I'm a 65-year-old woman and I grew up with all the great rock & roll bands of the 70s and I am a frustrated drummer. Your instructions were great Thank you!
Hey Lilybelle, I'm with you. In my 60s and just got my first drumkit. I'm writing about my experience and would love to talk to other drummers, beginners and otherwise.
I can't be the only one searching this up even though I don't have drums Update: I'm in a band with my friends and I'm playing the guitar :D Update2: We disbanded :(
As a drummer of 30 years, I can honestly say that this is THE best first beginner lesson for the drum set. Drumeo has absolutely changed the game for online drum content. Everyone is super informative, super nice, and they offer such a giant variety of drumming paths to follow. Jared is the man. So easily spoken and easy to work with and follow along with. Bravo guys 👏👏👏
That was actually quite fun at the end. Even though i can’t afford a real drum kit yet. I’m currently using a pair of chopsticks. The high hat was an empty pot noodle. The snare was the table and the foot beat me just kicking the hollow desk. Actually that last one was very effective
How can people possibly pick on this? He's an excellent teacher, a fine player, the production quality is excellent, the information is good - this is great. And it's free on RU-vid.
I'm 56 female and found out I've got 6 months life left just bought my very first drum kit... I hope to be able play them like a star. and follow ur videos .. Great job ur doing thank u.
I’ve now played drums for 7+ years and been teaching on and off for years. I really enjoyed this video and also realised How far there is to go and how far away it can all seem at the start. If you just started today, or this week, Keep going - it will become so incredible very soon. I was just as happy learning that first best as I am learning the songs I play to now.
My 8 year old nephew wants to play drums. I took up drums when I was like 10ish, but all I had was headphones and trying to follow by ear. I picked up styles and rhythms by just bashing through songs until I could copy the beat. This the greatest lesson for anyone to get! I don't know how to teach my nephew!! This is a fantastic introduction; he can watch this!
The world is your drum kit. Just buy the sticks and use buckets, pots, and pans. My daughter played percussion 4 years in HS band. She hardly touched the drum kit I bought her but beat the crap out of everything else and wore out/broke many a drum stick. Now she’s gone and I’m trying to learn to play her kit.
I'm 16, and 've been wanting to learn the drums for years. This Christmas I've been gifted with a drum set, and I can't wait to start learning, this video was so much fun to follow!
I am 65, I started tap dancing at 40 and love making rhythms so thought this was the natural next step. Thank you for breaking this down Now to get my coordination working!!!
I'm sincerely thankful for your channel, it's basically drum lessons for freakin free!!! I got my drum set a couple days ago and we're re-modeling my room so I have yet to set them up, but watching your videos just get me so freakin excited to play them. I'm very grateful for the effort you guys put into your videos, there just absolutely amazing~ ❤🤘
I would watch this video, get mad that I couldn't get the rhythm down within 20 minutes, stop, not do anything to practice for months, even years and then come back. But watching it this time something clicked in my head and made me realize that, as someone who has only sang and never played an instrument, I'm gonna have to sit here and practice, even w/o a set, until I learn it, because it takes months, years to do something like learning to play drums, and even longer to become very skilled. And, although I'm not close to perfect with even this beat, I feel myself slowly progressing. I've got a new ambition to learn this time around, great video, I'm excited to truly start this process
I bought a drum kit on impulse yesterday, I was scared of the delivery day until I saw your movie. You will probably teach my 3 year old daughter to play. Thank you very much :) Greetings from Warsaw
Thank you so so much for the lesson! I've always dreamt of playing an instrument and have always been fascinated with drums so I just got my first cheap-ass electronic drum set and thanks to you I feel hooked already! It's true that learning how to play your first beat makes you insanely motivated to practice more. I couldn't get it right yesterday but today magic happened and finally I got it down haha
+UItraVice drums are mostly strictly multi-tasking well timed skills and I'm trying to cure myself from the same exact problems you mentioned specially the base timing is when I always missed timed.. good luck mate!
Haven’t seriously picked up an instrument since high school orchestra class, but my youngest has been serious with his guitar lessons and I’ve always wanted to play drums. So here I am, wary 40’s, learning drums. Good times!
I have good rythm, but I struggle with coordination (can't dance or mirror people's movements, no matter how much I want to) so I thought drumming was not going to happen either. But you are a good teacher! I nailed this easily and I am proud of myself :) I have wanted to learn drums, but I thought trying would only make me feel bad. I am going to buy a drum set this summer. Can't wait! I think making noise and hitting something will be good for my mental health too :)
Sadly, I don't have rhythm or coordination. When I clap to a song, I always clap off beat and I struggle with mirroring movements. I was able to pick up on what he taught as well. He's a great teacher, like you said. Were you able to get your drum set? If so, how's working out? If you weren't able to get it yet, no problem. It will happen when it does. Keep us posted!
