عکس‌های آلبوم‌های تاریخی کاخ گلستان که قدمتشان به ۱۷۴ سال پیش می‌رسد، در هفتم خردادماه ۱۲۲۹شمسی به روایت محمدحسن سمسار در پی پیشکش ملک قاسم‌میرزا، بیست‌وچهارمین پسر فتحعلی‌شاه قاجار به ناصرالدین‌شاه قاجار ۱۹ساله اهدا می‌شود. در این روز بخشی از خلوت‌خانه شاه به یکی از مهم‌ترین گنجینه‌های تاریخ عکس جهان اختصاص پیدا می‌کند.
به گفته خانم ابراهیم‌زاده: «این عکس‌ها آن‌قدر نفیس بودند که در زمان پهلوی دوم بدری آتابای، مدیر کتابخانه سلطنتی کاخ گلستان، پیشنهاد کرد آنها در مجموعه‌ای به همین نام نگهداری شوند.»
عکس‌های آلبوم‌خانه فقط ثبت دوران شاهان قاجاری و مراسم درباری آنان نیست بلکه گستره وسیعی از شهرها و استان‌ها، ساختمان‌ها و مراسم سنتی و مردمی در سراسر ایران در بیش از یک و نیم قرن پیش را به تصویر کشیده‌اند.

Photos of the king's wife and the king of India, Amin al-Dawlah Park, Kamraniyeh Mansion, Ferdows Garden, Imamzadeh Saleh, Tajrish Alleys, Imamzadeh Qasim, Malek Al-Tajjar Garden, Farmanfarma Mansion, Ottoman Embassy, Shams Al-Amara Perspective and Homayun and Shemiranat Gardens.
The photos from the historical albums of Golestan Palace, which date back 174 years, were presented to 19-year-old Naseruddin Shah Qajar on the 7th of June 1229, according to the narration of Mohammad Hassan Samsar, following the offering of Malik Qasim Mirza, the 24th son of Fath Ali Shah Qajar. On this day, a part of the king's private house is dedicated to one of the most important treasures in the history of world photography.
According to Ms. Ebrahimzadeh: "These photos were so exquisite that during the reign of Pahlavi II, Badri Atabai, the director of the royal library of Golestan Palace, suggested that they be kept in a collection with the same name."
Albumkhane's photos are not only records of the era of Qajar kings and their court ceremonies, but also depict a wide range of cities and provinces, buildings and traditional and popular ceremonies throughout Iran in more than a century and a half ago.
