It's great that music is such a universal international language of communication. By the way, I began to study English only because of my passion for foreign rock, and not because we learned it at school. I'm glad that you, Elias, react to a variety of mostly Russian music on your channel. And I'm doubly glad when this music turns out to be Tsoi or someone else who is dear to my heart. Yes, of course there is a language barrier and a great difference in cultures, and a simple translation does not always give you a complete understanding of the whole meaning of this song. To translate Tsoi's song into English and make it an English song, it's not enough to be just a good translator. You need to be the same brilliant Tsoi, only American. However, it's worth trying. I have already heard how foreigners try to sing Tsoi's songs not only in Russian, but also in Japanese, Korean, English and several other languages. I myself, listening to foreign rock in high school, became interested in equirithmic translations of English and German songs. After all, I love to sing - my neighbors were unlucky. LOL 🤣🤣🤣 Recently, for the first time, I tried my hand at reverse equirithmic translation from Russian into English. It's very difficult, but it's damn interesting and helps in learning languages. It seems that in one of my comments I have already thrown you a link to the video and my equirithmic translation of the song "Made in the USSR" by Oleg Gazmanov. Here you received a lot of suggestions for other songs of Tsoi in the comments. In general, I think that you can safely choose any one, you won't make a mistake. Because I don't even know if Tsoi has bad songs. Rather, it's a matter of taste. Peace! ✌😉🇷🇺🇺🇸
Definitely it is hard to understand the real meaning behind all songs. Of course, if you want a serious analysis of Tsoi's music, it helps to understand Russian and to know about him: his life, his ideas, and the moment and place where he lived. But not everyone analyses the music they listen to, I would say that most people listen to music because they like the tune. Tsoi's music can be enjoyed by anyone even without the lyrics, that's the magic of his talent. A good example is listening to Tsoi's music played by a Symphonic orchestra: pure instrumentation and it is fantastic.
Песня про то, что есть в жизни проблемы и не всё складывается, как надо. Но ты жив а значит есть надежда на лучшее, и раз так, то нечего грустить, надо увидеть хорошие моменты и на зло всей тьме прожить это тёмное время счастливым и не сломаться под грузом проблем. The song is about the fact that there are problems in life and not everything works out as it should. But you are alive, which means there is hope for the best, and if so, then there is nothing to be sad about, you need to see the good moments and live this dark time happy for the evil of all darkness, stay productive, workable and not break down under the burden of problems.
Хз, мне всегда казалось наоборот: типа "все на месте, да что-то не так", т.е. даже когда кажется, что все хорошо, на самом деле это лишь временно. И "пей да гуляй", "я с тобой пока", лишь пока, ведь вскоре все изменится и будущее мрачное, и это мрачное будущее навевает тоску на иллюзорно счастливое настоящее.
Hi Elias! The guys in the comments have already spoken about the general meaning of this song. And I want to say about some of the details that google translate absolutely always distorts (or ignores altogether). The first interesting point: in Tsoi's songs there are a lot of phrases without verbs (non-verbal sentences). And in the song "Star" most of the phrases are without verbs. I know that in English this is a rarity, but in Russian the construction of a phrase without a verb - part of the poetic tradition. We use non-verbal sentences in colloquial speech, but it is in poetry that non-verbal sentences give a shade epic (and, therefore, nationality) of the narrative. Also, non-verbal phrases especially enhance imagery and provide many opportunities for interpretation. It is the ambiguity of interpretations that attracts such a number of people to Victor's songs - each person finds something of his own in these poems. However, precisely because these sentences are constructed without a verb, Google's machine translation often translates them with strong distortions of meaning. As a result, phrases lose their color, depth, meaning. The second interesting point: this song uses a word that is completely impossible to translate into English equally. This impossibility was recognized by many philologists and literary masters. As you know, language is a reflection of the life and mentality of a nation. In the Russian language there is no analogue to the English word "privacy", or the word "sensitive" (and we can translate them only in a general phrase, and not in one word). In English (besides other untranslatable words) there is no analogue to the Russian word "ТОСКА" ("tɐˈska" - I don't know, can RU-vid display phonetic transcription characters). This word is used in the third line of the second verse, "ох, заедает меня ТОСКА", which Google translator translates as "oh, MELANCHOLY gnaws at me". Google-translate translates this word as "sadness" or "melancholy" or "longing", but this does not correspond to the meaning of this word and the feeling that this word stands for. "ТОСКА" can be felt, but not translated into an already established centuries-old language system. Russian ТОСКА - we can say that this is one of the culture-forming words denoting feelings (Masters of transferring this feeling were in all eras, for a non-Russian-speaking person an understandable example would be the name of Dostoevsky, the world-famous Russian writer. Well, for Russian-speaking people it is both Tsoi and Bashlachev , and Letov, etc.)
Если по заниматься интерпретациями, то смысл песни выходит не очень светлый и жизнерадостный. Кино вообще это свойственно, за бодрой музыкой прятать довольно сумрачные смыслы. О чем это песня, о том что есть тысячи верящих что стоит день, светит солнце. Все хорошо и радостно. Вот только на самом деле, темная ночь, волки воют, и никто не поможет кроме светлой звезды в небе. Да и то. Звезд не видно когда. приходит гроза.
@@basedjamsztv Joanna was the 1st american (at least which I know) who became seriously interested in Russian rock scene. She came to Russia. Even married (for some time the guitarist from Kino - Yuri Kasparyan). She was bonding with our rock people and she produced Red Wave records and tried to promote it in USA. She also had her own solo carrier and I find her solo album very good and she had songs collaborated with russian rock musicians and composers.
Да. Цой успел записать вокальные партии буквально за несколько дней до смерти. Музыканты Кино потом уже после смерти записывали инструментал и сводили с голосом
For me the meaning of the song is not positive. I interpret it as a premonition of trouble. Like, "now it is a day, the sun is shining, people seem to be in unity, everyone says that the future is bright. But it is a fake and false - the night will come, bad things will happen and noone will help us besides the star (which is a symbol of hope) ". Like, people on Titanic see the iceberg but pretend not seeing it and keep partying. For me meaning is clear if you consider the situatuin in the USSR in 1990 - public figures told peoole that everything is ok and that a bright future is coming, but then the economical and social life collapsed. Tsoy didnt see this happening before his death, but he felt that the troubled times are coming despite everyone's false optimism.
2:09 To understand what Choi sings about (КИНО), you need to be Russian, think like a Russian. The lyrics of his songs are complex and the essence is hidden.I can't understand some of his songs myself))
