Eileen Aldis Maybe “Ludge”, rhymes with “lunch”. Sad story of the Łódź ghetto. It is sad that when the Germans destroyed the Łódź ghetto, they also annihilated the Yiddish language.
Poland sure looks like it has so much to offer. It was never on my radar, but your videos have changed my mind. It would be an amazing place to visit. Thanks again. 👍🏻😀👍🏻
Me too. But I am sad that how my city looked like when I was a kid is just memories. I can't share that nostalgia with friends or my family. Still it is wonderful that it is not so gloomy and depressing.
I've already said it, but it's so refreshing to finally see a foreigner who checked how all the names are pronounced! For years the most famous thing about Łódź was its famous Film School that Martin Scorsese is a great fan of :)
Łódź - Polish Manchester. It is great to see that some of the textile history of Łódź was preserved for next generations. Thank you for this fun video.
The city's history is somewhat unusual in Europe, and it's more similar to the boom and bust of American cities, such as Detroit. Łódź attracted a lot of immigrants and experienced an exponential growth in the 19th century. Then came WWII, communism, and a flood of cheap Asian textiles.... I am glad Łódź is experiencing its Renaissance now.
Me too. Detroit is actually the city we were most reminded of in Łódź. Lots of similarities to be found. It's exciting to see what's happening in both cities.
@@wladyslawbukowski Actually it's called polish detroit - but more as a local joke - in reality the city is, as you mentioned, more like Polish Manchester.

I live in Łódź (born and raised) and I'm so happy you spend such a nice time in my city. Thanks for promoting it on your channel! I'm proud it evolved so much for the past 20 years and now we can stand proud when tourist visit us from all around the world. Łodź has a bad word of mouth in Poland, but we don't deserve it - yes, parts of the city are run down, but we did not rebuild anything after the war like Warsaw and now is our time to do it :) It felt really funny seeing you eat the same duplings with plum and beef cheeks I once ate and visiting the same museums I was taking my friends from outside of town to ;) Hope you visit again, there is a lot more here and in Poland in general to discover! Kisses
Hey Marta! Thanks so much for your lovely comment :) We loved visiting your city! We're making lots of other videos around Poland if you're interested to see more of our Polish adventures: bit.ly/PolandPlaylist ❤️
I am so happy guys that you enjoyed Lodz so much. You showed me my home town in a different very positive perspective. I really like your channel, keep visiting new places😊🏜🏞🏙
Hi Dorota! That makes me really happy to hear. We loved visiting your hometown. If you haven't checked out that Puro Hotel you should see about going to the cinema or they also have vinyl nights which sound cool! Our last video (here: bit.ly/warsawrising) shows our arrival in Łódź and our hotel room with an amazing view too. More videos coming :)
It wants to say "Lots" and clearly lots to do there. Sewer Museum most fascinating. The city has very creative urban planners to bring old spaces back to life. Enjoyed this one!
Brit here currently living here in Łódź. Been here a year and I've certainly become attached to this place. So many lovely people and the hospitality they have is incredible.
It's good to see my home town of Lodz painted in such a pleasant light. It typically isn't considered a tourist town but rather a student one. I love the general vibe of all your videos - you seem like two delightful people. Take care and enjoy your travels.
Hey .. I'm diggin' all of it!! Awesome mosaic mirrored building, innertube, FOOD, Cinema, elevator, carousel. Very cool area and good choice of music too! A wonderful addition to your travels!! 💑🧳👍💗
Hey Gina! That's awesome you're into it all! This city is a lot of fun and we saw (and ate) a lot haha. Exciting to see everything they have going on. Glad you like the music too! 🎶
I love this video, we visited Łódź few years back but didn’t get to see the sewer museum , but loved the city I’m happy you have a great time in Poland and yes the food is amazing. If you have opportunity to visit Wieliczka salt mine it’s really an experience . Have a great time wherever you are.😘
Thank you, Elizabeth! I'm glad you enjoyed Łódź as well! The 'sewer tour' was quite unique and we found it interesting. We did visit the salt mine and made a whole video there! We'll be sharing it coming up. What a cool place it is too :)
Pozdrowienia z Łodzi. Nie znam angielskiego w takim stopniu żeby rozumieć co mówicie, ale cieszę się, że odwiedziliście miasto w którym mieszkam i promujecie je na RU-vid. Wszystkiego dobrego 😉
Łódź jest piękna, spędziłam tam masę czasu :) Nawet akademiki wyglądają tam teraz wybitnie ( basecampstudent.com/pl/lokalizacje/polska/lodz/ ). Dobrze, że wszystko się zmienia na lepsze :)
Oh yes, I knew how to pronounce it..can't be that hard right. ahem :) Seriously though, it seems like Poland is full of comeback stories! And here's another unfamiliar gem ( I had never heard of this city anyway), presented so brilliantly by you :) The outside of that power plant (?) building kinda reminds me of something from Star Wars!
