Outdoor winter survival documentary. No tent/tarp, no sleeping bag, no food, just a multitool, a traditional fire making kit, and some spare clothing... in other words: an ordinary weekend after work. Michel Blomgren
Enjoyed your 4 part series very very much. Full of practical and safety tips. Nice to see the bushcraft techniques demonstrated, put to use - and working - in an unforgiving northern climate. You are a very skilled bushcrafter as well as presenter. Thank you!
Late comment, I know, but thanks alot! It was pretty difficult to get across how bad this area was regarding fire and the slight breeze that felt much colder than the thermometer said. I was allowed to be there and cut trees by the land owner, not elsewhere. If I would have had a choice I would have moved and I would probably have come across as much more "skilled". I would also recommend to make more improvements than I did, especially regarding a reflector for the fire and sheltering myself from the breeze, but darkness comes quick here during winter and I needed to focus on hydration and having enough decent fire wood for the night. However, it is important to learn how to suffer or be unconfortable yet functional the next day without getting damaged - a good skill to have in many situations "off grid".
wonderful words of true wisdom. the only religion i really know is mother nature. i know when she wants me to enjoy myself, and i also know when she is mad and is not in the mood to messed with. beautiful shelter. if i ever get the chance to camp outdoors in the north during winter, i will probably copy what you have done. great video. keep them coming.
Förbannat bra och intressant serie du gjort, är inne på fjärde avsnittet i rad och klockan är nu 6 på möra^^. Keep up the good work, jag ser fram i mot att följa!
However there are times when it feels crap when trying to survive, then it is comforting (if one happens to be in a near death situation) to indulge oneself with the spiritual.
Like your videos, just wanna say that. Very informative. In the previous comment I also forget to say, start preparing for the fire (and bring more logs than you got to the left in picture, if there are any...), but don't lit it until done or almost done with the shelter.
Like someone said, a reflector across the fire would probably have radiated more heat into the shelter.

"A total waste of time" like Mors Kochanski says in this interview with Paul Kirtley: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6TYNiMx8tMA.html An open chimney or whatever it's called in English, where you have an open fire with a reflector indoors is only 20% effective. While a stove which uses the hot gasses going up to heat the whole thing is 80% efficient or more depending on the stove. We have both in our country house and the difference is extreme, why we never use the open chimney - a waste of firewood. With the experience of using both outdoors, I can't tell there is any gain with a reflector other than to keep the breeze away. However, the best practice is not to camp in a breeze, so that makes the reflector useless in my opinion. Better to burn the reflector if it's made of wood :)
Keep your remarks regarding europeans for the Italians, although they wouldnt be happy either ;) Sweden may be a member of the European union, but i wouldnt consider our nature a part of the almost nonexistent continental european nature.Although the city-kids dont have knowledge regarding outdoors or nature, sadly enough. There are organisations like the Swedish Fältbiologerna, a youth organisation, managed by the active members, that works towards getting more of the young out into the woods ;)
tjena riktigt bra filmer du gör har en fråga ingår detta i allemans rätten när du bryter grenarna och sågar det lilla trädet får man göra så elle är det bara om man är i nödsitvation
if you knew our language you would know what he was talking about, there was no dead trees around, and he was working at a minimum of energy and early stages of dehydration.
This was from the time when spruce bows were still recommended. Today, the Swedish Armed Forces has sponsored research which revealed that spruce bows are not good for insulation from the cold (regardless of amount) since spruce needles contain too much water. Instead, dead dry bows, twigs, grass, etc is recommended and that is what current survival training teaches.
