Toya just wanted to be recognized and make Endeavor proud of his power, but it wasn't enough. He saw his brothers Natsuo and Shoto being born and growing up. When he realized that Shoto became the son with the perfect individuality for Endeavor, he freaked out and said horrible things to his mother, ran away from home to train alone and caused that fire, resulting in his current bodily state. As for Shoto, he just wanted to have a happy and normal childhood, without having to train hard every day since he was 5 years old, without having to see his mother being attacked by Endeavor and especially being able to play with his older brothers. If Endeavor hadn't pressured him so much, he would be happy and without that scar on his face. However, like an abusive and narcissistic father that Endeavor was, Shoto never got what he always wanted, to be happy with his brothers and mother.