Another nice video as usual by you & Marc. This looks like another neat city to visit for everyone to get to see as well, with some good food to taste & everything else to experience in person. English speakers would never guess how to properly pronounce that name from its spelling, so that's good to know. Very cool.
Hey Kevin! I'm so sorry I haven't had a chance to reply to your super lovely FB message!! I'm extremely behind on FB messages but thank you so much for writing! :) Glad you enjoyed seeing more of this city. It's cool to see how the city is reinventing itself and embracing the old factories. Thank goodness for the vision to not tear them all down. The Manufaktura complex is award-winning and such a shining example of what's possible when you repurpose old spaces. Glad we got to check this city out!
Hi, Ok, no problem. I thought I'd said something awkward or worse & had totally offended you or something. Glad to know I didn't. Anyway, super happy for you & Marc to have been able to see it & share your experiences with everyone else. I greatly appreciate your response back. Does Marc also do a video presentation of your sightseeing as well, or does he just provide much-needed support, I'd imagine? Anyway, that's awesome you & Marc have been able to share out the places you've been. Have a great October!
Aawwn this is cute to watch, I'm a native English speaker who just started studies in the Medical University of Lodz (English division of course haha) so this actually helps in a lot of ways. Can't wait to visit all these places soon x
Love the fun retro 1960's music underground. Overall the music choices are quirky fun :) add a whole fresh feel to this beautiful city. Your storytelling keep getting better and better. Thanks for this delightful share guys. Best, James and Kim
Dętka (the "sewer") is not really a sewer, it was actually a rainwater reservoir. Due to the lack of sewers people living near Piotrkowska Street were just throwing their filth out of their windows onto the street. Then water was released from reservoir down the street, cleaning it in the process.
I'm living in uk for last 13 minutes years and I'm from poland from Lodz it's nice to see u guys to mow lovely country I'm the so much! Ps. I love England so much as well take care guys
Lodz przezywa swoj Renesans ,teraz juz czas aby stalo sie to z ludzmi w Polsce ,abysmy rownie byli dumni . Lodz jest moim ukochanym miastem ,do ktorego jezeli byloby to mozliwe❓🤔chetnie bym wrocila ❗Pozdrowienia z Montrealu 🙋♀️💌,Marzenna .
You only scrached the cinema topic. Łódź is the capital of Polish film industry. Some call it "Hollyłódź". One of the most famous actors and film directors academy is located here. Roman Polański, Andrzej Wajda - oscar winners came from this school. In late 1950's and 1960's it was dubbed as "Polish Film School", which movies was awarded on many film festivals and became famous all over the world. Łódź has two football clubs, in one of them played once Jan Tomaszewski - "the man who stopped England" in 1973 on the way to World Cup. Amazingly, English fans remember his name till now :)
Hellow from NYS US .I was born in this city in 1953 and living for 40 years. It is very interesting 950 years old city in fact the best time was 19 century growing Polisch manufactures witch was bring Germans and Hollands peoples to open his own biusnes.
Part of the manufaktura complex is the Andels hotel and they have a roof top cocktail bar open to everyone overlooking the manufaktura campus and Lodz.
Manufaktura shopping/entertainment "district", is like city inside city. I mean the size of it. Cool place. Personally. I like Lodz train station. I think it's totally awesome.
Pokazali to co wszyscy, którzy chwalą Łódź. Pietrynka, Manu i bonusowo EC1. W tym mieście nie ma co więcej pokazywać. Pietrynka z tektury, skręć w którąkolwiek boczną ulicę idąc nią i czar pryska.
