I had read this book when it first came out and I remember stopping and researching throughout the process of reading and I was once again forced to acknowledge her brilliance of bringing together fiction and history. I found the experience enriching. Also, I remember remember reading God of Small Things a few years back and then I was able to connect the themes of castism and patriarchy, which have become synonymous with our family values and actual way of life to my own observations and experiences. The book seemed to have come from the personal domain. The Ministry of Utmost Happiness seems to widen the scope of story telling, as it's no longer telling the story of a family, but rather of a nation.

Arundhati roy is REALY A third rate author, who is liked by Indians ONLY because she was recognised y the whites they do that once in a way to have a sample of the 3rd world to show that they too are SECULAR & TOLERANT
I read books, unfortunately know only Urdu (read/wright/ speak) English can read and speak (weak). I suggest you to emphasize her to publish Urdu translate book. many people will buy & read.

Nice book. I used to be in love with Arundati Roy, when in teenage, and hated Modi in those days from the reading of her non-fiction books. Still, there is appreciation, while being a big fan of Modi govt. We are living in great times.

she is a frustrated lady and there could be several reasons of her frustration, which i do not know, being a doctor and psychologist i can say that her get-up, her speech . her expressions and her writings are full of controversial matching and extra-ordinary kind of emotional expressions, which is coming out just like the person who is full of unfulfilled suppressive desires and incompleteness, this may be a cause of her background of writings.
