What a beautiful car. It still looks the business despite its years. You’re going to do a great job I’m sure. Will look forward to future videos on this.
How can a channel with barely 10.000 subs have such nice filming and montage? It’s great to have a found a new RU-vidr who cares for the underdog cars. And it’s a nice bloke, fixing his cars on his driveway, even caring about his neighbours. What a gem, immediately subbed ✅ Thanks Chris, keep up the good work! Really looking forward to your future video’s and I hope to someday watch those hubcaps pop into place 👍🏼
Thank you so much for that, it really means the world. We want to have solid production, we want it to look great for you. I'm overjoyed it's not gone unnoticed.
Great video Chris. Can’t tell you how much I enjoy watching a car emerge from its own garden ecosystem. Even if the Daimler became a £700 driveway ornament, it’s still a lovely thing!
Good afternoon Chris, really looking forward to following this project, my kinda car. Life at the moment doesn't allow for ill advised car purchases, it used to be my hobby to buy big shonky cheap cars no one was stupid enough to touch, one of the last ones being a Jag 92 Xj12 I bought for 1200 quid, lovely, wofty and powerful........it caught fire. All the best mate.
- a quick word to say how much I have been enjoying your RU-vid films especially the little ZR 👍💛 amazing what £200 quid & a bit of elbow grease gets you! Keep up the good work looking forward to all the Daimler happenings! Best Steve
I bought from Aldi's last year a £19.99 pressure washer and what a little gem it is too, plenty of oomph for a car clean, comes with a snow cannon thingy the only downer was not a very long flex but fittings very easy to fix up a hose to and I am quite pleased for £20. Its lasted too, expecting it to die a cheapness early death but just finished blasting the moss from outside on the path and windowsills giving the windows a good blasting as well on the flat.
My dad had an X308 XJ8 in the same colour, was my favourite car. If it wasn’t for the fact I can’t really afford to maintain one i’d love an XJR of the same era with the mesh grille.
I own a Black and Chrome 1998 Jaguar XJR supercharged 4.0L V8 with a black leather interior with wood and it comes with all books and an old cell phone that can have if you want. Fully loaded with all options including the head light spray complications and an extra front windshield defroster and heated back seats. A REAL GEM!!!! It was first purchased in Sarina Ontario Canada on April 8th, 1998. I’m currently having the timing chains all replaced. It is located in Canada. Best regards, From Greg P.s. I love your video I’m open for offers
Really looking forward to this project I'm glad this Daimler is getting saved it was painful to watch that battery powered trying to tackle all that moss
I had one a long time back. It was the V12 version. One owner who had a driver. It was fun going to the petrol station filling up, close the cap and people think your done. oh no walk round and fill the second tank 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Had a few jags in my time….. but only one Daimler😆….(I know it’s just the badge an trim) But saying I own a Daimler has a ring to it…… looks a bargain so far…. I wish you the best of fortune….. good luck 👌🏼
Cool deployment of a Harrington too, the ultimate gentleman's jacket :) My last jag was an XJ40 in the same blue, what an absolute beauty but rear suspension blew up, traction control kept failing and its electrics became very problematic and I was forced to swap it out for something practical a tidy Sierra Ghia estate with a twin cam and the leather interior... today I drive a MK2 Reliant Robin just about the most fun motor ever invented :D
I had an X300 4.0 in a blue colour similar to that, then I had an X308 4.0 in silver. I still remember Jeremy Clarkson singing it's praises. It doesn't seem that long ago. I only sold my 2001 X308 in 2016. I left it in Australia... I still think it is one of the most attractive Jags ever. Hard to believe they now have moss growing on them. One day those cars will be worth a lot of money. They are beginning to go up. This week (Mar 2023) Silverstone auctions have a sea frost silver 2001 x308 3.2 for £7k with only 37,000 miles from new. In a few years you will need to pay over £10k to get even a half reasonable one. I must get another one while I still can. So many happy memories. Possibly my best car ever.
Great watch as normal. Looking forward to seeing the progress you make. A quick question if I may please - how do you find the cordless pressure washer? I have always been a bit dubious of them if I am being honest
It's pretty good. You're not going to blow the barnacles off a ship's hull with it, but for cleaning a car it works a treat. Would be better with a tap hose though, as it soon goes through a bucket of water.
When Jags still looked the part Old Jags are just cool. The styling after this model has never got up to that level,i think. Those days seem to be gone ,never to return. Sadly..Been thinking about buying one myself...But lack of a dry space to put it kept me from it .But hey...never say never. But with some effort, and a bit of money this one should be a winner.Shame that fuel got so expensive. And road tax (here in Holland)makes owning one not too economical(aka you paying stupid amounts even when you dont drive it much..which really is very very irritating,...but hey, what can you do??? 🥳😫!!)Good luck!! ps.Just take a saw,and modify your garage door(cut a hole, and build a box to fit around the Jags behind. Its just a few inches..☝️😁)
I don't know why it doesn't have the jaguar hood ornament..beautiful car I have a 1999 jaguar vanden plas it's a work in progress mine has a lot of rust underneath and I going to have to do a lot of welding and fabrication I'm also making a full perimeter chassis for mine to give it strength I love doing stuff like that.
Now you're into proper cars! Haha. She'll do fine. Like you said, the car was a daily before it was parked. Remove the scabs, sort the fuel feed and off she'll go. Cheaper than ze Germans.
Thanks Bill. I have since had it fire on easy start, so I know it does run. Just need to find the willingness to do the pump. I have all the parts though. She will live again.
