סרט תיעודי (יתכן שחלקו מבוים) על יהודי מרוקו בליווי קריינות באנגלית המתארת את הקהילה ואת תהליך היציאה של היהודים ממרוקו אחרי הפיכתה למדינה עצמאית (1956) כתהליך המוביל לקראת חיסול הקהילה. בסרט נראים בתחילה מראות כלליים מהעיר קזבלנקה ורחובותיה ולאחר מכן בוא מתמקד ביהודים: "המלאח" (השכונה היהודית) של קזבלנקה ותושביו, בית-ספר יהודי מודרני (ילדים לומדים עברית, משחקים ושרים בערבית ועושים קבלת שבת וקידוש), כפר יהודי בהרי האטלס והחיים החקלאיים בו, פעילי עליה באים כדי לשכנע את תושביו לעלות לארץ, תושבי הכפר שהשתכנע יוצאים בשיירה רגלית ועולים לאטובוס בדרכם לאוניה שתוציא אותם ממרוקו.

nice video but it is also skipping a very important period for the jews of Morocco and their love to Morocco. I am a normal person from Morocco (berber muslim) who has traveled the world and raised in the south of morocco. When my parebts had to work in theire fields before, I was left by my neighbours who are our berver jewish and we were all one nation who is Amazigh berber. I love my country

Quite an interesting propaganda video. The video tried to portray that Jews were discriminated against and put in a ghetto. The fact is the Mellah is a neighborhood of the old medina of Casablanca. And their was no difference between it and the rest of the medina. Morocco was a poor country after independence and both populations were as poor.

Not all. They were rich jews Families. Many of jews liked to live in malah or old City because it was near for theirs shops. In Fes they lived near the palace or saouira was jews City. Also in the quantries they lived with the Peoples. All moroccains they traveled around Morocco the years when there did not rain.

Melah exist in many moroccan cities, not just Casablanca. Jews weren't secluded in those neighborhoods. They lived side by side by the rest of Moroccans.

Ma mère qui est morte en 2001 me parlait toujours d une amie juive ( Masouda ) . Elles habitaient la même maison à Casablanca ( arssat ftiehate ). Elle était pour ma mère une sœur. Et moi né en 1957 , j ai beaucoup de sympathie, respect et amour pour cette femme que je n ai pas connue. Cette famille a immigré vers Canada d'après ma mère.

Mellah means "salt". El Mellah means "The Salt District". The Jewish community was known to have a thriving salt trade. Thats where the name comes from. I'm a former Peace Corps volunteer based in Morocco for two years. Don't believe 80% of the nonsense in this video.

I grew up in the 70s in mellah side by side by my fellow Moroccan, who happened to be Jews. We were like family. I called them aunts and uncles. I still remember aunt Hannah and her warm hugs, uncle Kwehen who was always kind to me to let me play with toys at his wearhouse, uncle Mardokh spicy and delicious sandwitches, Boutboul songs that filled our house... why you didn't mention those kind of stories and memories?

Moroccans for the most part are tolerant today. But during the late 40s and 50s, problems did exist for Jews that should not be ignored. Several massacres did take place. Remember the riots in Oujda and Jerada in 1948? Many innocent Jewish civilians were ruthlessly killed by their neighbors. Obviously, news spread quickly to Jews in other cities about what had happened and fear and anxiety prompted so many Jews to leave for Israel and France in search of more opportunities and safety

Just to make it clear, The Jews of Morroco as a whole and as a community were religious/zionist from a Jewish perspective, The movie is obviously designed to portray the life as negative [in morroco] that is not true either, The reason Jews left morroco and Moved back to Israel is their belief in Jewish TORA and the love to Zion, Israel.

As a Moroccan, I have no problems to see jews living among muslims in harmony. They did it for many centuries. For me, It's sign of diversity and richness. However, many things changed since 1948, seeing all the crimes and killings againt palestinians by the jews of Israël.

@auraxorange Just to make it clear the events you are describing did happen but not in large scale. You need to differ from what some minority groups did to the official policy of the King that was and is still in favor of the Jewish life in morocco. Don't mis-understand me as to the importance of the alia to Israel. but the last thing I am is in-correct, You can check facts and not rumors or stories;

I agree, and I try to educate the Hebrew people to understand that Tamazigh land is not Arab. Also, in Hebrew Barbar means a beautiful thing from the wilderness and nature and the power of God in the wilderness. It is a beautiful meaning because our culture reveres the land so it means something deeper than I can explain in English.
