Nice work Zach, really like your sound packs. The pan thing that you mention isn't a bug. It is central despite not appearing to be. This occurs with all MIDI controllers that we have tested. Push communicates in a different way.
+NovationTV You guys are great at making products please keep it up. Along with the ideas your using to pioneer this idea of electronic music is inspiring to people around the world. Keep it up.
+NovationTV Also the price of 299$ is horrible. To be honest, I've read over 5+ reviews and they all have the SAME answer. I'm not trying to degrade your product I'm just saying it makes no sense how you go from $169.00 to $299.00 maybe it's an idea to control the public by simply making the buttons "easier" or you added easier options like the various buttons on the bottom left hand side and the bottom aswell. Honestly I am still curious how the price jumps to that high of a margin for those complex add-ons.
+Alex Apart from the fact that it is technologically improved in every way over the last one, do you know of any other 64 velocity sensitive RGB pad controllers with a price this low? No, really, if you do I really want to know!
i really appreciate your efforts bro. no plain talk show, but showing the real deal how any of us viewers would be doing with the device when youtube is switched off and we are all by ourselves with the device. thank you.
I recently bought the LaunchPad Pro and I never had any issue of accidentally hitting the record arm button while finger drumming. But Mad Zach has a point and the buttons are close by so there is a risk. Anyways i'm loving the unit and it is certainly a huge improvement from my LaunchPad Mini. =)
I think its worth it if you need a small, compact, supplemental unit for clip launching. As for finger drumming I feel the buttons are too small and there are other options.
+DJ Tech Tools I bought one of these, but am very disappointed as to the lack of instructional resources out there. It is not made to be very user friendly for people with no prior launchpad experience, and the manual is very brief and does not explain the usage of the product very well. I have slugged through it and made a few tracks on it, but with the potential that I can see lurking just below the surface, I am very frustrated owning something I can't delve into in a richer and more fulfilling way. I am pleased with this video, because it gets into some of the things I had initial questions about, but there is just so much more to this. Zach is the man for this though. Thanks +Mad Zach , this is the best thing I've found in my quest to move into live-production versus simply spinning records.
The one thing you've not mentioned is its midi interface allowing you to control external hardware directly - this makes it an effect an alternative to the keyboard as controller for hardware synths n modules. The latest Pro on the scene, the Mrk3 goes one better with its on board sequencer, but if you have the Novation circuit you could use its sequencer for your hardware, and bag one of these older Pros at its cheaper price point.
There's some fantastic Sound Packs and I am not sure if I have missed them or they are yet to be released, because either way I'd love to use them, mainly the last pack and the one during the demonstration of the switched drum set. Otherwise fantastic video, will determine if I want to keep my 2 old Launchpads (Old original and the S version) Big ups Mad Zach as always for being a boss.
damn zach, i was seriously considering purchasing one to cover for Push when I didn't want to use it. glad you make reviews with your balls, but you could mention all the features and whatnot! it has aftertouch, after all, which most things cannot claim.
+Forehand Anhyzer there's an accompanying article where I went into more depth on that stuff: djtechtools.com/2015/09/01/mad-zach-reviews-launchpad-pro/
The bottom buttons thing is more of a hand-eye co-ordination thing than anything else. Tell this to someone who is a gamer that regularly plays something like Starcraft, Warcraft, any rts, and even faster paced fps on pc. Point is, you should get use to where your controls are before doing anything live (if this isn't common knowledge already).
shouldve kept the gunmetal grey case, though I understand why they got scared and went with all black, but now with that orange bottom, it looks like a halloween, and the font looks like the old launchpad, little things like that affect sales in a market that's already niche and most people happily midi mouse it. im buying this for the interactive lights & aesthetics, so clearly the grey case they had initially was better. this is gonna sound petty, but now im out. the mini should be rgb lights, they never get it right.
Id bet you get mad when folks tell you that thing you got ready, was a computer. In fact you set a click and started it right before saying you weren't going to use it. I thought it might be impossible since there's no internal sounds.
Nice review. I'm ndw to Abelton. Can I use the LPP with EZ Drummer to do finger drumming and sequence them outside of Abelton, or do I have to use Abelton as a sequencer? Can Push do this? I'm a JAZZ saxophonist and pianist. Thanks!
ipwnchromejailbreak And some people should stick to Marshall stacks and 7 string guitars and stop attempting to participate in a genre that requires more than just a fancy piece of equipment.
+M. Williams you are butthurt? just because you play an instrument doesnt make you anymore of a musician then anyone else..... You are clearly just angry at life
I'm thinking of starting to make music with the launchpad and learn how to use them and maybe get into serious making music. Anyway which would you suggest would be better to start with the launchpad MK2 or the Pro. Thanks and love the video.
they could just put the other buttons to the right side of the pad and that could be helpfull so that it cannot be pressed accidentally when the djs playing live.
I figured it all out. The sound packs contain a .alp file, which when run, it will install all the samples. Then you can go in to the packs, which contain an Ableton project file, and from there you can use them. Yes they are in the form of drum racks.
I no nothing about launchpads and using them. I have the launchpad pro. What do you recommend for me to learn how to use this... I have used their tutorials, but they dont help.
Your dumb as fuck. You're a prime example of a goofy kid who saw this thing online or heard from a friend and bought it just because. No real interest in music its just the new "Cool thing" with this generation.
im new to launchpad pro can someone help me plz? although i watched the get started video that novation provides, i still dont know how to put track on the midi tap in Ableton live, there is no sound when i drag a file in the midi colum there is no sound when i tap the key pad on the launchpad
Can i use this without ableton? how do i use this with my DJM if im on DVS in Serato with one laptop? Does it mean running serato and Ableton together in one laptop or do i need another laptop? If so, then how does the sound output from work with my mixer? I like this product but connecting and seting it up with my existing DJM and CDJ is what is confusing me!
+Friedrich Staufenbiel its called Quantum Vacuum Shock and it is on my newest EP: saturaterecords.bandcamp.com/album/mad-zach-quantum-shock-strtep035-strt010
Why ask something so stupid...It's called improvisation...I don't think anything we heard is a part of any recording. He's grooving with his own sounds packs!
holy shit i am in tears.. the break down about the buttons at the bottom... was exactly how I imagined the trainwreck going when I first saw that piece of gear... DisasterPad Pro...
Annye Bennett You don't upload them to the launchpad. You upload it to ableton, fl studio or any music program and the launchpad plays the clip or sample.
i need help On the launchpad pro everytime i try to use user mode it does not work only session mode and note mode so someone told me to press the setup button and press the green top left button but everytime i press the green button and let go setup button nothing works the light either the samples nothing works and when i turn it off and turn it back on it goes back to note mode so please someone help me i wanna play my project files
+Jglaunch!1 you have to remove the current version from your computer and then go to the website and download the previous version and install it. After that, when you launch Ableton, make sure you have auto update disabled in preferences
+Jglaunch!1 I'll give you steps lol 1. Uninstall Ableton live from your computer 2. Go onto Ableton.com and log in 3. Click account and you should see your version of Ableton live 4.under that it should say download older versions of live can be download from the archive. Click on that 5.download live version 9.5 and install 6. Go into preferences and turn off auto updates 7. Enjoy!
