Yeah. I really don’t see this as a “great” fight. It’s a great performance from Justin certainly but it’s not a “war” or some classic bout-it’s a savage beatdown that’s honestly hard to watch starting around the midpoint.

A lot of people find it hard to watch, but in all honesty I don't because Gaethje's performance is so mesmerizing especially when you take into account how regarded Tony was before this fight.

one of the best displays of kickboxing you mean? leg kicks really played a big factor for this fight. Tony became very aware of his distance management due to constant leg kicks of Gaethje.

In fact, the only other opportunity Tony had to fight a TOP 5 Lightweight before Justin was against Michael Johnson when Khabib pulled out and guess what, he turned it down because he knew MJ would tap that @$$ again (he lost to MJ Already). He didn't get "old" he just got exposed by the TOP lightweights

Prime Tony ended after that infamous knee injury, but he was still good enough to compete a fairly high level which included this fight. Unfortunately, Justin put on such a horrific beating against Tony it aged him like 10 years. Factor that where Tony didn't take nearly enough time off after this, and you get a washed, old man Tony 😭

Not only that but Justin arguably is the hardest puncher of the division too. Now when you take away his biggest weapon he has nothing to fall back on

Honestly. It would have been so much better for him if he went against khabib. Don't get me wrong. He would have been mauled. But khabib would have been much gentler than this absolute torture He took. He would have taken him down, beat him a bit, then submitted him. It wouldn't have been anywhere near this bad. And Tony probably wouldn't have changed so much after. But who knows. If not this fight he might have taken that punishment the next fight. Or the fight after. Maybe this was always going to happen since he just doesn't want to quit.