40 years old and due to pick up my 1st drum kit, always wanted to learn and now taking the step to do it, thank you for your tutorial, I can't wait to play along with more of your tutorials
I'm learning music theory and I'm not playing any instrument, just writing directly into music notation. Your lesson helped me finishing a song. Thanks!
First timer here, obviously... just sniffin' around. I love playing "air" drums in the car to Slaughter and Warrant. And I'm really good too!... in my own decrepit mind. So I came here to see if I can get serious. I am starting with pens and a desk, if I like it and get good I will continue; So far... I'm liking it. What you have taught here makes me feel good and I want to practice until the cows come home, then advance. Thank you for this. My drumming heros are Neil Peart, Robert Sweet Joey Kramer and Tommy Lee.
This is a very important part of drumming. Just basic is better then playing too much. Loved the way you explained all this. I am sure that even intermediate drummers should take head in this. Great job.
I use to play drums when I was 18! I loved the drums so much that I learned how to play a song with pillows and hairbrushes while watching live videos of my favorite bands. When I finally put my drum set together, all mixed matched parts, I was able to play one song. It wasn't a rock or metal classing it was 'talk' by cold play lol! long story short my mom sold my drum set in a garage sale. Broke my heart and I gave up on drums. But I've recently (10 years later) felt the fire burning in me to start again. I will start at the basics! Except for this time I have a 12in practice pad and VF drumstick. I'm ready!
Man, lemme tell ya, you may not get this every day but you've kinda helped me get over what's felt like a lot of bullying in my life. Alright so my band teacher in 6th grade, I really wanted to play drums but I failed the audition. There was no previous training and he believed rhythm was intrinsic and I should already have it I guess? So I played trombone. Anyway. Fast-forward several years and it's 2018-19, I've got a band going. I'm not the drummer, nor do I seek to replace our fantastic drummer. But we only started cuz I bought a shitty first set and used, and he would always be a total passive-aggressive .. hurtful guy whenever I tried to play the drums. I didn't realize how much pain this has inflicted on me until I was playing this rhythm at 100bpm, even when you'd stopped, just like it was before. I always knew I had it in me. No one else bothered to try to teach me. Maybe it's just luck, yanno, and I could've clicked on a different channel first. This is my first drum video, after all. But I like to think you did a fantastic job of relaxing the material enough for somebody who's scared and playing on their first legs. It's hard to take esoteric knowledge and water it down to where it's palatable, especially when you're experienced in that field. That's why not everyone can be a great teacher. Thanks for the fresh start. I already got my free gift. 👍
I wanted to play drums too like 3 years ago but they chose me to play euphonium/baritone,because apparently I wasn’t good at drums. I was 12,and I decided to try it and I never got good so I quit after 7th grade and now I’m a 9th grader and I still want to play drums but my parents never got me drums cause they know I’m not good at commitments and so I’m going to make my own drum set or save up(I’m horrible at saving money tho)and ask for one for Christmas(I’m going to ask both my parents and my adult bro). I been watching tutorials and people and kids drumming on RU-vid since last year too.
I know this is an old comment, but I hope you can keep going. I tried learning drums only a few times. I was in middle school and the after school program had finally added a marching band club in addition to the rock band club. I wanted to try drums (I think the small one) and I made a cardinal sin for crossing the sticks unknowingly. The teacher got really upset and yelled at me. I was too embarrassed and was afraid of the teacher so I just stopped after that. I was also very insecure of practicing with people watching or hearing me play or asking for help. I regret not doing any of that.
Thank you so much big bro. You are now my family. I’m 50 now and I’ve been wanting to learn since 10 years of age . Even in-church I can’t stop looking at the drummer and trying to learn from afar while praising my personal savior the lord Jesus Christ.. thank you so much for being here for me . A blessing that I stumbled on your video from all other videos. Now your my big brother..
Well, I live in a country where garage sales are next to nowhere-seen... My school has a drumset I might be able to use when I don't have any classes tho
I now feel so much more confident starting out :) - it shows that I can just have a mess around with it on a small level and do simple things like this you don't have to jump in the deep end before you learn to swim!
I've been playing guitar for around 6 years and my friend and I are starting a band but we don't currently have a drummer so I'm buying an electric kit and I'm going to try to write and record drum tracks until we find a drummer This video was incredibly helpful thank you man
Think smashing pumpkin 🎃 had the same problem once, then one of the best drumers joined (onfortuanatly he sometimes went missing because of drug abuse), good look.
Wow, Man thanks. After 8 months of gathering dust my set starts to make me smile. Am a complete beginner and just practiced this on Eels - Grace Kelly Blues Such fun.
