Vasily Ignatenko was a firefighter of the independent militarized fire station No. 6 of the city of Pripyat, was in the first shift, who came to extinguish a fire at a nuclear power plant on the night of the accident. As a result of heavy exposure, on April 27, 1986 he was taken with other firefighters to a Moscow hospital for treatment. The dose of radiation received was very high. Vasily died on May 13, 1986. He was buried at Mitinsky cemetery in Moscow.
