The bird got its name due to the dark area of plumage under the beak, similar to a beard.
The bearded owl is common in the forests of temperate and northern latitudes of Eurasia and North America. Favorite habitats are taiga forests with the presence of cuttings, harems, and swamps. But they also settle in light pine forests and other types of forest. The nests of the owl, like other owls, do not build, but occupy the buildings of other birds - usually daytime predators - buzzards, grouse and others.
