Collecting my 2024 Ford Transit Custom Van. Is it worth the £50,000 price tag, after a 7 month wait? 

No van is worth 50000 it's a tin box with engine and wheels .. wake up kids .

It would only be worth 50k if it had 30k cash in the back

New vehicle prices are simply going nuts but OMG £50K for a transit is simply beyond ridiculous IMO.

No mention of the wet belt then? These will be the downfall of Ford if they don't stop producing this engine.

Its a wheeled box. A utility van requires a simple economic reliable easy-to service engine. Rugged gearbox, a speedometer and windscreen wipers. Same philosophy as the Toyota Hilux pickup. £10,000 max. It should be cheap to run, cheap to service and last thirty years. It doesn’t need £40,000 of bollocks like five microprocessors in each door when a window winder does it better for £5 and gives the driver some much-needed exercise.

Not worth that high price , it is a van and it carries things. No need for the electronic which might work when new but a nightmare when it goes wrong. Vans should be simpler, nice but simple.

The square steering wheel reminds me of the Austin Allegro in the 70s

Clearly, the Transit has become the van for the well established working Man/Woman. A new start-up company/self employed worker couldn't possibly afford these. I have driven Transits from 1988 to 2014 and after the factory was moved from Southampton to Turkey, I noticed a reduction in quality and reliability. Good video.

Absolutely nuts!! I used to buy my transits for about 700 quid use them for a year then sell them for about 500 quid.

This is completely nuts, how can an intelligent person spend this much on a van. I know people spend more than £100k on VW vans. The profits on vans must be immense. My business runs 3 nissan vans that are 9 and 10 years old and have owned them for about 5 years and will run the into the ground which will be about another 10 years as they as bullet proof so far. All 3 van cost me a lot less than 50k.

No twin side loading doors and no mention of wet belts.

Other thing to watch out for is if you’ve had the old version the back doors don’t have the stops that prevent them from swinging to the full 180 position, if wind catches the door and parked the door can fully swing into the road 🫣😭

So my conclusion is modern vans are good , if you are in the position to change it before the warranty runs out . I have met one owner with one of these and its already been back to ford , and off the road for 6 weeks ... and he also handed back the previous model before the warranty ran out ... this is a bullet that is going to be hard too escape... ps ... the ford specialist that I use is now looking for bigger workshop , to fix em post warranty. Go figure.

Hi Simon - I have the same van (Frod Transit Custom, Limited in Magnetic grey) but I have the 2.0l manual. If you go through the display settings using the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel you can add a linear rev counter on the right hand side of the digital dashboard. I also changed my speedo to a round one with a digital read out so it's very customisable. BTW I paid a fraction UNDER £40k all in for mine. Amazingly I bought it through Costco Auto's! Have to say that so far I'm loving mine, great van! As for the handbrake, it takes some getting used to but if you take off your seatbelt with the brake pressed then turn off the engine it will auto apply the parking brake and then when you get in it to drive off it will auto release.

I think it’s too much to spend on a van, but if your VAT registered, you get some of it back and if that’s what you want good on you

Honestly quite like the new Transit Custom but I wouldn't have one - already seen 3 done over in Sussex as Ford haven't upgraded the security at all. Almost £50k for the Transit just means the Transporter will be near to 60k for the same spec - usually buy Transporters but now they're in partnership with Ford the customisation that's been consistent from the T5 through to the T6.1 is gone so they will likely be less sought after for conversions after they're done with work vehicles. There was never really the aftermarket seen with the Transit so it felt they were priced appropriately but definitely don't think it's worth 50k.

Wouldn’t pay £50k for a Transporter (older one) I had a top of the T5 new in 2015 that was £28k are the newer ones worth £20k more absolutely not. Hope you enjoy it, nice van just don’t see value for money.

I don't really mind a squircle steering wheel. I do value my physical buttons for the ventilation and heater controls. I often have glue or dirt on my fingers at the end of the day.

