Crazy thing about this war was how it became the first "meme" war for people who grew up on the internet. I remember reading a Vice article about some of the volunteers who left their home countries to join the war for both the Ukrainian government and the rebels in Donetsk. Some of the guys interviewed admitted that they had fought for both sides at some point in their career, and that many of the foreign volunteers knew one another. One Brazilian volunteer went by the alias of "Frank Horrigan", a character from Fallout 2. It just blew my mind that guys who were nobodies back home were fighting both sides of a foreign war. The only thing that separated them was who payed their salary. The interview had some hard hitting truth though, many of them were running away from life problems in their home countries. Just like mercenaries decades before, people who become too alienated or poor in their homeland will do the craziest shit to escape. Some of them joined for glory or a cause to believe in, but the root issue (I speculate) was not having anything to believe in at home. Governments should be paying attention, many come back home just as angry and lost as before, but with combat experience.
This is such a trip! My father emigrated from Hungary to the US in the 70s. Years ago we were in Budapest visiting old family and friends of my father and one of them was László Benkő, the lead singer of Omega! Turns out he and my father lived on the same floor, and even lived in the same apartment during the 56' revolution. I was just a boy when I met him, so I had no idea of what a big deal he was. Fascinating that I would rediscover him years later on this channel.
I am not a soldier. I don't know what its like to be hungry, tired, covered in mud, and nothing but your brother's and your own belief that you will get to sleep soundly again. But as someone who has quietly suffered for many years, I humbly find peace and a kind of kinship in these videos. I grew up wanting nothing more than to be a grunt with a gun fighting for a cause, for my people. Aside got older and met more vets I started to reanalyze if it was really worth it, and when I told my father I wanted to join the army I could see the tears in his eyes. It wasnt until I helped shove dirt on my childhood best friends corpse and heard the three volleys that I realized how much pain death can cause. I cried harder than I have ever cried that day. Tonight I am drunk and trying to pull together a plan to stop feeling anything. But this video helps. I'm not sure why but it does. Do for that, thank you.
Watched this video a few years back, gave me goosebumps, had a memory of it come up while reading a RU-vid comment in regards to Donbas. Honestly what the average westerner doesn’t understand is how deep this war goes, most don’t even realise it’s been going on since 2014, Russia didn’t just up and invade Ukraine one day, there’s a lot of history to this conflict even before the Russian military and Ukrainian military began throwing stones. I love Slavic culture, Sad to think most of these people in this video are no longer alive.
If anyone is interested the song is Gyöngyhajú lány by Omega. Its a hungarian song. Here is the translation I found online: 1. One day the sun, too tired to shine Slept in the deep, green sombre lake And in the darkness, the world did ail Until she came, for all our sake. R.:Oh that girl with pearls in her hair Is she real or just made of air Life went on as before Man would live once more. 2. The dawn did break and she went home Back to the deep, dark seas alone She lives in a world of fairy tales Her lovely hair and only pearls. R.: Oh that girl with pearls in her hair Is she real or just made of air Long since she's been a sleep In the ocean deep. 3. And when you feel lonely and blue A little star will fall on you White child in pearls your way will show As did white stone long years ago. R.: Oh that girl with pears in her hair Is she real or just made of air I know she'll wait for me She will set me free.

So true, but but sometimes you never want to forget -- never want to forget and let your guard down for a possible next time. The war in Ukraine is in a low-intensity phase. Both sides are fighting some kind of budget trench war. Neither seems to have the resources to committ. You could take a car ride from the front, watch the Eurovision song contest in the city and get back again the next day if you wanted.

