Words can’t express my gratitude I have towards this. This video/cover further inspired me to start my one black metal project Niflungar (Old Norse for Die Nibelungen) and I’ve become so immersed into learning more about mythology and folklore. Before seeing this I never knew anything about the Nibelungs or the very existence of this old movie which was way ahead of its time, now I have a Serbian copy of the book Die Nibelunglied, and I am proud to have it on my shelf as a token of appreciation and dedication. Thank you Aethelruna!

The 'Masters of Cinema' release of both films has a fantastic soundtrack already-very much inspired by Wagner. Of course, you could always mute it and listen to whatever you prefer instead.

Still here after 5 years, Definitly the best burzum cover i heard. The only downside to it is the programmed drum wich sound a bit plastic but everything else make me forget about it, the epic orchestration, vocal sound very honest switching from clean to dying. This sound like a new song i already know haha. The crying orc interlude before the ending riff is a nice touch.

Excellent cover of my favourite Burzum song! I still prefer Varg's vocals in the early parts, but this is really well done.

6 years later, still revisit this every other day. Monumental cover. Question though: is sind your personal preference for to be in general? Did you decide on that based on your location?

Thanks for the kind words! As to the use of ‘sind’, it’s not really down to preference or location - I was helped with the translation of the lyrics by members of Tha Engliscan Gesithas, some of whom understood Norwegian. Translation into Old English is a tricky thing, especially when working with modern texts, as expressing some concepts is not straightforward if there exist no contemporaneous examples. The idea was to get as close as we could to the meaning of Burzum’s original, but I’m sure with more expertise many improvements could be made.

I won’t be distributing on Bandcamp for a couple of reasons: 1) I don’t wish my music to be associated with their politicking which I have written about here - www.aethelruna.co.uk/2017/02/bandcamp/ 2) Unlike other digital distributors they don’t take care of mechanical licences for artists (in order to pay the original artist royalties for cover songs, like this one!)

Shouldn't Betƿucs (betwixt) be betƿeox? hmm.. I guess spelling/grammar was something that varied from region to region anyway.

Possibly, without looking into it in more detail. However, both forms do exist in the OE corpus, but I'm not certain whether they are simply variant spellings or grammatically different. Let me know what you find out!

Long long time after, found both in JR Clark Hall's Concise Anglo Saxon Dictionary; no grammatical variant, just spelling. I believe -cs rather than -x for word-final is a Northumbrian thing but I could be misremembering. Hwa eart þu!

It's definitely worth getting ahold of, if you don't mind silent films. There is a second part that's great, too, which I did not feature any footage of here. The Masters of Cinema version (DVD/Blu Ray) from a couple of years ago has both parts.
