The street starts from Abbasseyya Square. After Gaish Square, Abbasseyya Street bends right towards Zaher Square. The marble carving workshops were in that section before Al Zaher. Al Qubba Fedaweyya Park was my playground in 1960s. My late father and I prayed in that Mosque. I used to catch dragon flies, lizards and sometimes frogs. It was tough times in tough neigborhood. We used to have Fava beans and Falafel from Hanna in Maher street. I used to visit Baroody Library every day. Al Sayyeda Nafeesa was my primary school. Thanks for the video. This video brings back memories; good and not so good. I would be lost if I return my youth area as it must be so different now.
If possible please inquire about a small corner where a Jewish slaughter house and temple were located. I heard that reference several times as it was between Abbasseyya and Zaher. I remember that was not so clean. I am certain that something else was built over that corner near the Tram way line towards Faggalah district. What happened the grounds of the Police Academy? Incidentally, Abbasseyya was never considered part of Waily area. The police station was named in error. Furthermore, Ahmad Maher Pasha Burial Ground and Park was also before Dar-El Shiffaa Hospital.
