@@liamburnett5307 yeah 'Wee Man' is a great film (I've got it on DVD) for a look into how some of these guys start watch 'Neds', it's about Glasgow knife gang youngsters (I'll admit that I struggled to understand what they were saying a fair bit of the time, I'm shite with accents haha!) but that also a pretty scary story that shows how things can escalate badly. The Scottish gangland books are incredible reads (just like the books about Irelands gangland, usually written by Paul Williams) But you cant beat hearing about the local underworld, the only case I have thats local to me was The Essex Boys (Range Rover/Rettendon Murders) but it all literally happened all around me so its was incredible reading and thinking 'I remember that happening' and the fact that I knew a couple of the people talked about that hadn't been named. Plus through my work I'd met one of the main characters in the story (one of the murderers!) It really brings clarity and makes it kinda more personal.

I listened to the podcast version and wot a fantastic listen. I subscribe to more podcasts than I care to admit to (I work alone lol) and this is one of the best I’ve listened to period,in any genre. Shaun you’ve nailed your method of interviewing,u let the guest talk and tell his story only interjecting wen necessary. If Ian has appeared on JRE within 20 minutes Joe wud be rattling in bout mushrooms weed and comedy being in a special time. I read all the Glasgow crime books back in the day,Tam McGraw,Thompson,Ferris etc and I’ll be getting this one too. Great episode, can’t thank you both enough from north east UK.

Blink, a f'kn legend in my lifetime! He would drop you in the "blink" on an eye. Living in the North of England and West Coast of Scotland and these guys where a pure class of their own.... Glasgow back in the 80's was a place I loved going to....but you never relaxed up there...ever! *Edit. Just finished the whole show....it was awesome to hear of Blinks lifeafter 91 as I knew nothing of it at all other than his arrest and conviction for the bank heist. For me, I never met the man but in my circle in the 80's he was a byword for dont fck with me. A true young blood back in the day, greatest respect to you Ian and do that book mate, I'm off to purchase the kindle version. And you gotta do the early 80's stuff, that was a dark, deprived, dingy and dangerous time on the West Coast run. Enjoy the peace, parenthood and life ahead and total respect to you for Ma and her soup. Peace Charlie UK 🇬🇧

Good interview but the bit about Perry Wharrie really wound me up. They killed that innocent policeman in my home town. Remember it well when I was a kid. Can’t blame blink for talking about him but it goes to show that glamorising these turds is just wrong. Going to drop some flowers on Frank Mason’s memorial outside the bank tonight. He might have been a copper but he had a family.

I had trouble understanding the Glasgow accent when I started working there. Needed a translator in the first 2 weeks. For fun I had a drive around the Gorbals. Had a drug dealer driving golf balls into the children's play area to clear it out at sunset when playing with my kid. Left a pub shortly after a knife fight kicked off. French guys visiting our company were warned to stay in the hotel, got beaten up in Paisley and got the next flight home. Saw a prostitute that looked like a zombie. Got reactions from locals when out drinking when they realized that I was English, but I didn't give a f*ck so nothing happened. But, I love Glasgow. Fond memories of the people and exploring the countryside etc.
