Şirince is a cute little village with a fun history, beautiful views, wonderful food, hospitality, and so much more. It's perhaps the perfect synthesis of a traditional Turkish village and traditional Greek village. In fact, the town, whose name actually means "cute" in Turkish, used to be called "Çirkince," meaning "ugly."
Everything changed in 2012 when Sirince became the center of world news. It was in headlines of newspapers. A rumor was spread in international media that Sirince is one of the two shelters that you can save yourself from the Mayan Apocalypse that was supposed to destroy Earth in 2013.

Sirince was mostly visited by Turkish locals before 2012. Yet, this international media attention positively helped Sirince to gain its rightful place among the top Turkish tourist destinations and drastically increased international tourists to Sirince.
