As a russian joke goes: in USSR there was no punk, it was post punk straight away. So good to see you guys dig into our culture, as Tsoi really means a lot to 80-90 generation, me not being a fan, but some secret string of a soul are pulled each time i hear this song. I’m a political science student, I know this band from my Russian's policy teacher, I fell in love with Slavic languages and it’s depressing vibes that surrounds it’s people, then the Russo-Ukrainian war started, I have to dig deep into the political shit, learning theory about political maneuvering in this war, when I listen to this band after the war, it makes me feel guilty as hell, I become just a spectator of this war learning soulless political facts when people are dying, it’s almost feel like I’ve lost contact with humanity and it’s suffering, thanks to Victor Tsoi for making me remains intact with humanity. Political, War, nothing is real but suffering, sometimes facts is utterly bullshit and the truth lies still, crying and in pain in one’s heart. Peace to us all.

Zelenskiy defeated Poroshenko in the 2018 elections with 75% support from Ukrainians, promising to restore peace in the Donbas by any means and restore good relations with Russia, his main economic partner. At the time of the election, more than 50% of Ukrainians were in favor of restoring good relations with Russia. In many cities of Ukraine, Ukrainians supported the Russian national football team at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. And now, after 3 months, the policy of Zelensky, who has been on visits to many Western countries, is changing dramatically. And everyone's favorite humorist Zelensky gradually turns into Porosheko over the course of the year. Why ? Because both Poroshenko and Zelensky are most worried about their offshore accounts and are afraid of nationalists. Zelensky officially bans the Russian language throughout Ukraine, and control and penal services have been created that allow fines, including ordinary sellers and doctors who speak Russian. With the consent of the ambassadors of Western countries, he closed 3 TV channels that traditionally promote peace and restore relations with Russia. And now Zelensky has brought disaster to the whole of Ukraine. For 8 years now, Russia has been demanding the implementation of the Minsk agreements, which provided for the return of Donbass to Ukarina on the terms of amending the constitution with the federal status of Donbass and the possibility of electing a government, police and preserving the original Russian language. schools and the opportunity to communicate in Russian everywhere. In 2014, the Ukrainian army killed 14,000 civilians in the Donbass, but in the end suffered a complete defeat. This is a huge figure for a region of 3 million people. For understanding, if you scale to the USA, then this is 1 million 400 thousand victims, including 25 thousand children. Russia in 2104 could easily conquer Ukraine in a matter of days, but did not. It was Russia that forced the leaders of Donbass (I repeat the leaders of Donbass, not Ukraine) to sit down with Poroshenko and sign the Minsk agreements, which many in Russia considered treacherous. Even then, Donbass demanded that Russia recognize its independence. But Russia then did not take this step and gave Ukarina a chance. For eight years, Poroshenko and Zelensky shied away from implementing the Minsk agreements. And already this year, Zelensky and members of his government openly admitted that they were not going to fulfill these agreements, calling them a noose around the neck of Ukraine. The Minister of Defense of Ukraine on open air called Donbass a cancerous tumor on the body of Ukraine. In January, under pressure from the United States and Britain, Zelensky escalated and moved troops to the line of demarcation with Donbass, as well as multiple launch rocket systems and large-caliber artillery (which is expressly prohibited by the Minsk agreements). Russia also pulled its troops to the Ukrainian border. Biden, Boris, and the Western media raised the cry for a Russian invasion precisely on the basis of what had been scripted ahead of time for Zelensky. Zelensky had to initiate an escalation of the conflict, at first he avoided it, then he was forced and the Ukrainian army began intensive shelling of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics. Residents of Donbass found themselves again in 2014, when there were numerous casualties among the civilian population. It was the Ukrainian army, stuffed with Western weapons and instigated by the West, that unleashed the conflict. Of course, Russia was forced to react. And Russia responded. From the very beginning, the United States and Great Britain aspired to this scenario in order to accuse Russia of aggression and the imposition of sanctions. At the same time, what will happen to Ukraine does not concern them. The enemy has taken place, now USA and GB and unite the collective West and tear Europe away from Russia. One of the next steps is liquefied American gas to Europe.

Just a little bit of more explanation of the line "а без музыки и на миру смерть не красна". You did a great job explaining the last part of the sentence with the adjective "red"/"красна" used in the meaning "beautiful", but there is also another word which is used not in the regular meaning - "мир"/"на миру". Though it usually means "a world", here it means "a community" or "a society", and in this combination - "на миру", it means "in public". The whole sentence refers to the old proverb "На миру и смерть красна", which you can translate like "it is easier to die in public/together". So, in my opinion, you can translate the whole sentence "а без музыки и на миру смерть не красна" like "but without music public death is no fun". edit: misspelling

Quite a fascinating piece! I'm just learning about the Soviet-era underground and punk music scene, and I can definitely see why this song was/is a hit- the lyrics are simple, elegant, and profoundly "feelable", even through a layer of translation. Idioms, expressions and puns are some of the hardest things to translate between languages- they often simply don't work at all, and can only be extrapolated or expressed by example. You did a great job getting both the feeling and the meaning across (to my ignorant ears, that's for sure!) so thank you for that!!

Long live Tsoi, Georgi, Yegor Letov, Yanka, Sektor Gaza and everybody else, I love Russia, would love to go on vacation when the peace comes back, btw I'm a politics scholar from Belgium with Moroccan roots, listening to Russian music istead of of Raï, for a lot of people these guys were some kind of sense of free freedom for the people in Soviet Russia and Siberia. I play guitar, I love playing songs of Kino, GrOB, Egor Letov. Last one was Gruppa Krovi and it's bass lines too. I'm conteplating creating a channel and make vids since I play for 15+ years. Got all equipment but kinda nervenous, stuff is tense here if people think you're a sympitiser of Russia, you'll be an outcast, our get legal ttouble. But I don't care really... But still do... But I have multiple Tshirts of Letov, Viktor Tsoi, and to be honest one of Lenin on his propagenda, and I wear them and notice people looking dirty to me. And I'm a very very light skinned Morrocan, might get mistaken for a an eastern. european. Free Palestine t shirts are forbidden, you get fined and some people get kicked out of places for just a shirt. I wear them (The russian shirts I mean) as a statement that I am not a sheep like them, with Tsoi on it, Letov on it and Lenin on it, I Do not openly support palestine because I live in a concervative neighbourhood, might get attacked or worse... lots of racists here, but these shirts have meaning, one says Hochu Peremen (we want change) the letov one says (Everything is going according to plan in crylic). We want change, that carries a lot of weight then you realize, it's not a simple statement looking at everything as is really is. Philosophilcal. I'm sorry for thr tangent, I smoke a joint sometime to relax and I get philosophical, all we want is everybody to get along or at least show respect to each other. These last words... I sound like my mother haha, she raised me the best she could, and I know she's a great mother, she knows I would give her my kidney if she ever needed one. This is a stoned philosophic dude talking, but it's true, wewant change, we need change. I hope for change. But this is reality and there will always be twisted dictators no matte if's the year 3000... Well... all i can say, peace upon you my friends, we say Assalamu Aleykum that's the word and meaning, you learned something today if you read this far. Peace upon you❤

Uh, nope. Definitely not "alien". I understand what you mean. That verse is about alienation and not belonging, after all. But I don't see it working in English really well.
