Dusk Legion Duelist will for sure be amazing, i was thinking you play skrelv turn 1, legion turn 2, siege turn 3, and can flash in an emperor on 4. 5/5 protected vigilance that drew you 3 cards sounds good to me.

Don’t forget, there is the “Backup” mechanic in this set to help Dusk Legion Duelist on top of everything else you said.

Explosive Singularity goes pretty well with Hidetsugu and Kairi. Have a sac effect handy and you're ready to combo off in 1 turn.

To contribute to your Bloated Processor pick. You mentioned the need for blood artist affects. We actually have two, Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim and Vraan, Executioner Thane. Their downsides are they are both legendary but with two different creatures it's possible to have at least two artists on the field. The legend rule also causes the drains to trigger. Vraan only is once per turn but the drain is equivalent to two sacrifices with a blood artist. And with Bloated Processor being instant speed you gain drain on your turn and your opponents. Elas is strange but the creature has to ETB to be sacrificed so when it dies you get a full blood artist effect by the end. But their biggest pro is they are both Phyrexian and cost two mana which is the sweet spot. We'll see if them being legendary causes an issue since blood artists are better in multiple.

Loved the video! Didn't expect some of the choices, but it was a cool surprise nonetheless. Hidetsugo and Kairi is a card that I wanted to try in standard as well (this set is kind of making me want to go back to standard after exclusively playing Historic and Historic Brawl for quite some time, a couple of years) so it was interesting to see it on your list. I am curious about what it can do with new cards, especially Breach The Multiverse as a top-end. I also agree with some of the other cards in the list, such as the new Thalia, Surge of Salvation and Elspeth because, as you mentioned, they can fit into existing decks or similar ones that could have answers in standard or increase the power of currently really strong cards. Elesh Norn, though? I like the card, I really do. I like when white is more about taxing, high toughness, changes the pace of battles, or is just an overwhelming presence even if they're not about high power. Elesh Norn can do some of that, but I think it might be a bit slow for BO1. The effect definitely could change the pace of battle, but in some situations, you might be already close to dead, and the opponent might have lots of life to spare for this to be relevant. I want to be wrong, because I think it would be incredibly cool to see Elesh Norn "oppose" Sheoldred and other cards (they might also go well together, who knows). Hopefully this set has a bigger impact on the standard format, that's what I'm betting on and that's why I'm looking forward to giving Standard another go, but at the very least I think we might be getting some cool foundation for when rotation happens. When old Eldraine Elkland happened I wanted rotation because I couldn't stand those cards anymore, now I want rotation because I am excited for different possibilities. At least it feels a bit of a healthier standard right now. And funnily enough, if I'm not mistaken, new Eldraine is when rotation will happen! Life is just a weird set of circles. Excited for the new set, can't come soon enough. Have a good one \o/

Another thing hidetsugu and kairi does is putting your oppnent in a tight spot. When they kill it on their next turn you get your card of choice to be flipped. But they can't let it sit on the table for it's a 5/4 flyer. You get your opponent to think, and that's where mistakes can happen

Super excited for Dusk Legion Duelist in Spell Slinger Builds of many colors. Security bypass, Homestead Courage, Slip Out The Back... Also with Ivy Spell Slinger... OMG Cannot wait to build!!!

I think faerie mastermind is gonna be played somewhere. I don’t think it’s gonna make it into any of the S tier decks, but I can see it being a staple in mono-blue and maybe moving an A or B tier deck up.

I think the Wrenn static ability will be more relevant when New Capenna cycles out.

That surge will look great in an arcane bombardment deck!

I think there's serious potential for soldiers to replace Thalia with Duelist and Myrel with Elspeth Archangel, for those looking to switch it up. Vigilance, card advantage, lifelinking tokens, and flying are all things that would make that deck even harder to deal with, especially in aggro mirrors.

Totally felt the same way when I saw the spoiler for surge of salvation - I’d go even a step further, because not only does it include hexproof for YOU, it’s all permanents so that’s not just creatures but everything.