@@dahlbelzalan5892 You're right about the Donbass, but you're completely exaggerating about the Ukrainians. If anything, they're fascists, because Slavs can't be Nazis at all. Because the Nazi nation wanted to exterminate all Slavic nations including the Ukrainians. This wanted extermination of the Slavs was part of the Nazi ideology. So if a Slav should be a Nazi, then he wants to kill himself according to Nazi ideology. Fascists are not the same as Nazis. Slavs, on the other hand, can be fascists. In any case, the Ukrainian government tolerates fascist units in the Ukrainian army. Whether there are other fascist features in Ukrainian politics is debatable. But one cannot deny that the Ukrainian government is a minion and a tool of the Americans. The Ukrainian government was ordered by the Americans to provoke the Russians and the Ukrainian government did that. The American government wanted this because the war of the Russians against the Ukrainians is very useful to them. Why? To answer this question one only have to know who has very, very, very much influence in the USA and uses this influence to influence American foreign policy. Other states have an armaments industry; in the US, the armaments industry has the state. The US military-industrial complex (MIC) is co-governs namely in USA. The US MIC uses Russia to justify arms spending. The term military-industrial complex is used in socio-critical analyzes to describe the close cooperation and mutual relationships between politicians, representatives of the military and representatives of the defense industry. That explains the cause of the behavior of the USA. The lobby of the MIC now has a state-supporting influence there. The MIC need a potent enemy to justify the armor. In his farewell speech of January 17, 1961, US President Dwight D. Eisenhower expressly warned of the interdependencies and influences of the military-industrial complex in the USA. Eisenhower, himself once the Army Chief of Staff, viewed the military-industrial complex as a threat to democratic institutions and democracy. The influence of this complex on jobs and economic power leads prompt the political leadership to want to solve conflicts militarily rather than politically and thus act as an extended arm of the armaments industry lobby. The American MIC has an interest in the tensions with Russia. The enormous military spending in USA has to be justified and the IS militias are not enough to justify the billions for new weapon systems. Exports to European countries are also greatly encouraged by this conflict with Russia. Strong enemy states like Russia are necessary for this! That is why Russia was systematically made into an enemy partly also with provocations of the Ukraine. The Western media, with their anti-Russian propaganda, is another part of this provocation and production of enmity towards Russia. The ignorant politics should also increase the hostility towards Russia. Russians also make mistakes and simplify the propaganda. The result of this influence of the US MIC is then war not only in Ukraine!
@@GreatPolishWingedHussars Oh dude I know... tbh they literally are. Just replace anti semetism with russophobia in Ukraine. Ukraine and NATO started it. Ukraine bombed Russian people on Donbass for 8 years with help of NATO. They ignored us and diplomacy for years provoking us and wishing this war till the last Ukrainian and used Ukrainian puppet regime as cannon fodder to justify their sanctions and destroy Russia. And NATO just has gone too far with their expansion and pointed missiles at Russia right on Russia's doorstep and threaten Russian soverignty. Ukraine is a neo nazi american puppet war criminal genocidal regime that discriminated Russians for last 8 years after how USA and NATO sponsored coup in Ukraine and intervented and made Ukraine its puppet and placed there their puppets in the government and started create russophobic militaristic regime right on Russia's doorstep pumping Ukraine with billions of dollars for army and fetched all its resources depriving Ukraine from its future and destroying Ukrainian and Russian brotherhood of nations through the russopohibc and nazi propaganda and spreading hatred. Poroshenko and Zelensky are russophobic puppets of the USA that basically genocided Russian people on Donbass for 8 years and they simply left Russia no choice because enough is enough. They thought that they could tease and threat Russia without any consequnces ignoring diplomacy intentionally and now they got what they wanted. And now Ukraine just uses their own citizens as human shields by placing their forces right in living complexes to provoke Russian forces and then blame Russia for it. They don't care about their own people. And everyone here blaming Russia for some "war crimes" or "bombed hospitals" but in reality Azov nazi battalions and Ukrainian military intentionally places their forces right in hospitals, schools etc to blame us after and portray themselves as martyrs. And Ukraine literally bomb their own people as they already did on Donbass. And basically there are lot of nazi elements in Ukrainian puppet government like they literally worship to Stepan Bandera, the nazi collaborator war criminal who aside with the Germans slaughtered Poles, Russians, and even some Ukrainians, look at Azov, Aidar, Right Sector battalions, and the fact that they dishonour the soviet shared history and the veterans and soviet heroes like Lenin although it was he who created the very Ukrainian state itself and gifted lots of territories. And they literally banned Russian language. This is a cultural genocide by the defenition and targeted exactly Donbass in which Russian