Hope the van security on doors has been addressed or it’s a further 1k for locks and plates to be fitted

The steering wheel is nice to use but yes I would like the Electric Parking Brake to engage automatically when I turn off the engine. The Sat Nav doesn't work in parts of the country or dies after a couple of hours of use and there is already a recall for those door hinges to be replaced.

Hi Simon, in the same boat as you. Just had mine about a month now. To get the hand break to release automatically when you pull away you have to have your seatbelt on.

I had one as a loan in the same spec. It was really nice except the speed limit recognition. The bongs from the alerts drive me mad! You have to turn off alerts every time you start. So annoying.

It doesn't seem long ago i was purchasing Renault Sport vans for £12.5K + VAT for goodness sake its a van !

Regarding keyless keys might be good to get a Faraday pouch. Make it part of your work belt, l know you may work within sight of your van. But we can all let our guard down loo trip, thieves relay your key signal and a quick drive off.

Good idea to change the old van at 55k miles as the wet cambelt has been known to break at 70 k miles. Because of this I would never consider this van .Is it worth £50 k -no its an outrageous price for a van.

Love the honesty of your reviews I think I share most of your views on the van! Was waiting for the steering wheel to flip up like it does on the advert! I’ve got a 18 plate custom and me and the wife pick it over driving the car all the time.

You say it feels bigger in the back…. My first impression just looking at the old and new one is that the new one looks smaller cos it looks like the roof is a lot lower??

50k for a vehicle which will take the van thieves about 5 mins or less to get into. Probably one of the easiest vans to break into. For 50k I'd want steel cage doors on back and sluding doors and reinforced roof. Deadlock doors with keys are the best way to prevent . Technology can be hacked and that 50k van will be gone off the drive. The gear lever on the side is much like the old mitsubishi variants & as for the handbrake switch. You cant beat thetraditional hand brake which as we all know if we're fully loaded and up on an incline we pull it up even more & leave the van in gear . I always leave my van in gear when not in use and the wheel fully turned to lock . So if someone does break in tbey cant roll it away unless of course they start the van!!! All tbe technology he has on tbag truck he spent 50k on and hasnt a clue what it does . But it will all be connected like thr EV to the internet which means they can still shut your vehicle down whenever they want.

Can you ditch the screens with out it looking povity spec and shit? I want a DAB radio, heated screen, maybe aircon and propper dials.

Yes, there is a rev counter. You need to enable it and will appear on the right or left side of the dash, depends how you configure it. I have a new generation 2023 Wildtrack Ranger, with the same infotainments system. I’d be interested to know if you experience apple car play connection issues. Phone connects fine but no sound. Disconnect/ reconnect and all if fine again.

12:21 tachometer is what it is called under the settings menu, and it is a digital bar that sits to the right of all the dials/info displayed, that goes as the revs increase, It also changes colour depending on if the drive mode is selected in either eco or sport for example. Along with having the option to see a roundel system speedometer/together displayed with a digital readout.

No latch mechanism on the rear doors? Cost saving exercise, good luck in heavy winds.

Hi, it does have a rev counter, it’s within the menu, secondly you can get them much cheaper than £50k. The handbrake release is automatic but you need both hands on the steering wheel, also if you’re at a stop push the brake pedal a bit harder and the parking brake comes on and releases the minute you pull away, I’ve had mine for 3 months and absolutely love it.

If that van is worth £50k the amount of value it has to bring to a business is enormous. I would expect a VW/MAN Lwb High roof for that money. I presume it bings and bongs at every opportunity too. To be a brutal, I don't like the styling insode or out so I will stick with both of my Ford Transit T350 LWB vans of 2011 and 2012 vintage. I have driven a 2019 Vauxhall Movano Lwb when I did some work on it for a customer and I quite liked it. The Movano/Master has a fully galvanized body so won't rust for a considerable time.

You'll get used to the gear selector real quick. I've had it on a few Mercs and honestly it's great once you're familiar with it. Clears so much space in the middle of the cab!

