I have to agree to a large extend. I have a bias for Zakharova because of all the stupid statements made about her, and I still prefer her ending where she was more wild and that hatred in her eyes when she pointed is still unbeatable for me. I am very picky about Nikiya’s death scene since I’ve seen so many subpar, uninspired performances of it (cough cough Polina Semionova) But this was such a gorgeous and dignified interpretation of a true artist.

Norma Mimosa -OMG, here we go again with your claim and often written response that 'everyone who criticizes Alina is jealous of her incredible flexibility ,and the bar has been moved and never coming back down and bla bla" . -Snore ! Why would you think I don't enjoy exquisite flexibility and classical line ?? Think -Olga Smirnova, Viktoria Tereshkina Yaun Yaun Tan, Darcy Bussell ,Sylvie Guillium and Lucia Laccara and one of my all time favs Daria Klimentová to name a few But when classical placement and the musical score are sacrificed to compensate for Alinas famous staccato movements( that often include her over rated développé à la seconde and fouettes that are all strangely executed with her standing leg completely TURNED IN !!) Well thats where I am left scratching my head, And yet u call me jealous, all I am left to think is this is NormaMimosas style !!! Also, there is no" contradiction in terms' 'when one is over emoting and stuck in being one dimensional, its also known as over compensating and yet still presents itself has flat, a dichotomy if you will . Its what you do when you don't have stage presence(straining your jugular and ear waking are not enough, but they are for Norma) .But what I do get from Alina is that she try's very hard to mimic those great ballerinas that came before her, yet she lacks that Je nais sais qoi BTW it has been mentioned many times that Alina was thrown into swan lake at a young age to fill the void of exaggerated movements Zakharova would leave when she ventured to the Bolshoi. Yet she never quite had or got Zakharova's polished look .

Norma Mimosa - there she goes again with another one of her go to phrases when anyone criticizes Alina "Perhaps you could supply a link to your performances in the same variations to show us just how it should be done" . ( No) but I could supply many of links of dancers past and present presenting this variation that surpass Alina interpretation on so many levels !

Imho you may be overestimating the professional dancers involvement into the action sequence screenplay. Each movement is carefully polished with the trainer. So what you see is not just the dancer interpretation. This is result of hard every day team work. While free dancer interpretations are possible in some school theatre, when some dancer wants to show her newly trained technique. Mariinsky Theatre prima dancers do not need more technique. They can do everything. They need to evolve brand of the Theatre, show something more attractive than anyone have seen before. Such performance is then described in respectful magazines, and it is discussed by future visitors of Saint-Petersburg and Mariinsky Theatre.
