The ARVN soldier was good, brave and motivated, since they felt they fought to defend their families. Their army, on the other hand, was a hot mess plain and simple, like their whole government was.
My grandpa was a Major in the ARVN. Even though he passed away in 2020, I will defend my family legacy by joining the US Navy and becoming an F18 pilot. I hope Viet Nam is liberated!

Nevertheless, the chain of command of ARVN were some of the best and did inflicted heavy damages to the VC and the ARVN. You should that in the North, it was not a voluntary thing but a mandatory requirement for all young men to join the NVA even young men as 16 years old.