I LOVE the column shifter! I mean I’d prefer it was a manual one rather than an electronic one, but I’m glad more companies are putting them on the column like they used to. Frees up space for the centre. Maybe cars could put them on the column and have a middle front seat

He didn't spend 50000 k ,on a lease a couple of grand down and around 400 a month and can claim the VAT back and offset everything against tax, one of the few perks of being self employed .

This is why I love my Mercedes Vito it was £500 Still Going Strong after 24 years. Do you think these Ford Customs will be Around in 24 years? or do you think that older vans are better built and over engineered.

Nice van. Far too expensive. I'd put it around the £30k mark. Last one I bought was £15k all the bells and whistles trafic. 2007

I opted to get the last of the previous version, exactly the same as my other van but £18K less expensive. ford need to get a grip with the engines if they were going to develop a new van why not redesign a new engine to go with it, why stick with the WET belt from previous models? Security needs to be addressed too. These vans a far to easy to break into.

The plylining is not fixed down at the back of the van on the nearside. I wouldn't be happy with that, but otherwise, it looks great!

Hopefully it hasn’t got the rubber belt which drives the oil pump. This is a notorious bad design and very troublesome.

I expect you can get a small Bluetooth Rev counter to dash mount if there isn’t one on-screen..

Have they changed the door design to stop thieves drilling a hole and getting inside in two seconds?

I just bought a 2023, 14 month old custom limited high roof lwb in a similar colour from a ford dealer, £22k plus vat they are no plans to make a high top yet of the new model

Great Video, I currently own a 2017 T6 which i would like to change but the price has exploded. The reason i mentin this is i believe VW & Ford are producing the same van as do other manufacturers. Nissan,renault, vauxhall, citroen. £50K is a lot of money for me and a bit too much but time will tell. Also have they got rid of the wet belt system that seems to have plagued them.

With the recent “home delivery” culture that has sprung up in the U.K. over the last five years, vans are in higher demand and subsequently values have increased in line with that..

13:37 also there is a setting that flashes up as a green light on the dash/screen behind the steering square wheel with a hand symbol, it’s useful when at lights, no need to put the hand brake on, when temporary stopped as I said that the lights!

@Mr04051964 0 seconds ago I have the brand new custom170ps L2 Limited, price with a few extras including vat was £44k, the independent suspension is a deal breaker, so much smoother over bumps I thought I would mention that the limited van I’ve been waiting for for a year, and I picked up in March, does pull away without the need to manually release the electronic handbrake, try it again and you will be happy. Not sure why it didn’t work for you.

I’ve got the same auto van as yours. Love it. You are wrong about a few things. The rev meter is on the right hand side of the screen and the hand break is fully automatic. Great vid. You just have to get used to it. Also down load the ford pro app you will love it as you can even remote start the van with the app. Worth the 50K

That was a very good and honest review 50k seems such a lot of money for a van but like you say since Covid, everything is way too much money’ by the way the speed limit on a motorway in a transit van is 60 mph😅

IF, you've bought a Custom, with a 'wet belt' then you'd better be aware as there are very bad!

Had one two weeks I really don’t think it’s a improvement Miss the sunglasses holder above driver door Hate all the warnings bells and chimes had the info screen go off when parked in the sun But my biggest concern is the auto selector on a indicator stalk And yes had problem with handbrake And why couldn’t they have blind spot warning on mirrors ?

To get the rev counter go into settings and scroll down to display and there’s a option called tachometer click that and it should then be displayed on the right hand side of the screen

Rev counter is in the options. It's just a bar tho. Had one of these vans for a couple of months, you can change speedo to round gauge too.

You will get use to that gear lever. It’s the same as the Mercedes Auto. It’s convenient. Some cars when you put your safely belt on the hand brake release itself.

Just the belt issues Make sure they get done at half the recommended service intervals Edited to add that make sure you've got the updated 40 seconds movement keys that you don't need to put into a Faraday pouch when you park it up at night