@@PollittsProjects it's a shame, (for me not you), you've started up full time now. I started Wearin'Bearin's in 2019 but then had to shelve it as I looked at buying a house and everything else that kicked off. Having moved from Essex to Stoke now. If I had a little more spare time and extra Dosh I'd be absolutely interested in working with your channel, especially on Jag/Daimler vehicles. And I'd be down like a shot to help the fuel pump hahaha. Oh well. Maybe in the future hey I'll be keeping an eye out for these uploads. :-)
@@PollittsProjects The Daimler is still the one to have, though. I think the naturally aspirated engine suits it more, too. A whining supercharger seems incongruous somehow
General comment re. cranking it after sitting for a long time - should you at least change the oil before turning it? Or will a few turns on old oil have minimal effect?
Nice one, Chris! I bought a 2002 Jaguar XJ8 VDP (no Daimler version this side of the pond sadly) just over a year ago for $2500 and spent way more than that fixing it up to my standards! Hands down one of the sweetest cars I have ever owned. Can't wait to see what you do with yours.
Colin = Do you have ANY pix of 'her' on the internet we could look at please ?? Pleases me, seeing XJ's still operating, stateside Also, reminds me of Edward Woodward & that T.V series, "The Equaliser" .
Really enjoyed this and the way you've done it, Chris. You're a great presenter. Good to see the G-Shock getting an outing too. Looking forward to next one - subscribed!
Well done for trying to save the old gal Chris, So many have suffered an ignominious death on the banger tracks. Sad how quickly these cars go from being a cherished executives car to a banger in a relatively short time, sign of the times i suppose.
That's a beautiful car, far too nice for the scrapheap or the ovals. Look at that interior! It's heartwarming to see this one given a chance while it's still in that trough-of-no-value phase of its life. Make it as beautiful as it deserves to be! And talking of beautiful, glad to see your channel alive again! Cheers :)
Chris - absolute quality mate! This is going to be majestic. What a beautiful car - the design has aged so well. The car looks incredible already… good luck with the rest of it. 👌👍
All the best with this project! These really are great cars once nurtured back to health and it's well worth spending even a few grand to restore. You're almost certainly correct to suspect the fuel pumps having failed. Note I used the plural there: the Supercharged version has two - I'm not sure about the non-Super model. And, yes, removing the tank is a pig of a job. What seems to happen is that the pumps get clogged up with "congealed" petrol - that happened in mine having only stood for three months over winter... And that's another thing: like Rollers these cars need to be driven regularly to keep 'em healthy. The hole you discovered under the floor is a typical corrosion spot on these cars: my 2001 model had the same issue... and you'll probably find it will need welding around bits of the front subframe too. Another common-ish issue is the door mirrors having a mind of their own. You can be driving along and they suddenly start repeatedly folding in and out of their own accord. That's caused by the weather sealing failing in the driver's door leading to the switch panel's myriad electrical connecters getting shorted out by (rain)water. It looks as though the headlining in the back is drooping: "They ALL do that, sir". Engine-wise these cars are pretty "bomb-proof" in my experience, with appropriate servicing, of course.
I buy the things people don’t and boy do I love them, Iv just sucked keep up the great content. Looking forward to seeing the up and coming episodes / projects 🎉
Great video on a beautiful car and delivered in a witty and entertaining manner. I'm just coming to the end of restoring my '02 XJ8 sport. All the same issues with corrosion, waist seals, suspension bushes, paintwork, etc now sorted and I can testify that it was absolutely worth it. Nothing else on the road quite like these last of the steel bodied XJ, x308s. I don't subscribe to the oft repeated view that the AJ16 engined cars are better either. When one considers the various developments and varied use of these engines over the last 20 years and the fact that those that really know them reckon that when those much publicised early issues were dealt with, these were a pretty much bullet-proof motor, then I'd take the more muscular and sophisticated AJ26/27 every time. I can't wait to see how the journey goes - subscribed 😁
Queen elizabeth 11 had one of these brand new lwb daimler v8's in the same colour delivered to her in 2001, as a personal car to chauffeur her around. You should feel like a king when you get the engine running and take it for a spin.
"I am that luatic that washes his car in the rain". Watch it, I did that sort of thing, and then people started turning up with car problems! Fixsed a couple of cars on my drive way, for kids starting out
Excellent video, looking forward to seeing this beautiful car brought back to life. One comment regarding the gearbox, they’re not sealed for life and it might be wise to think about replacing the transmission oil and filter if all else goes well.wishing you all the luck in the world with the car Chris.
Jags are cool, but Daimlers are so much cooler somehow. Can't wait to see this one play out. Good luck with it all. Liked, subscribed and alarm button thingy smashed! 💪👍
The Daimler is lovely. There was once someone at my work who drove a Morris Ital which was completely green/brown with moss and mould. The only clear areas were the window glass and lights. It was difficult to see what the original colour was, but you probably wouldn't want to know because BL chose some monumentally awful colours for its run of the mill cars, probably influenced by the colour scheme of the cells in Porridge. This thing was still pottering around at least ten years ago and for all I know it may still be on the road.
Yeah! Another ill advised car resto! 👏 1) amazing filming and editing 2) love the T-Shirt… 3) great car 4) great story Yes Chris 💪🏻 when it finished you can be a jag… sorry Daimler… man and waft everywhere like a plutocrat😍 #SaveFerris!
Wonderful stuff, so much potential in that beauty. Loved the Rover series. I'm hoping for a cameo from man about town / international Playboy R U Ben at some point. Your vids are beautifully shot and presented. Cracking! Love to you and yours. G.
Watching with great jealousy from Ireland where a powerful wafty barge like would cost you 2000 euro just for road tax. Looking forward to this journey
I used to work as a chauffeur for an MD of a major company. Had one of these new in 2000. It was a fantastic car. Did nearly 30000 miles in the first year with no issues. Used to do around 23mpg as well.
