Chatrapati is a laural given only to the head member of the Maratha royal family-the KING or LEADER of the Maratha Empire. When a person is called Chatrapati he is binded to certain rules and are not allowed to break them in ANY case. Three most important rules are, 1. You should not bow before anybody 2. You should not commit any crime related to LADIES. 3. Your job is to only provide service to people, be avaible to them all the time and protect your land, assets and people. And even today the same family is ruling the Maratha empire. The current king of Maratha Empire is Chatrapati Udyan Prathabsinh Raje Bhosale. He is the 13th generation of Chh. Shiwaji Raje Bhosale. But believe me, he don't even have one single quality of Shawaji Maharaj.

And that's when the native Gujaratis had come to Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj for Help and protect then from Mughals. And you should also not forget that Whole of INDIA was ruled by the Marathas, including Gujarat. If only Britishers had not invaded INDIA, then even today whole of INDIA would have been ruled by the Maratha Empire. And there would be much more development than today, and INDIA would have been a Hindu Rashtra. Because Maratha Empire was 100 percent Hindu and they did not tolerated any kind of Hate towards Hinduism. Also there wouldn't have been Muslims in INDIA because i admit that there were many muslims in Maratha Empire but now the way Islam is increasing in INDIA rapidly, i am sure the Maratha Empire would have taken strict actions against them.