A friend of mine is moving and getting rid of a drum set. I’ve had interest in playing the drums since I was very little, but my parents told me that drums were only for boys! How sad is that?! I’m in my 50s now. I used to be a singer; and long story as to why I am not anymore, but I hope to get back to it and learn the drums. I think it’ll be fun and I’m also thinking it could be a great workout! Thank you for this video.
I watched this video about three times. I memorized what you showed In the video and I went to my local music store and I asked if if could play their drumsets. I did it!!! Thanks alot. Now I just have to work hard and save enough money to buy a set so I can practice :)
Well explained! I'm a longtime singer/songwriter/guitarist/keyboardist. My drummer left his spare kit at my house before COVID hit and it would be a shame to let it go to waste! Hoping to add my own simple drum tracks to a home recording. I've understood the structures of beats but was unsure how to physicalize it and be fluid. This gives me some clues and convinces me I should be working with a metronome at first. Thanks Drumeo!
I'm happy for this guy. He has been plugging away for almost 20 years at building this channel. I remember in the very beginning he was aggressively marketing Drumeo so much that it was annoying, but definitely helpful for ultra beginners. Good to see where Drumeo is now. edit: I remember seeing his courses in middle school and I'm in my low 30s now...
Jared Falk I enjoy all your videos. I recently bought the beginner pack for $7. Lessons are explained slowly, very detailed and simplified for me to understand. I have been learning a lot and having fun. I will be subscribing to your website for further drum lessons.
i've been learing drums from a teacher with only a drum pad. i wanted to try a song on it but then I realised that the stuff he was teaching me didnt look like the music sheet at all. i learned more from this legend in 7 minutes than I did from 4 weeks of lessons
Ive been wanting to play drums for a long time! I finally got a drumset for Christmas and I just got finished practicing along with the video. I had to pause and practice the exercizes with the highhat and snare drum before being able to put it all together. It took about 15 minutes to finally be able to do them all at once, which isnt bad at all! it just took some getting used to. I'll definietly keep watching these videos. I like em!
Sat at the drums for the first time today. Watched this video and BAM! 💥 I’m playing the drums in 10 minutes! Thank you for the lessons. I subscribed and can’t wait to learn how to play.
Ive never played drums before, and I got a lil groove going after 30 minutes thanks to this video! Now I just gotta work on keeping it constant! Thank you!
I am so glad to have found you! First off I was a midrange beginner and so loved playing and learning more. Fast forward 20 years, we had to make a move and the drums were lost. Several months ago I had a life altering illness, surgery and was in a coma for 3 weeks - then straight into chemo from there. I went from 145 to 95 pounds in 5 months and developed what they are calling brain fog from the surgery and chemo - they say in most cases it will dissipate over time. My hubby thought getting me a new drum kit would help get back my arm and leg strength and coordination started. So the kit is still sitting in need of assembling. I first the life of me can't remember how I liked them setup. I have a friend that once I get it set up will tune it up for me. So I am excited to have found your channel - thank you!!!
Literally same my mom wont let me get a real drum kit soooooo this was our compromise lol. And I'm a boss at it lol in ready for the realtor thing mom!
I've always been interested in the drums! I would always play with my uncle's drum set when I was little, and now I have my very own set! Thanks for the lesson, and you've got yourself a new subscriber.
This is great, My dad is a drummer, he put me on his lap and taught me the rithm, but now I am 42 and I can barely remember what my dad taught me... Love the way you put it... Will help me alot, thanks
Thank's Jared I played drums when i was a kid. Loved it, never learned it, just loved it. Now I'm 58 yo. Just felt like being a kid again so i bought a nice little Ludwig set. But HEY…. What happened to my "skills" from back then?? Not just a LITTLE rusty but VERY…. My wife still turn her eyeballs up in the air when i play, but in get better every day. You got me ont the track with your videos and i just wish to thank you for that.
this is so cool to read man- drums are universal..it doesn't matter if you haven't played in a week, a month, a year, 10 years, all that matters is YOU PLAY, to the best of your ability to be the best you can, and that you have FUN and ENJOY IT- THIS is the most important thing about drumming! :) well done on getting back into it- and hey, we all can improve, believe me! ;)
wow!! I'm 24 years old and after years of wanting to learn the drums, here I am! Glad nothing stopped you from learning it yourself. Hope you have fun with it.
Amazing! Thank you Jared! Your positive and easy-approaching vibe encouraged me to finally get my first kit - and I'm loving it! Keep the amazing work up! 🙏🙌🥁🎵🎶
I have always wanted to learn how to play the drums. Someone recently broke my heart when I was so nice to them, they pulled away. Now it’s time to focus on myself!
I'm totally getting a drum set for Christmas this year and your videos are really helpful to learn they are REALLY fun and do well on making it not boring:D
I downloaded this drum lesson app on my phone, just while i was off work for a bit. Completed all 64 lesseons in 3 days. Never played an instrument in my life. Think i found my calling boys 👏🥁
