Let's not deny this, guys: Despite the Wii U being a huge commercial failure, it had a great library of games. It's a huge shame the console itself didn't do very well.
I honestly feel like a big reason was their decision to name it the Wii U. I had no idea the Wii U was a separate console, I just thought it was like a pro version of the Wii
The fact that Nintendo is over 100 years old is amazing, from simple playing cards to the most nostolgic games. Only 1880s kids remember the playing cards
One day, we will look at super smash bros ultimate and say "those were the days." Hard to imagine video games being more advanced and detailed than they are today
Fun fact: Mario was formerly named Mr. Video, as he was a video game character. Miyamoto renamed Mr. Video, Jumpman, due to the fact that he jumps a lot. While shipping Donkey Kong to a ware house in America, the landlord is named Mario Segale. Miyamoto named Jumpman Mario, saying: “I thought that Mario is a good name.”
@@Lucas-mi2tt What are you five? RU-vid says you have to be 16 to be on RU-vid and you can go on RU-vid in 13 with the request of your parents so unless your dumb I have no idea what your talking about.
The GameCube is still my favorite console of all time,Luigi’s mansion, double dash,Super Mario Sunshine are classics, and they have such a nostalgic feel to them. The 3DS is my favorite handheld console, the 3D effects add so much detail and has so much fun games on it.Also the Wii-U is really good, with games like Nintendo land,Splatoon and New super Mario bros U,and the graphics were a major improvement.
Glad Nintendo is still fighting in the console bussiness despite their ups and downs over the years! The gaming world is benefited so much with Nintendo in than without.
Nintendo has had so many downs because they are not afraid to experiment, unlike Xbox and Playstation. Xbox and Playstation are popular consoles because they stick with what they know has worked before and heavily improve on it more and more. Nintendo just takes a different approach than them where they constantly try new things they've never tried before, no matter the risk of it completely failing, out of curiosity. I say go for Xbox or Playstation if you want a console that is a good console by purely objective standards, and go for Nintendo if you want a console that is unique and has ups and downs to it that no other console has. I trust Xbox and Playstation if I want the best when it comes to measurable standards (frame rate, memory, graphics, security, etc.) and I trust Nintendo if I want a unique and innovative experience other consoles cannot give me, like handheld consoles.
Imagine buying a Nintendo package of instant rice, riding in a Nintendo taxi to a Nintendo love hotel, where your wife becomes pregnant and you child gets the first Nintendo electronic toy
Nintendo invented so many things that are considered a staple in the gaming industry, handheld consoles, wireless controller, motion controls, rumble and even virtual reality.
The D-pad, motion control, wireless controllers, detachable joycons... Its very clear that Nintendo is not afraid to push the limits of gaming... Can't wait to see what the come up with next, flop or not
@@jakobwedel3168 Nintendo does try to improve consoles, they improved the game boy, Nintendo ds etc. and they also improved the Nintendo switch with an oled model.
The Wii U may have done poorly but it had some great features. The gamepad allowed you to still continue your game even if someone else is using the TV, and that was enough of a selling point for little me
@Carver Ze Derp I had assumed that there would be a DS/3DS slot on the system or add on like the Super Gameboy but they never took advantage of both their products that dual screens. Meanwhile, homebrew hacks make that possible. Marketing for the Wii U was horrible, but Im one to believe that if the Wii U had DS functionality, the Wii U would have sold many being that the DS/3DS had such a high install base. Even with some households having 2 or more DS/3DS handhelds. Definitely wasted potential, though I loved the system. Though I like my Switch as well, it came out way to early.
I never ask my dad for buying WiiU. Because Mobile Game dominating Gaming. Until I'm buying Switch with my effort at least 2-3 month (I buying Animal Crossings edition because prefer to Pastel Mint & Pastel Blue JoyCon, I never buy Tsum Tsum Party Edition because "Too Bright" JoyCon color than Pastel like Lavender & Pastel Pink)
I’m pretty sure, since it’s a hand held device. It may have sparked or inspired the hand held model of the Nintendo switch. This is just a theory of mine. I don’t know if it’s true.
What a nice travel down memory road this was for me. Super Mario World was the 1st game I played at my cousin's house and then the following year I got a N64 the Christmas year it came out and omfg that was amazing.
Fun fact: A medic from a war carried a gameboy inside hes pocket. It was bombed many times but surprisingly the gameboy was still ok and playable. Showing how strong nintendo consoles were. Edit: fixed a grammar mistake
Besides the Evolution of Nintendo, we've also made videos about the evolution of other game consoles, such as: Evolution of Xbox: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ywtQ2V9TI-M.html Evolution of PlayStation: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QKEZDm95-Ps.html Evolution of Sega: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jpYBdZkpYg4.html
Odd you missed out the AGS-101 (bright backlit) variant of the GBA SP that came out alongside the Game Boy micro in 2005. Also no mention of the Super Game Boy, Super Game Boy 2 or Game Boy Player. And the "2022" in the title is misleading because it's a March 2021 video so doesn't have the Switch _OLED Model_ or the Game & Watch Legend of Zelda.
Fun fact: the ds lite has a brightness toggle so you can change the brightness unlike the ds. Edit: thanks for the likes Edit 2: whoever liked thanks I never had this many
I truly believe that the NES is the most important gaming system in history. It single handedly revived the ENTIRE gaming market after it was dead. Without it, who knows where the whole gaming ecosystem would be. I'll tell you we wouldn't be THIS far with graphics and just awesome games in general without Nintendo. And it's not even a debate to me
I was skeptical to watch this since it is around 30mins, but after I finished it I felt like only 5 minutes has gone by. A very good explanation, keep it up!
forgot to mention that a US soldier's GameBoy was damaged when their barracks were bombed during the Gulf War and still works.i think its displayed at a Nintendo museum or store in new york .
