... Cheaper and way healthier..because not full of sugar . Just some alternative ideas I do which would reduce your cost more.

Yes the parent spaces enrage me we have a 3 door and 2 children in carseats and normal spaces are a nightmare. Especially since the seat on my husbands side is broke so you have to get both kids out from the passanger side I was assuming lara meant people who park in disabled spots who don't have a disabled badge and isn't judging people based on how they look as lara doesn't appear to be that type of person 🤷‍♀️

Oh yes, absolutely! I do believe those with invisible disabilities have been able to apply for a blue badge since last summer so hopefully this counteracts any issues that would cause those with invisible disabilities. This was more about those who park in parent spaces when they don't even have a child in the car which is frustrating for those who do actually need the extra space. Particularly when there are a number of available spaces they could use x

It’s so annoying & unfair, my hubby has a disabled badge & at Christmas this women drove straight into the disabled bay & went into the Range, I was so annoyed I wrote a note to put on her windscreen but as I was about to I noticed a man sat in the car, I opened the door & gave him what for, they obviously didn’t have a badge.

I bulk buy cleaning stuff - way cheaper than stores . Cost me €2 a week for eco floor cleaner , one eco egg is 210 washes a year, one large bottle of washing liquid that I refill into my bottles by the sink . I got a moon cup many years ago so never need buy sanitary products . I use bleach for toilets and sick messes , disinfectant for toothbrushes and my moon cup . I only buy toilet rolls /bleach in my food shop keep costs down . Works so much better when bulk buy 5/10 litres instead to refill yourself. I’m a single parent so I do like to budget and quality matters to me.

It's been really hard to get plants and even seeds this year. I got some from Thompson and Morgan last year. I got three different varieties to extend the season. If you have enough space you get more plants as shoots come up beside the plants.

I agree wholeheartedly about parking spaces ! I once saw a young man park in the last mother and child spot jump out and go into the gym .I found a spot and saw a young mum struggling with twins in car seats . Made my blood boil I hadn't been able to catch up with the able bodied gym addict obviously too far for him to walk 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

It's ironic, £50 a week on food and she spent 3X on her colour job..... Really? And platinum rings to boot.

Save on the little things to make the big things happen is my motto....like wedding bands that last a lifetime?? And I hadn't had my hair done for 18 months and it doesn't cost that much anyway so please feel free to educate yourself before commenting so passive aggressively.
