Η τεχνητή λίμνη του Αώου δημιουργήθηκε με την κατασκευή του υδροηλεκτρικού φράγματος της ΔΕΗ το 1987. Βρίσκεται πολύ κοντά στο Δ.Δ. Χρυσοβίτσας στο οροπέδιο της «Πολιτσάς», στους πρόποδες του Μαυροβουνίου σε υψόμετρο 1350 μ.
Μπορείτε να κάνετε το γύρω της λίμνης με το αυτοκίνητο ή με ποδήλατο βουνού και να δείτε την πλούσια χλωρίδα και πανίδα της λίμνης καθώς έχει εξελιχθεί σε σημαντικό οικοσύστημα. Ο περίπλους της Λίμνης των Πηγών Αώου διαρκεί περίπου 30 χιλιόμετρα.
Είναι ένα γαλήνιο αλπικό σκηνικό μόλις 10 χιλιόμετρα από το Δ.Δ. Χρυσοβίτσας. Ο ασφάλτινος δρόμος κάνει τον γύρο της τεχνητής λίμνης που αιχμαλώτισε τα νερά των πηγών του ποταμού Αώου στα 1.340 υψόμετρο και το αισθητικό αποτέλεσμα για πολλούς ξεπερνά σε σημασία το υδροηλεκτρικό φράγμα της ΔΕΗ. Τον χειμώνα τα γαλάζια νερά βυθίζονται στο λευκό σεντόνι του χιονισμένου τοπίου και το καλοκαίρι πνίγονται στο πράσινο του πυκνού παρόχθιου δάσους!
Το τοπίο γύρω από την λίμνη είναι μαγευτικό και αίναι καταφύγιο για πολλά αρπακτικά πουλιά. Η βλάστηση φθάνει μέχρι την στάθμη των νερών της λίμνης.
Οι δασικοί δρόμοι γύρω απ' την λίμνη είναι βατοί και προσπελάσιμοι για όσους θελήσουν να εξερευνήσουν αυτό το υπέροχο τοπίο. Η διαδρομή είναι πολύ γραφική. Περνά από δάσος μαύρης πεύκης που εντυπωσιάζει με το μεγάλο ύψος και τον ίσιο κορμό των δέντρων καθώς και από δάσος οξιάς.
