In this video, I’m going to explain what a Launchpad is, and demonstrate how you can use it. This tutorial is suitable for beginners, and requires no previous experience! I’m going to also give a demo of how track are made, with an example audio file.

This video is a bit older, but I want to let you know, that it helped me tremendously during the first hours with my launchpad. Every other videos were all over the place, this is structured and presented in a calm and friendly way. Not everyone who is an ableton wizard is a good teacher.... You are a good teacher.

Just got a Novation Lauchkey Mini for Christmas and I am new to Abelton, but these instruction were so concise. Very well done. I can now see how Abelton would be so well suited for live productions, like triggering a wav file for a DJ. Very intriguing.

some form of Ableton Lite comes free with every Launchpad. Also I'd just like to say you might want to try User One Mode, that's where you assign an instrument to a midi slot and press the button to the right of the Overview pad and it works like a piano.

I just bought the mini mkII for my sons 15th and I'm looking forward to using your guides to help us. Such a great guy teaching the basics in a clear informative manor. I wish there was more out there for use with Logic Pro now that logic has added launchpad use in live loops. I believe like GarageBand, there are some pre installed samples that comes with the app that you have to manually install by going onto the ableton software app or website. You can also import your own mp3 or wave clips.

It's funny how one example can make what has been a confusing process finally make sense. I'm a Logic user but I noticed that everyone was raving about Ableton so I took the plunge and purchased both Live 10 and a Push 2. No matter how much I tried to understand the workflow it just didn't make sense to me. I was used to looking at one screen like every other DAW and seeing the results as I recorded. So I ended up selling the Push and was going to give up Live. I just happened to find your video and when you compared clips to Excel "cells" the light went on. Suddenly it all began to make sense. It may sound silly but for this technologically challenged man you turned a light on in my head and I appreciate it!

Hey there, thanks for getting in touch! You can either google a Launchpad project file for that song, or you can get the audio file and chop it up in to bits in Ableton to trigger with the pads. I hope this helps!

Brilliant tutorial John! I bought my 10yo son a Launchpad for XMAS 'cos he had seen it and loves playing with music. He saw what people on utube were doing with it and figured it was just a matter of plug it in and start mixing. But we just couldn't work it out, so it has been in the box ever since. I was recently gifted a launchpad and a few other goodies. I've been making DnB for about 20 years, but the majority of it was done solely with software. I'm excited to have a more hands-on setup. Now I just need to learn how to use it, lol

Hey, thanks for getting in touch. The main app on the computer is Ableton Live, available on Mac or PC. You can also use the Launchpad with the Novation Launchpad app for iOS. I hope this helps!

I wish I'd found this video last year. I'm an older guy, not used to the LaunchPad concept, and had almost given up on the thing. My wife almost convinced me to sell it off. I'm glad I didn't.
