Wheat is a self-pollinated crop and being a hardy crop its pollination process is not hampered with slight changes in environmental condition especially normal wind. In this video, we have highlighted that when and how pollination process is accomplished in wheat crop. Early planted wheat crop is not affected by blowing of wind at pollination stage. Late planted wheat crop may be affected by hot wind blowing at pollination stage.
Being an Assistant Meteorologist, I have been keeping an eye watch on the changing trends of our climatic condition of previous 3-5 decades.
Abrupt change (rise) in temperature leads to forced maturity, wheat grains shrivel and ultimately low yield we have to face with. Quite usual and favorable weather is going on in central Punjab to north. South Punjab is facing relatively high temperature at the earing and milky stage of wheat crop. If the temperature of south Punjab does not exceed 35 degree centigrade up till mid of March, a good crop will also be harvested in this area. Most parts of rain fed Punjab and KPK are at present in a severe want of a gentle rainfall. Nevertheless, there is still enough time period for good crop in these areas, provided special series of pray is reflected on mass media level.
