For those who aren’t aware, this is not salt, nor some illicit substance. Rather, this is calcium carbonate, at its purest form. In the wild, snails will normally have a diet of calcium rich foods, such as broccoli, peas, okra, and the list goes on. This calcium rich diet allows their shells to calcify, and become hard. However, when raised in captivity, they’re unlikely to get enough of these calcium rich foods, so snail owners will give their snails supplementary calcium carbonate to make up for that.
