I own a manual Petrol Fortuner. 28000 km driven, on highways at 80kmph I get average around 12 kmpl. Trick is to keep the engine from lugging and the topmost gear. See old 2.7 Forty videos from Thailand. It's a small truck, meant to be driven as such. Drive at 60-70 kmph and you'll see at around 13-14 kmpl. Iski engine choti bus/truck wali hain jo South africa, South East Asia jaise countries mein lower income log chalate hain. Waha pe gas sasta hain, aur jhamela kam. 2.7 litre from Toyota is the most reliable engine out there. On city, I get around 9-10 kmpl. Again trick is to keep at top gear without lagging, and the lightest of foot on city.

Petrol is underpowered, I have tested it many times before booking Diesel. I was sure to take petrol earlier due to age restriction while listening to reviews on youtube, but any above-average driver, not even in good category, if drives petrol, will feel laggy. Even Diesel pickup is not that great purely because of its bulkiness if I compare it to my other cars but it's far better than petrol. Only noob drivers who are driving costly cars for the first time say pickup is good, you hear those reviews on internet sometimes. Don't listen to them, Fortuner is built for Diesel fuel. Even company sales person agreed during test drives and not recommend petrol, as it was not reacting quickly on acceleration press while overtaking. Try on your own at showrooms for test drives, you will get to know the difference.

i have same model, 2024 petrol automatic. it feels slow as compared to diesel but the point comes on age validity. I live in gurgaon and recently in December 2023 BS4 diesel cars were banned. i have a creta 2019 model and it was banned even though it has validity till 2029, but still due to pollution diesel gets banned first. It impacted my car's resale value aswell, whereas 5 years are still left for it. Same risk cannot be taken for a 50 lac car like fortuner. imagine after 3 years you are told that don't bring your diesel car in delhi gurgaon, how much it will affect you. Keeping all these points in my mind i opted for petrol, it is 10 lacs cheaper, 5 extra years and assurance that it won't be banned before 15 years. Talking about power it is not that slow, power mode use kro you'll like how it is driven.