Elesh's backside has stupid synergy with Azorious Artifacts. Pair the sacrifice cost with Malcator's Watcher and now its a card draw engine.

I want to play a deck with Hidetsugu and Kairi, a good sac outlet, and like 8-10 resurrection spells. Play it, sac with the trigger on the stack put it back into play doing like 5 damage from the spell, rinse and repeat. Could easily combo off for 20 damage thanks to the brainstorm effect.

Question is when do we have enough cards suffering from the green effect to have the green effect no longer be an effect.

The Surge is insane in this meta, full stop.

Elesh norn front side is sort of an overrun effect for white. If they tap out on a full board they could just be dead even if they can profitably block everything. The body is good but one reason sheoldred is a big battlefield presence is its death touch. Creatures are either small or gigantic. 3/5 doesn't mean anything in a world of 7/7s. Defensively it doesn't help that it doesn't fly. It's very powerful but I'm not sure it's gonna have a home in the current standard.

I have the same opinion over the Battle Cards. For best of one the majority battle cards i saw seem really slow for the current meta. Let's see how the meta morfs with the new cards but there are so many good aggro cards for mono red, mono white and even soldiers that i can't see it getting significantly slower for those cards to work. Don't know about Duelist in number one spot but it's definitely a powerhouse for sure. There are alot of good creature cards that get killed by cut down or play with fire when they enter the field but they got to see alot of games anyways.

Archangel elspeth might be able to buff green in those selesnya decks. Poison? Now they fly enchantments? They fly Also any green decks or self mill can slot this in to recur a lot of 1-3cmc cards with Even blue white control: just buffing esper sentinels and making lifelinkers can chump lots of aggro, and if they dont kill your creatures, they immediately dodge removal not named lightning strike (this is assuming just a 1/1)

I think the combination of the lowest defense counters and the sheer power of the front side makes Invasion of Gobakhan not just very playable, but one of the strongest cards in the set. If any card allows W aggro to move away from Thalia, that'll be it.

You can damage Rona, Tolarian Obliterator yourself to cheat cards into play.

You can deal damage to the transformed side of Rona yourself and with a bit of luck, you can play emrakul from your hand for free. Not competitive but i’ll play it anyway

Elish Norn in historic Angels, maybe? Not sure if it replaces Ajani, but it seems like a similar type of tiebreaker. The duelist is a much better Mentor of the Meek. Not sure how good that is, but it sounds great on paper. Also, I wonder how good battles would be in a Vorinclex Monster Raider historic deck. Would that even work correctly?

surge of salvation is probably the card that's going to piss me off the most in this set. it's not enough that white has all the board wipes and graveyard exiles and and lifegain- give it a 1-cost mass hexproof and red/black hate damage negation stg white has zero identity anymore it's just "give them everything"

Seen Hidetsugu and Kairi in a combo deck with explosive singularity and corrupted conviction, to deal 20 damage in a turn. And I would see Elesh Norn in an Orzhov deck with phyrexian obliterator.

I'm surprised you didn't go with the battle for new phyrexia considering the mine splice apparatus and crank that x-value up pretty easily

You're sort of convincing me with Surge... It is fairly relevant in the current meta... But will the current meta be the future meta? Also, it does nothing about Soldiers (I guess it hexproofs for a Brutal Cathar?... But that's pretty weak). I'm still thinking it will be a sideboard card, but you might be right.

Duelist is indeed busted but I don't think there are enough good counter cards to make a deck in standard, could slot in soldiers if you add Emperor and maybe Valkyrie to it, go a bit bigger (or go Bant for new Ozolith, that card is also insane). It might make Counter decks a reality in Pioneer though, card draw was the only thing they were missing and now they even have good mana (thanks ONE for printing the fastlands).

Just got back from prerelease and gotta say the fact that ragavan isn’t on this list feels like a mistake to me. I was playing sealed to be fair but it’s crazy strong.