@@alucardofthe9thcircle792 yep; I live in NY and in the NYC Nintendo store they have a few displays of rare consoles/every console ever made and they have that original gameboy on display as well.
@@OfficialJJMechanics no it has a dc input on the side for hooking up to that external battery/plug in adapter. Thats whats plugged into it keeping it on.
I’ve had the Wii, Wii U, and now the switch, it’s cool to see how far Nintendo has come, and to see how the graphics and gameplay have improved over the years.
ive been thinking of getting the Oled Switch, im just scared that Nintendo will be putting out a new console right after comparing the the PS5 and XboxX that just came out...450$ is a pretty hefty price
No matter how things turn out in the gaming industry and even if Nintendo Flops here and there, it will still always be my favorite video game company. While the rest of the gaming world worries about super realistic graphics and everything Nintendo is still at the root of what made it great to begin with and I will take that over the rest any day.
I will continue to stan and support Nintendo to the last of my days. They aren't afraid to stand out or try something new, and I have to respect that. I've had a N64, GameBoy Color, SP, DS, GC, Wii, Switch... They just do it for me. 💕
Seeing that clip of Mario Kart on the Wii brought back so many memories of me and my dad racing across those mushrooms. They’ve had their highs and lows, but whatever you think about them, Nintendo was huge for the game community.
Well like many other consoles at the time, it really wasn’t a necessity. Future consoles will probably scrap the idea all together as it takes up for hardware which could be used for other things.
seeing how successful Nintendo is. its really surprising to find out that the company was founded in the late 1800's, is almost 150 years old, and started out as a small company that makes playing cards.
The Wii mini was not exclusively released in Canada. About 6 months after being released in Canada it briefly was available in the US as well for around $100
27:29 I remember playing this game for the first time on my Wii U back in December 2017. I also remember grinding the hell outta it and getting all shrines and almost 1/3 of the korok seeds. Magical times…. 6 years later and here I am today, continuing my fun with BotW and playing TotK for the first time on my Switch. That opening cutscene makes me feel a wide variety of emotions…
I didn't realise how much the ps1 oversold the n64...Nintendo really created a monster 😂 I'd still love to see the alternate timeline where Nintendo sticks with Sony and the CDi never gets made. I wonder what the video game market would look like today
Brings back so many memories of my early childhood to now. I remember when I was very little, I had the N64 where I first played MARIOKART. Then I was later given as a present the Game Boy. And then I remember later on I wanted the GameCube which I got I think either for my birthday or for Christmas. And that’s where I first played Animal Crossing. I played the other versions on the other systems as well. I then asked about a year or two later Santa for a blue DS Lite, and a few years later I got the DS i XL which was a surprise present from my grandma. And when I graduated from middle school, my grandma got me the Wii as a graduation present. I eventually also got the 2DS only because it was slightly cheaper and now I have the Nintendo Switch. I still love them all and Nintendo to this day! Animal Crossing, Super Mario Bros., MARIOKART, MARIO PARTY, and all the other classics are still my favorite to this day. And I can’t wait to see Super Nintendo World when it opens at Universal Studios!
Long live Nintendo which revived the gaming industry with gaming ‘s most important console, the NES. Your animation and transitions is amazing and some of the best I’ve seen.
I grew up playing GameBoy and I still think Nintendo is unrivaled when it comes to fun and shared experiences. Sure there’s good games among the competitors, but no one does shared gameplay quite like Nintendo. I enjoy many titles by myself on other consoles, but when I wanna play with friends I pick the switch every single time. I also like that Nintendo keeps their games animated. Personally I think that style is more appealing than hyper realistic titles
can we just appreciate how much effort Nintendo put into their Nintendo cards? I remember being a young kid in the 1880's, having so much fun playing that card game!
I agree mate! In fact, I can’t wait to play my Nintendo Wii on my Samsung 6 Series 75 inch TV via my AV to HDMI converter that’s coming in the mail soon.
Game genie was the thing you put on the game an then put the game in your console an you could enter cheat codes out the game genie book for the nes..super ninetendo an some other consoles I thought
Time for the Official Pokemon RU-vid Channel to also allow the rest of all the Pokemon episodes, shorts and holiday specials to be viewed in full-length on it along with the movies.

My family has had ALL gaming systems yet Nintendo has always proven itself to be my favorite one & watching all of this evolution I guess i understand why. They are so creative and innovative! Just wow! This video was so interesting!
A technical curiosity: A nes controller it's a mere generic 4021 chip that converts parallel inputs (the buttons) into a serial output, which makes easy to use them in electronics, the Super NES controller is made with two 4021 for extra buttons :D
For me it all started with the SNES when I was 9. I still remember having to choose between Sega and Nintendo... then had a Game Boy (like everyone else), a N64 and a GC. When the Wii came around I stopped playing console games and focused on the PC. Two weeks ago I finally decided to get a Switch, and even though I was hesitant at first because I'm spoiled by super high framerates / resolutions / quality, I have to say the polish of Nintendo games (and hardware) has always been something else. I kinda regret I missed the 3DS and I might pick up a used one...
@@unused7629 i just bought a second one as back-up. I suspect China will not be producing or cloning the 3D factor anytime soon so unless something new comes out, this is all the handheld 3D we're going to get for a while. And prices are going up.
i didn't thought, Nintendo has gone through alot. from selling products to gaming, i see why it makes Nintendo a little special to the gaming community. despite the ups and downs this company having, they still continue to be creative. things like this, should be featured on to Nintendo, to show the journey this company have.
Just watched this today, amazing how about 50% of all Switches sold were just in the past 2.5 years. It was already out for almost 4 years at the making of this video, interesting to see how it wasn't as popular at launch as it was in the long run
