Makhno,Voroshilov, Budjonny, Frunze, Chapaev and others were talented military leaders who defeated well-educated tzarist generals without ANYONE's help - they managed their troops by themselves. In WW2 there were similar strategists - Huderian and Heppner among them

Was a good warrior and officer in pre world war 2 time, what happened to him during Barbarossa I don't know. He relied too much on cavalry and the time of cavalry has passed a long time ago, it was an era of tank warfare

@broadleygreen Mao did something similar..the party members of high rank after 1949 lived secluded. Glad that you pointed out the class-system i the communist world. These people also had acces to shops with better assortments of goods.

Вторая Мировая радикально отличалась от Первой - и многие маршалы-герои (не только в России) оказались не на уровне новых требований. Для 1918-1922 годов это был полководец из полководцев! Разве что ещё Махно (бивший в хвост и гриву царский генералитет) и Фрунзе (то же самое) превзошли Будённого - он хотя бы имел хоть какой-то военный опыт. Все они (плюс Чапаев)- самородки!

@broadleygreen In a way you are right..Stalin was no "equal" soviet mummy...he had expensive taste and interests.But he spread the myth that he lived spartan...

At least he had a hat named after him! (the so-called Buddenny helmet, that peaked cap with ear flaps that we see the GULAG guards wearing as they abuse prisoners on the way to Kolyma or Vorkuta. I guess regular soviet soldiers wore this hat also. (You can buy replicas of this headgear out of the sports catalogues. They have a big red star on the front) Buy one and all you need is aPPsh 41 and a cattle car and you too can ship disenters off to Siberia! Urah pobeda!

Vroshilov and Budyonny DID have military talent otherwise they would not be able to lead the red troops and defeat the talented white tzarist generals, who epicly lost the Civil war in Russia, Their experience was not applicable to the conditions of WW2 - but this was a GENERAL CASE - marshals Petin and Radz-Smygly epicly lost to Hitler (who was nothing in WW1 time) - these were different wars.

@nedeljko18 Stalin liked this old tsarist cavalry, because of his stupidity he was harmless like his buddy,Vorosilov. Two drunken cavalry soldiers, Stalins comrades, who survived him.

Nestor Makhno, leader of the Ukraninan Revolutionary Liberation Army of anarchist-communists. He defeated Ukranian and Russian generals and saved the young Russian Socialist Republic from the foreign and white guard counter-revolutionary intervention.

Budyonny did win over tsarist general..former tsarist officer serving in the red army together tosome extent with that bloodthirsty and complaining jew Trotsky, wholater fell victim to the same system that hehelped introduce. Most able people in the USSR,engineers,officers and scientists where shot by Stalin in 1937, leaving the field open for Lysenkos,Voroshilovs,Vyshinskies and this ex

I don t know about the others but neither Budjonny nor Voroshilov had any talent at all..Voroshilov showed that in the winter war with Finnland in 1939, it was the ex-tsarists officers serving the bolsheviks that have talent..and to some extent that ape Trotsky who took the officers families as hostages to make them loyal. Zhukov and Chuikov were the talanted ones...not Stalin and his two drinking buddies and slaves.

Blücher or Tuchatchewski would have known better what to do in Finland I'm sure. But the winter war was a terrible idea from the start.