speaking people live and didn't want to give them freedom. People didn't want to live in the new order of American puppet regime in which they are not allowed to speak their own language and wherethe monuments of soviet heroes are replaced with the nazis. Russia create humanitarian corridors and bomb only military infrastructures while Ukrainian neo nazi battalinos like Azov and Aidar use their own citizens as hostages not responding to Ukrainian government. Ukraine and NATO are aggressors. Finally Ukraine will be free. Zelensky is a war criminal manipulative actor. Seriously let's imagine that after the end of cold war Russia started to build military bases all over south and mezo america and created military alliance right on american doorstep. When Russia reguraly make war games in towards the United States, declaring that they are not directed against the Americans, and at the same time, the Russian Federation accuses the United States of an aggressive foreign policy and the desire to seize neighboring countries based on nothing but the desire of the United States to keep the army in a combat-ready state. The Russian Federation financially and informationally supports a non-systemic position in the United States, and also unfolds anti-American Anglophobic propaganda throughout South and Meso America and, having an incredible propaganda machine, regularly influences the US population itself with huge amounts of money for these purposes. and the ultimate goal of Russia is a color revolution in Washington to replace the power in the country with its puppets in order to learn all the resources from the USA. The Russian Federation begins a military operation in a Middle Eastern country, justifying this by the presence of nuclear weapons that threaten the whole world, but no weapons are found there and millions of people die. And now let's replace everything that I said Russia with the United States and understand how we feel about NATO and USA. This is what nato and usa does to us. We are very patient country and nation. We attacked someone furst only 9 times for thousandth year history while everyone attacked, antogonized and mistreated us. Russia will resist and bite. Russia will prevail and finally we will once again defeat the nazis like we did years ago. NATO are literally modern Axis. Don't be surprised when a cornered bear (Russia) bite back And we must stop Zelensky who is the real nazi (again despite that he is a jewish, just replace anti semetism with russophobia) and is a very manipulative actor and an american puppet who forbid people to speak their own language, just for 1 year he made Ukraine in times more corrupted than Russia, he nationalized every media in a country and made all the media state owned, he started bombing Donbass again, every, even most pro ukrainian journalists got silenced or disapeared just for the slightest critizism against Zelensky, also he right now uses his own people as human shields and place artilleries intentionally in living complexes and schools to provoke Russian forces strike there and then blame Russia, he hold cities as hostages so the people won't be able to escape the humanitarian corridors that Russia made, he uses white phosphorus and still support neo nazi war criminal battalions like Azov, Aidar and Right Sector, also giving weapon to the civilians and create more and more bloodshed and just think with your had why is this bad to give away the weapon to the citizens, and think about who will recieve the weapon. The criminals and looters, who will terrorize the cities and other civilians who already killed lots of other civilians and also Russian soldiers won't have any other choice except fighting the weaponized civilians so they once again could play their "victim" card and blame Russia for it when they started it. Ukraine still will be Ukraine and Russia actually make a liberation and peacemaking operation against that American puppet regime and that junta in Kiev. America basically made their own military base on Ukraine just right on Russia's doorstep and then blame Russia for protecting itself. And now this insane propaganda machine reached the level of apogee and now russophobia is normal all around the west and Russians got fired and there are basically fascist policies against the Russians on the west. West started it and after blame Russia and dehumanize us. Like you can literally be imprisoned for 25 years in Slovakia and Czechia for supporting Russia. And is thie really their precious "democratic, tolerant, free western world" lol? And are you a pole? I thought you are one of the most russophobic countries ever. Isn't? War is the voice of the meaning to life- to struggle for something you truly believe in and struggle hard. What greater struggle is there than the struggle between men and nations on the field of battle? Life is not simply staying alive, sometimes there are more important things than your life and in that irony you find a way to truly live. In that way war is beautiful, just not superficially pretty. She is to cruel of woman for that.

@@hurdygurdyman1905 Biden wants to send good americans to die in a war we have zero business being involved with. Let them figure it out on their own. Besides, Biden *really* doesn't need another Afghanistan. We Fascist type in America really feel the pain these people feel over there, but it's not our war and not our business. We didn't starve the Ukrainians - the Soviets did. The Soviets ruined all the republics and countries they infested, but these former soviet states need to see the mistakes of their ways - the Soviets weren't inherently "Russian" - they were inherently Jewish. They're not 1 and the same.
