As we are on a KIA Track Day this weekend we did not only collect some cool footage of the Stinger GT Facelift (2021) but also did this short test with the all-new 2020 / 2021 KIA Sorento plug-in hybrid AWD, delivering 265 hp & 350 Nm. I suppose that it would be quicker if the safety systems, traction control (esp) and ac were off. In anyways it is still agile for its class

There is a Sorento that does 0-60 (sorry U.S. mph) in like 6 seconds flat I think right? I'm surprised they didn't pep it up even more like the Rav 4 prime using the electric motor for acceleration. I'm sure the Sorento is much heavier but I'm curious how close they could have gotten to their gas 2.5L version.

All Kia hybrids use the electric motor for acceleration unless the state of charge is very low. Almost utilize a dual clutch transmission and a parallel hybrid configuration capable of EV only acceleration (EV only acceleration occurs in various situations: Battery is at least 75% charged - a soft enough foot will utilize ev only propulsion even at high speeds (65 max), at highway speeds the electric motor will engage (at least 75% charged; speeds of under 70 will see electric motor only operation until state of charge is 50% or less), speeds are at 20 mph or less and not with a heavy foot, unless batter state of charge is under 25%, or if you let off the gas pedal for over a second, turning off the engine and thus only allowing the electrical system to operate until battery state of charge or demand requires kicking in the gasoline engine. The electric motor will almost always assist the gasoline motor when accelerating relatively fast, and going at a relatively high uphill grade while trying to maintain speed. The electric motor will ALWAYS assist the gasoline engine when going from a standstill (launch), as dual clutch transmissions benefit from the electrical motor assisting from standstill.

Thanks for the upload. Could you test the RAV4 Prime (Plug-in Hybrid) next time, please? It's very fast, though it failed spectacularly the elk test in Sweden.

as a Kia Sorento 2021 driver myself, I think this is because sport mode only goes on gas, it automatically takes it off full electric once you switch to sport mode. but sport mode is definitely the faster mode.

Too slow. The Hyundai Tucson 2021 hybrid does it in 6.8 seconds. The plug in would be faster.

I have a 2017 kia sorento V6 AWD with 290 hp 6 speed auto that does 0-60 in 6.9s. 8.3 for the 265hp phev is a bit disappointing the 2.5T 280hp does 0-60 in 7.4s I think I would still rather drive the turbo version or the plug-in hybrid because the V6 is not torquey at all and rather slugish in eco mode, and less efficient. it really needs rpms to move and feels much slower than my 8s 111hp fiat 500e in daily driving. the other advantage of the old V6 is towing, but I'm not using it. I'm a bit disappointed that the new turbo engines with more torque and 8 speed DCT is not quicker, but I think in real life it will have better throttle response, torque, and quicker transmission the V6 is sluggish in eco mode and drinks more fuel in normal or sport, even when you are driving smoothly.