My favorite part was the cinema. I just absolutely loved how the bar looked! It looks like a place people would grab drinks before a night out in the 1950s.
It is sooooo great to see someone visiting my hometown. It developing and changing! Most people, even from Poland, associate it with being the gloomiest city in Poland! Thank you for showing it's not. Lots of love form Łódź
Jeśli chcesz zobaczyć z bliska trzeci świat a nie masz ochoty wybrać się do Indii, Afryka, zapraszam do Łodzi. Cytując Bogusława Linde "Łódź miasto meneli".
I very recommend watching The Promised Land movie (in polish "Ziemia Obiecana") from 1975. There you could check how Lodz looked like in XiX century (Manufaktura, Izrael Poznański's Palace - one next your hotel, Piotrkowska street, Hotel Grand, etc. - many buildings were renovated to look like in XiX). The film about 3 friends who launched a new factory. It was nominated to Oscar. It is worth to watch Museum of Cinematography - Lodz is known from one of the best film school.
@@EileenAldis if you are still in Lodz, you can check huge ferries wheel (55m). Brilliant view for entire city. White factory is worth watching also. Cathedral.
@@EileenAldis The film portrays the most vicious, corrupt, callous and inhuman greed and arrogance imaginable. www.imdb.com/title/tt0072446/reviews?ref_=tt_urv
Łódź+ produkcja bawełny + kino = "Ziemia obiecana" A.Wajdy - zobaczcie koniecznie ten genialny film Łódź + cotton production + cinema = "The Promised Land" by A. Wajda - you must see this brilliant movie
There are many beautiful palaces, yes! We didn't go inside but saw many from the outside. Have you seen our video where we arrive in the city for the first time? Our hotel had an amazing view of a palace :)
Just a lil tip: if you're buying a ticket from the tickets machine INSIDE a tram, or bus - you don't have to validate it :) But remember, that you still have to validate tickets you bought from stationary machines (like from the ones standing next to the bus stops e.g.). Nice vid as usually! ; ]
It's not entirely true; I guess what you mentioned works in Warsaw for example, but in Łódź you still have to valide a ticket bought inside tram/bus. (Speaking as a native Łódź resident:))
@@xAlemska444 Actually you're right, I'm from Warsaw, but i thought it works like that in most/every big city in Poland, especially when I haven't seen any printings on the ticket (and a red light blink on the validator) at 00:28. My bad then, but still - my tip works in Warsaw anyway :D
I'm living in Łódź and i gotta say I rather live in England like if you're a tourist then it's pretty (and it is) but when i first flew to england, it changed my look on Poland lol You should really explore the Wedel hot chocolates (in the chocolate shop) It's very good but after drinking it you are soo full! I also reccomend the only cat cafe or like a cat tea cafe? (Kocia Herbaciarnia) It's cute and there are cats there! I was there and it's really good! Well that's all i got to say XD bye folks
Łódź is very underrated but it's getting more popular in recent years. It is one of the younger cities therefore architecture is not as impressive but it's definitely an interesting city worth visiting. I would say it's a very american city when it comes to architecture as it was planned and the streets have a chess structure like in the US :D
317/5000 Curiosity !!! Something like Platform 3/4. There is Brzechwy street in Łódź. It has one side. And there is no beginning !!! Her numbers are 3.5.7 (I live here), 7a (clinic), 9, 9a (transformer) sic !!!! And that's all ! there are no even numbers. And number 1. So there is no beginning and no even page. Greetings from Lodz. Witek Ciekawostka !!! Coś jak Peron 9 3/4 . W Łodzi jest ulica Brzechwy. Ma ona jedną stonę. I nie ma początku!!! Jej numery to 3,5,7(tu mieszkam),7a (przychodnia),9, 9a(transformator) sic!!!! I to wszystko ! nie ma parzystych numerów. Oraz numeru 1. Czyli nie ma początku, i parzystej strony. you could see "Promise Land" by Wajda. This was Polish candidate for Oscar at the beginning of 70thies. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0D1q-P9z7Lw.html with English subtitles The plot is Lodz at the end of XIX century (Polish Manchester)
