@@IraEremeychik I like more where I live, the Pest side, because I like the.vibrant city life, the grandiosity and the energy of this part. But definately the higher quality of life belonging to the Buda side, it's interesting fact that the average life expentancy in the district 2nd (Buda hills) 10 years longer, than in the district 8th. (Pest). The 1-2-12th district life expectancy same like in Netherland or New Zealand, meantime the 8th-17th-23th districts closer to Macedonia and Samoa. Also of course, Buda's income level is also completely different, much higher than Pest's. So I think Pest's inner city (7 th district party quarter, 8th district student quarter, 6th district art quarter) more for the younger generations life style, until Buda is for the adult, family and elder people. And you know Budapest itself loosing it's population, because richer people moving into the very nearby Buda Hill and Pilis Hills areas, also to the surrounding northern (Dunakeszi), Southern (Csepel island) and Eastern (Gödöllő basin) places, into the small, but very high quality villages. With this the city 1,7 million people, but this is tricky, because the metro or urban area of Budapest together with the city is 3,1 million people, and this number, on the other hand, does not decrease, but rather increases....This is why you can feel, that Budapest looks it's much more crowded than the numbers would suggest, because the entire city environment is much larger than the city itself within the administrative boundary.

Budapest was bombed 13 times by the Americans, while the Russians also fired artillery. The first Soviet tank appeared in the city limits on November 3, 1944, and Budapest surrendered 102 days later.

Слышала, что нацисты когда вошли в город - заняли центральные здания, в качестве квартир и офисов. Поэтому их не разрушали целенаправленно и многое сохранилось) Но все равно исторический центр сильно пострадал, и здания потом серьезно восстанавливали. А про туалеты не слышала даже, прикольно 😄 Про Хельсинки у меня, кстати, тоже слоилось впечатление пустынного города. Но я была всего пару дней - зимой, наверно надо основательней приехать)

Yes, Budapest bombarded and that was a huge siege in the Buda Castle, where the germans fortressed themselves, when the Russians surrounded them. Germans tried to breakout, but russians just massacred 40.000 of them in a bloody night. Althrough Budapest not destroyed same way as Berlin or Warsaw or Dresden, 80% of the city stayed intact, but with wounds. The fight was from house to house but with machine guns or smaller artilleries, which not caused irreparable damage to the strong stone buildings. Worst was that the germans blowned up all the classical bridges, but later we rebuild all except one, but that look better than the original with it's Golden Gate style. (Elizabeth bridge or White bridge)
