Shankardas Kesrilal Shailendra popularly known as Shailendra was born on August 30, 1923 in Rawalpindi, British India (now part of Pakistan). Later he moved along with his family to Mathura in his childhood. Upon reaching Mathura he lost his mother Parvati Devi. Little Shailendra was shocked by the incidence that he stopped believing in God.

शैलेन्द्र, एक महान मानवतावादी, समतावादी, प्रगतिवादी, जनवादी, प्रेरणादायी, संवेदनशील, क्रांतिकारी कवी, फिल्म जगत के सबसे बड़े असाधारण प्रतिभाशाली गीतकार, साहित्यकार, शब्दों के जादूगर, फिल्म निर्माता और कलाकार, समाज के दुःख दर्द के प्रति जागरूक, एक सच्चे इंसान। ऐसी महान शख्सियत को सलाम!!!

शंकरदास केसरीलाल "शैलेन्द्र" छोटे से घर में गरीब का बेटा वो भी था माँ के नसीब का बेटा रन्ज-ओ-ग़म बचपन के साथी आँधियों में जली जीवन बाती भूख ने था बड़े प्यार से पाला....ऐसे महान शख्शियत को मेरा कोटि कोटि नमन ।

बेहतरीन साक्षात्कार। कविराज शैलेंद्र के बेटे के द्वारा दिया गया साक्षात्कार दर्शाता है कि शैलेंद्र जी एक महान गीतकार ही नहीं थे बल्कि एक बहादुर और निडर होकर जिंदगी की मुश्किलों का सामना करने वाले इंसान थे जो कि उन्होंने तीसरी कसम का अंत ना बदल कर दिखा दिया था। ऐसा महान गीतकार को हमारा दिल से सलाम।

The late Shailendra should have been confirmed the Bharat Ratna in the early sixties..his 800 + Songs we're all super hit..I still hear them..thou I am a Christian..his Bhojpuri Language movie Teesri Kasam was picturiezed in actual location that's the reason the movie went over budget also 5 years in the making..that took the toal & Disturber's played truant in realising it because they thought it won't run in the first place as it was Bhojpuri language..but in Bihar & Uttar Pradesh it almost ran for 12 weeks .Got a National Award for the best film of 1967=Sad to say Shailendra died on 14th Dec 1966. This Day was Raj Kapoor Birthday too..what a coincidence..without the lyricist Raj Kapoor was nobody.

Late shailendra lend a new life to Hindi film lyrics.Though Iam a South Indian who are rarely interested in Hindi language,some how I had a passination for Old Hindi Lyrics and I'm proud to say that I have a collecof all 100 films of SJ with Shailendra and Hasrat jaipuri as lyricists which is a unique record. God knows how many more gems would have been created if God had not taken away shailendraji all of a sudden to entertain the God with his lyrics

If the email of Dinesh I get a lot of information for Shailender the poet of eternity will be given to him . His father was more than our family members we lived with him since his advent in barsat and we are still living with him we are karkhandar of delhi and Ram lal brother in law of your father was also a karkhandhar we lived on with other kakhandars of delhi and agra now gone are the days

Great interview with lotta affection, respect and longing. But one request Dineshji....you keep repeating that Shankar is illiterate when referencing the story about Rangoli song which is patently untrue. Shankarji has studied until 10th in Hyderabad and very obviously could read and wrote well. I worship Shailendra but pls don’t repeat inaccuracies about Shankar ji

While narrating the story about the the Rangoli song Chotisi Yeh Duniya, Dineshji has said that music director Shankar could not read ... implying that he was illiterate. As per the information on internet it looks like he was educated up to the 10th standard. If true I am puzzled why he could not read. Will somebody preferably Dineshji explain?
